Gingrich to target Romney in N.H. ad

Des Moines, Iowa (CNN) – Newt Gingrich will hit GOP presidential rival Mitt Romney as a "timid Massachusetts moderate" in a New Hampshire newspaper ad on Wednesday.

The full-page ad, set to run in the influential Union Leader, comes less than one week before the state's first-in-the-nation primary on Jan. 10.

The Gingrich campaign intends to release television ads in the same vein this week. On Tuesday, Gingrich also said he will run ads in the early primary voting states of South Carolina and Florida, which hold their contests later this month.

Calling himself a "bold Ronald Reagan conservative," Gingrich compared his campaign with Romney's on a number of issues in the newspaper ad. Among other claims, Gingrich argued that Romney raised taxes and expanded abortion services as governor.

Meanwhile, Gingrich highlighted his own 98.6% pro-life rating from the National Right to Life Committee and his efforts fighting tax hikes in the House of Representatives.

The ad also reminds readers that the Union Leader's editorial board endorsed Gingrich, a nod that came in late November when Gingrich had surged to the top of several polls.

Mittens is going to be given a taste of his own medicine. Newt was the wrong man to slime in IA. He is about to find that out.

Tonight Newt congratulated Rick Santorum. Romney is headed down.

Votes for Gingrich are just votes for Romney now, since they take away from his conservative alternative.

This ad would be better in SC. I just was wondering if Newt has this out as a first salvo to ding Mittens in his “home” state and further slams are coming for SC. I hope Newt goes whole hog on him.

And when Freddie Newt goes negative on Romulus, Santorum will benefit. Go negative Newt. Go balistic!

I hope Newt rips Mitt a new one. I might even predict Mitt loses MA voters. They hate RomneyCare there, especially since it was implemented with a vote.

It won’t just be viewed by NH voters, not in the information age. SC and Fla. voters will see it too as will every other voter in the country all the way until super Tuesday. We all know Mitt will win in NH.

Newt claimed that Santorum ran a positive campaign. IIRC Santorum attacked Newt at the last debate, pointing out that his own party forced him out of his speakership.

I think he was talking about the big picture. President Santorum dissed Newt very little and really didn't hit “below the belt”. Newt was knocked off guard and will be going for Paul and Romney's jugular. I am just glad that President Santorum will be out of the mess that is Romney, Paul and Newt.

I just had a thought about that add. The negatives that Newt is pointing out about Mitt might actually be positives for Mitt in a liberal state like New Hampshire.

Well long ago the operative term in NH referring to Massachusetts liberals was “Massholes”

Of course, over the past 3 decades many have moved from MA to southern NH so I don’t know how well nowadays it may or may not work to diss a “timid Massachusetts moderate” — but it may still be a good theme in a Republican primary in NH.

Oh, that’ll work! NOT.

Perhaps, you might consider that Newt doesn’t expect to win in NH- where Mitt has already been declared the winner by a landslide. Therefore, it’s a freebie for Newt- he gets to take all the body punches he wants...

See how Romney feels as he limps to SC. Payback’s cool.

Yeppers. Santorum will take the high ground while Freddie Newt and Romulus fight it out. And Satorums numbers will rise. Go Rick!
