Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney beat former Sen. Rick Santorum by a margin of just 8 votes in the Iowa GOP caucuses, the chairman of the Iowa Republican Party announced early Wednesday.

Calm down and wait for what Newt has in store for him, be patient it is
going to be fun to watch Mittens get his due!!!!! Nobody knows the game
better than Newt, it is going to be ugly and I can’t wait!!!!!
You’re wrong! If we don’t like the outcome, it must be corrupt. Can’t be that the Romney vote tally is close to the 2008 numbers, that he ran a smart campaign (something we shouldn’t pay attention to), and that a caucus process if fairly decentralized and difficult to fix. It’s corrupt! Corrupt!
Freepers can like Mitt or not (I’ve been trying to stomach him till the McCain endorsement raised my level of bile again) - but I do wish people would be a bit more sane.
CNN talked to Edith Pfeffer, the chairwoman of the Clinton County Republican Party.
Pfeffer said she went to her caucus on Tuesday night and thought the election ran smoothly. She said her daughter asked her around 10 p.m. why one Clinton precinct had not reported its results.
Pfeffer said she knew they had been called in by the precinct chair at 7:48 p.m.
At 11:30, Pfeffer said she got a call from the Romney campaign asking what the figures were for that missing precinct.
about 12:30 p.m., she heard someone pounding on her windows and her front door and ringing her door bell. Startled, she saw her friend Caroline Tallett, another local GOP activist, outside in her yard. “I thought, ‘What in the world is going on?’” Pfeffer said.
Tallett said she was at home watching CNN waiting for the results when she was contacted by a state party official, who said they needed the missing results as soon as possible.
Pfeffer said she’s still not sure exactly why the votes were not recorded, but believes it was “some type of computer glitch.” She insisted the precinct chair called them into the state party and filled out all the appropriate forms.
Were the votes counted at 7:30 pm and then recounted again after 2:00 am to give Romney the win?
How did Carl Rove know which counties and which precincts were not in, while everyone else was looking
for a missing truck from Iowa State University?
Story should read: Republicans disillusioned with Romney. Vote total down from 2008. Candidate can’t even get 25 percent of the total votes.
Ultimately it will come down to 2 candidates and his support is too narrow to pull it off.
Next up, South Carolina will not go for Mitt.
1. Romney will not win the nomination. His win in IA is a defeat, his support is too narrow to win as the field of candidates dwindles.
2. There are many hands to be played yet.
BUMP!
Grow up sillipuddi
And the essence of the Tea Party block. Watch as our GOP Establishment and the MSM ignores the significance of that. BUT it will not go away. It is what the U.S. is really about.
You could see this theft coming when the vote reports from those final precincts were “delayed”. Why do I envision the scumbag GOP establishment elite going into those places and throwing some weight (and money) around in order to swing the final tally for Mittens?
No matter. It’s too late. America went to bed seeing Santorum had won.
Whether Santorum won or lost by 1,000 votes, the end result would be the same: 7 delegates for Santorum and 7 for Romney. I`m not seeing the incentive for fraud over a couple hundred votes.
As the last conservative standing vs. Romney, Santorum gave him one hell of a fight that he wasn`t close to expecting. This will give Rick huge momentum in the coming primaries.
Actually Washington Times website has delegates 13 Romney, 12 Santorum... None for anyone else. I wonder what the rules are with different sites saying different things
Your election system must be the most complicated designed by man! :-)
This from NYT:
2012 (Iowa) Caucus Process
Delegate Allocation: None of Iowa’s 28 delegates will be bound to any candidate as a result of the Jan. 3 precinct caucuses. As in 2008, the state’s delegates will be elected at district caucuses and at the state convention, which is scheduled for later in the year. The January caucuses will elect delegates to the county conventions currently scheduled for March.
Thus the numbers you have seen are media prognostications. Nothing is certain....
First sour grapes of the season!
Congrats;)
Looks like they also wanted to make sure Mittens exceeded is 2008 vote totals.
Edith—It wasn’t a computer glitch, it was the tooth fairy.
(Edith—they forgot to teach you in skool about how politics really works. You have just learned lesson #1—he who counts the votes makes the rules.)
Look at the spin. “”Romney barely came to Iowa, Santorum spent two years here.”
So now both the libs AND conservatives agree that Republicans rig elections/caucuses if their guy doesn’t win,,,correct?
I put the “bad” in scare quotes because often legislation is a take it or leave mix of horse dung.
Like Planned Parenthood--say a bill comes before Santorum that would subsidize the genocidal misanthropic and just plain evil institution. Rick votes against it because PP murders the unborn in their mothers’ wombs.
BUT!!! Planned Parenthood ALSO performs pap tests.
Then Romney and his “superpacs” spend millions screaming out in demented and mendacious ads of outrage THAT:
SANTORUM WANTS WOMEN TO DIE OF CERVICAL AND UTERINE CANCER!!!
wait for it.
The only problem is that Mitt bought the NH Republican Party years ago, lock, stock and barrel.
I will not vote for Mitt Romney. I can’t wait until the Republican National Committee calls looking for a donation. My husband and I just got done yelling at them this weekend.
They will call again, and we will be yelling again! Thanks for backing the conservative candidates you jackasses!
I agree. I really think this will be a brokered convention.
“If you screw it, newbie, youre screwing yourself.
Politics have been a dirty business since the business of politics began.
We support those public representatives who best represent our ideologies, and let the chips fall where they may. To give up entirely is to forfeit your freedom..”
What’s this we crap? The owner of this site doesn’t support Willard the Rat and neither will I. There isn’t one drop of difference between Willard and Obama. You want to play your shell game, go ahead, but you don’t speak for all of us. If you want Dole/McCain three, go ahead and kickoff Charlie Brown.
I do not really expect that, but it is possible.
“Whether Santorum won or lost by 1,000 votes, the end result would be the same: 7 delegates for Santorum and 7 for Romney. I`m not seeing the incentive for fraud over a couple hundred votes.”
PR.
It takes away the “Santorum beats Romney!” headline.
Call me paranoid, a cynic...whatever. Seems the power elite have this hairline tight election scheme down to a science. It seems nearly every election now comes down to this tiny difference of votes. Disgusted that Romney won this.
Our entire body politik is lost.
I had hopes for Palin, and then Bachmann became my second choice after Sarah announced she wasn't running.
After last night and Santorum's speech, I sent a email to Bachmann encouraging her to drop out and put her support behind Santorum.
Also sent my first donation to the Santorum campaign.
Santorum~ Rubio 2012~
Well your candidate Newt is such a spoiled brat. He gave the worse speech I ever heard. Blaming others for his big loss. What a chump. You either get behind Santorum or you will have Obama for another 4 years. That is your choice.
You hit the nail on the head!!!! Last night was another great Tea Party victory! Santorum won! BIG TIME!...
No one would have expected him to be within the top three. More expected in single digits.
He vied for the top AND that without the $$ that Romney sunk into IA.
The Santorum surge is the real story here. An eight vote victory for Romney is a defeat.
“Well your candidate Newt is such a spoiled brat. He gave the worse speech I ever heard. Blaming others for his big loss. What a chump. You either get behind Santorum or you will have Obama for another 4 years. That is your choice.”
... Sorry. The boring boy scout is not on my radar.
If he’s the candidate I would vote for him, but there’s no reason to “get behind him” now.
You are right rdl!
Something happened last night. As Santorum said “ GAME ON”!
I have been a fan of Senator Santorum for many years.
Although I still have the scars from his endorsement of Spector over Toomey - I am glad that he has emerged as the anti-Romney candididate.
I can support Rick and feel good about it.
Well that is fine. I would be happy to have a boring boy scout after the crazy President we have had. I guess you are another Romney fan. Yuk, but I guess that is your right to be.
Amen.
He has no chance. The far right has no chance.
He is a loser
Glad to see somebody else has figured out what the game is.
You have to hand it to the good ‘ole USA; our one party system LOOKS a lot different from the ones in Eastern Europe, Russia, China, and Cuba circa 1975, and so far has gotten by with a lot less coercion.
Of course having 8 flavors of Pravda instead of just one (although it may be more efficient to just have the one) surely helps with that.
The object of the game was/is the same - keep about 25,000 - 50,000 of the people that “really matter” at the top of the food chain.
I think it is easy to fall victim to the first in wins mentality when we have 49 MORE STATES left to vote and then the convention! Iowa and New Hampshire mean nothing. Period. Turn off your TVs, your computers and just wait awhile and/or go commit money to your candidate. I do wish Michele Bachmann or John Huntsman would quit the race as their votes would have made a difference. However, it is their right to stay in (though Unrealistic at this point). Perry is still a slight dark horse, but we’ll see. I know I hope it’s ABM (anyone but Mitt)...but my personal hope is that Newt pulls it out as he’s the most qualified to stand up against the Obama media that coming...
Start the real democratic and conservative “revolution” in USA !
And stop watching at the croocks steeling your country, your monney and lives
At my precinct we had 483 votes cast. Romney got 196 and Santorum 105. And I was part of getting the counting done.
So Romney had a lot of strength in some areas. My vote went to Perry who got 43.
Drudge Developing: Bauchman cancels trip to SC;schedules New’s Conference!!!! Please Michelle, put your support towards Rick Santorum!!!!!!!
There’s a lot of that going around.
Bump!
The "Far right" has no chance? Huh?
