I don't see how one could come to any other conclusion when reading this piece from Mediaite about a confrontation between NRO's Rich Lowrey and the liberal pundit. The imbroglio erupted when Colmes said that Iowans would get off the Santorum bandwagon once they discovered some of the "crazy things" he's said and done. The segment was pegged to Santorum's polling surge in Iowa, which Colmes argued wouldn't last "once they get a load of some of the crazy things he's said and done, like taking his two-hour-old baby who died after childbirth and played with it

Point taken. Just discussing my opinion.
Ugly or not, it’s going to come up no matter who gets fired.
Sure. I'm flattered.
Just sent my letter. Hope other FReepers will take a few minutes from their busy day to do likewise, in honor of all parents who have ever grieved the loss of a child.
Good luck to you. I hope you never have to face options like that.
You cannot be a good liberal unless you are a vicious monster.
Thanks for the Fox link. I also sent them an angry letter. Remind them that we will NOT be buying from their sponsors.
This was one of the worst comments on the public airwaves I’ve ever heard. This troll needs to LOSE his job / appearances on that channel. He needs SHUNNING big time.
You can call me a nappy headed ho all day long, but don’t you DARE mock how I grieve my dead child!!!!!!!!
In the Christian faith we believe that an apology, accompanied by contrition, should be met with forgiveness. That said, nothing compels us to, or even suggests we meet it with forgetfulness.
Eileanright
Wow, that looks exactly like the troll Colmes - but more handsome.
For what it’s worth to you, we took the body of our 21-year-old cat home from the vet after euthanasia, washed him and combed his fur, and laid him out in our house overnight. The next morning, rigor mortis had not yet set in, and we petted him some more, wrapped him in a cloth and placed him in a box, and drove him personally to the crematorium. We will scatter his ashes on the family plot. He was a member of the family. So was that precious little child who died in their arms.
To libs, the end (state control) always justifies the means. If they believe that mocking the circumstances surrounding the death of a republican candidate's baby might somehow hurt that candidate (and, therefore, enhance their liberal agenda) then any issues of compassion or empathy are completely overridden by their lust for power.
You’re quick-it does look like him. :)
In the Jewish faith, the body is not left alone for any time until burial. There is a special service called Chevra Kadisha made up of volunteers who wash the body and dresshim in his shroud and take turns 24/7 sitting with him and saying prayers.
Humans since cavemen have always had rituals to help us deal with the depth of grief when we lose a loved one. Cultures, families, people do it differently. It all deserves RESPECT and REVERENCE.
One day Alan Colmes will die. He ought to think about it, because right now some very good people all over the country are probably against their better natures envisioning ways to “play” with his body.
He didn't. His wife, a nurse, wrote about it in a book. The Santorums are sturdy defenders of life. They have every right to give their testimony of how they valued that child, and resisted letting some institution carry away the corpse to be tossed in an incinerator. No doubt they wanted to examine the child, see who he resembled, and give his body a testament of love and caring with their eyes, arms and hands. If you think the child's soul and the angels were not watching, think again.
I hope that Alan’s loose lips will send the conservative vote in Iowa way over the top for Rick Santorum.
Words have consequences, as the leftists are about to learn this evening.
I’m glad for you and your cat but the question was, do hospitals even allow that now?
How long ago was this? No doubt in years gone past, this was "normal". The gist of my question was, do hospitals and governments even allow this now?
Ann Coulter on radio now talking about this. Comparing it to Hillary crying about how important this all is, and then winning the NH primary. Sheesh. But she does admit that Santorum did not bring this up.
What is wrong with Coulter lately? Menopause?
We mourned and funeralized our cat this way last week.
As for humans, they do have ways to release the body to the family. I have friends who have had funerals for stillborn children over the past several years.
It's a much loved and anticipated family member, not a hunk of biowaste.
Thanks for your reply. Funerals are usually run by state licensed funeral homes. Unless I'm very wrong, releasing the body to "the family" usually means the family's choice of funeral homes but I could be wrong which is why I asked the question.

Just a hint: Always use preview when using HTML, always.
I can’t believe she wrote about this without his knowledge and approval.
When you put intimate and personal details of your life into the public domain then you give up the right to be offend when people discuss it in public.
What I would criticize Colmes for is characterize what they did as “playing with” their dead baby. That was scummy and reprehensible.
I completely understand why some people would consider this episode creepy and I would not criticize anyone for saying so.
Santorum DIDN'T discuss this now. Colmes was having a discussion with Rick Lowrey and Colmes brought it up!
I think you are right. There are complex regulations in every state. I don't know if every state allows a laying out or viewing within a home; but it would seem that PA did when the Santorum child died; and they probably were very well aware of, and compliant with, any further regulations for burying the child, since Santorum is an attorney.
"My wife and I have watched Fox News for many years; mostly because it is the only television news outlet that tries to be 'fair and balanced'. While I take that description with a grain of salt, what with your ever expanding parade of liberal-to-socialist commentators and pundits, I have to say Mr. Alan Colmes made even the most rabid socialist seem tame by comparison.
"His comments regarding the Santorum family and the death of their newborn child in 1996 was not only crude, but heartless, inhumane, despicable and not worthy consumption. To be honest, I've never liked the smarmy little man, but this simply puts to life the suspicions I have had about him; regardless of what others such as Sean Hannity and Bill O'Reilly try to hype as his "kind" personality. The man is evil.
"I'm going to be cutting back on my Fox News exposure. I'm not happy with various other programs such as Special Report, Sheperd Smith, O'Reilly and Hannity, but this has gone beyond the pale. Not only that, but I'm going to take second looks at sponsors who continue to advertise on Fox News should your station, and it's brain-dead management, continue to employ this worthless wretch of human garbage.
"Your call. Either have a human gene in your bodies or go with the monsters among us.
"With all the respect that's due,
"bcsco"
Thanks for the link. I sent a short but to the point e-mail that I will not watch FOX as long as that idiot is on the payroll.
If it’s in the public domain it will be discussed and if you are a Republican it will be brought up at a time so as to cause the maximum damage.
This is simply a fact of political life in 2012.
After watching and listening to this maggot lie and distort facts, talk over everyone who challenges him on factual matters, and attack every aspect of traditional America, there is absolutely nothing horrifying or despicable Colmes could say that would come as a surprise to me.
That illustrates exactly what the Santorums have been trying to work against: the culture of death. Time was when every human being was familiar with death and considered it a natural part of life, whether from seeing their own farm animals or witnessing family members who gave birth, were baptized, laid ill, died and were laid out in the home.
Our forbearers lived a culture of Life. With death all around them, they valued life and knew that murdering or aborting was, is, and always will be wrong.
Nicely done. However, I believe FOX will respond to quantity over quality. Hopefully, there will be plenty of both.
I brought my children into see their sister right after she was declared brain-dead.
We sat with her all night. Her sister painted her nails.
We talked to her and read her a book.
Many years later they are still very glad they had this one night to say goodbye.
I wouldn’t wish this on anyone.
Hey! You know what is really creepy?
When a guy who believes that infant survivors of abortion should be denied medical treatment manages to get elected to the presidency.
Now THAT is creepy!
I don't think he did. His wife included it in a book she wrote a while back. They wanted to give the baby a funeral in their home rather than have it go to the hospital morgue.
Great letter!
FReepers, let’s keep up this bombardment!!
The more the merrier. I’d like to see the flood gates open...
How one deals with death has nothing to do with one’s attitude towards abortion.
Your superior attitude towards people who deal with it differently than you does the cause more harm than good.
I was about 5 or 6 so it would have been 1955-56. My grandpa was in a casket and was delivered by a funeral home. I am not sure if he was embalmed or not. I think the 'wake' was common then. The term 'wake' I believe was because before we embalmed people, some would wake up! So it was common with my family for someone to sit with the dead until they were buried.
The gist of my question was, do hospitals and governments even allow this now?
I have no idea but would be interesting to find out the answer.
More families are bringing funerals home
From the article:
Most states legally require only a certified death certificate, a permit giving permission to transport the body for disposition, and that the body be buried, cremated or donated to medical science, Slocum says. Theres no law that says you have to have a viewing. No law that says you have to have an embalming.
It’s not my attitude that is superior. My posts follow the Word of God, which is superior to human rationales.
I’m very sorry to hear of the loss of your cat.
Alan Colmes is a grotesquely deranged person. He was one of those insisting that Trig Palin is something other than the perfectly ordinary child of Sarah and Todd. When a person can project such bizarre fantasies onto others, you have to wonder what he’s done in his own life ...
Alan Colmes' comments on how the Santorums viewed the birth and physical death of their son, Gabriel, may be repulsive, but they are revealing of a deeper void in understanding and indicate the shallow body of thought from which they came.
The Santorums loved the child they knew was being formed inside her body, even before they saw it, and to allow their children, who also looked for its arrival, to see the previously "unseen" gave each of those children the kind of reverence for life they will never forget.
Perhaps that child, who was conceived in love, whose body was created by the great Giver of life, and whose soul returned to its Creator after only a short time, may have served the divine purpose for which it was created in just those few short hours. Even now, its life takes on new meaning, as it becomes part of the current political dialogue.
Psalm 139:
"Verse 13: You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit me together in my mother's womb.
14 Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex! Your workmanship is marvelous--and how well I know it.
15 You watched me as I was being formed in utter seclusion, as I was woven together in the dark of the womb.
16 You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was recorded in your book. Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed.
17 How precious are your thoughts about me,[b] O God! They are innumerable!
18 I can't even count them;
they outnumber the grains of sand! And when I wake up in the morning, you are still with me!
. . . .
23 Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my thoughts.
24 Point out anything in me that offends you, and lead me along the path of everlasting." - NLT
So-called "progressive" thought is not as "progressive" as those who are its advocates believe. Views which would limit the natural loving actions of individuals in a family toward loving, embracing and saying goodbye to a new member in the way which is most desirable to that family are not "progressive" at all.
Gabriel was a loved soul, both by his Creator and by his earth family. His life and death now have a meaning that many who have lived to be 90 may not have achieved.
Defend your view that it is unbiblical to consider bringing a dead baby home to show the other kids creepy.
Mind you I don’t criticize them for doing it. But I wouldn’t lecture people who find it creepy either.
kozanne here came close to saying what I was gonna!
Cause Santorum is an actual member of the human race unlike Colmes who is a reptile that never fully evolved.
“Colmes who is a reptile that never fully evolved”
Don’t insult reptiles!
