Des Moines, Iowa (CNN) – Rick Perry's "re-assessing" phase will apparently last through the remainder of the week.

After his disappointing fifth place finish in the Iowa caucuses, the Texas governor has scrapped his entire campaign schedule and will return to Austin to ponder whether to forge ahead with his bid.

Santorum has a ground organization in South Carolina. His social conservatism and economic populism will go over well with Palmetto State voters.

Now if Bachmann would also drop out, we’d have a lot clearer field to work with.

If she doesn’t drop out it’s basically an admittance she’s nothing more than a Romney stalking horse. Wasn’t there a rumor she held her fire on Romney since he offered her VP? Regardless, if she can only get 5% in IA, she’ll be in Huntsman territory everywhere else, so she’s not much of a factor anyway.

“Rick ‘Flash in the Pan’ Perry is going back to Austin.”

Yep, where he promised he would serve out his liberal term. Texas Toast, anyone?

No one leaves a run “temporarily”.

His supporters have had their one shot at manufacturing a comeback after the last time he tanked and disappeared.

Not a fan of Perry, but thought he'd have the backbone to stay in it longer.

As Governor though, he's never faced a serious campaign challenge. In 2002, he had no Republican opponents and the Democrat had already been destroyed by a fellow Democrat. In 2006, Perry's only Republican competition was a secessionist who didn't crack 10%, and then he faced a clown car full of single-issue/limited candidates in the general election. In 2010, the only Tea Party challenger shot herself in the foot, Kay Bailey Hutchison couldn't run a competent gubernatorial campaign if her life depended on it, and the Democrat was a Clinton insider.

Perry’s and bachmann’s value voters will go to Santorum. I think he might have a real chance now.

When Perry comes marching home again, Hurrah, Hurrah...
When Perry comes marching home again, Hurrah, HURRAH...

How the town will cheer when Perry comes marching home...

Well, he tried, but getting over those debates just wasn't in the cards. No one can say that he wasn't given a proper chance.

Bachmann needs to do the right thing, too, for the Party (vanquish Romney and RINOS), and for the country, (defeat Obama, restory sanity).

I truly hope she does the right thing and visions of having the Oval Office to her own do not keep her head in the clouds. The Conservative side of the house cannot go on much more being split five and six ways, against a Leviathan of a Romney, the US Mass Media, the RNC, toadies and sycophants like Rove and Ingraham, and the Establishment. This fine woman has a lot of work ahead on Capitol Hill to do, or even in a Republican cabinet from 2013, no doubt about it. She is also relative young and can run for President again, they don't all make it on the first try, and rarely directly from the Lower House.

Bachmann turned me off with some of her vicious/idiotic attacks. They weren’t made to boost her, they were made to drag other candidates down. Lot of folks are not going to easily forgive her for the “6-6-6” crap. That kind of crap reeks of amateur hour. It did more damage to her than her opponents, because she was burning bridges with potential supporters with that crap.
