Will Whiskas become a trending topic? Kitty Twitty lets cats stay in touch via Twitter

Kitty Twitty is a cat toy that lets your cat 'stay in touch' via automatic posts on Twitter. Thankfully, all the cat has to do is swat at a hovering Twitter bird on a guitar string above the gadget - the switch inside posts the news, updating a Twitter account.

You'll need to be handy with a soldering iron to let your cat join the micro-blogging revolution, though - Kitty Twitty is a step-by-step DIY project on America's Make magazine.

Its maker, Make's director of product development Marc de Vinck, says that the technique could also be used for 'connected' cat bowls and cat flaps, to let cats 'fill out' a Twitter feed for lonely owners. ...

The Twitty Kitty taunts your cat with a Twitter bird overhead - when he swats at it, a switch inside the box communicates with the web, and automatically updates a Twitter page

The circuit board inside Kitty Twitty connects to the internet via Twitter to say when your cat's playing with the toy. Its maker says you could use the same idea on your cat's bowl and catflap

I know it’s silly, but I do wish there was some way I could check on my cats during the day. I hate leaving them for 10 hours at a time.

I’ve always pictured mine scheming about how to get into the kitty food, or open closet doors, or better yet open the frig and sample people food. That is, when they’re not napping.

The original version used Facebook, but the cats were very quick to "unfriend" their owners staff.

Oh yes. When I come home, every closet and cupboard in the house is standing open. It’s like poltergeists have been there. I always say, when you have cats, you always have “Things That Go Bump In the Night.”

ROFLMA. Spoken like someone who has been owned by a cat.

Don’t worry about your cats being left alone.
They have each other for company, and besides they sleep most of the day anyway.

I can’t decide whether this is the Next Big Thing, or the silliest idea I’ve ever heard.

I have used a webcam aimed at kitty favorite snoozing places, but boring doesn’t quite describe it...

OK, this looks pretty dumb, but...

I could see hooking something like this to door sensors to tweet “someone entered the front door” to let you know when the kids got home (for working parents).

Yeah.....great idea.....gave my cat a cell phone.....all he did was call phone sex places.....and he ordered a semi truck full of rubber mice.....shouldn’t have left the credit card out.....he ran away from home, but the cops caught him when he crashed the pickup into a tree chasing birds.....insurance company wouldn’t cover it because I didn’t have him listed as an occasional driver.....I told ‘em he passed driver’s ed.......not really good at parallel parking, though.....kept getting distracted looking at himself in the rear view mirror.

I’ve always pictured mine scheming about how to get into the kitty food, or open closet doors

Mine used to do just that. He'd open the cabinet door, gently pull out the pack of food from the box without disturbing anything else, and rip open the pack.

With gadgets like this, is it any wonder why we have the likes of Barry in office? People are more concerned with their cats than the future of their children. Sure, in this economy, everyone needs one of these instead of buying food or paying the rent.

I’m convinced that if cats had thumbs we would be in big trouble!

That is a cute idea but my boy would probably rip the bird off the first day.He is very intent on hunting and killing his toys.So far long strings seem to fair about the best,Those and boxes seem to be indestructible.

Or to have your mother-in-law swat it every morning to let you know she woke up alive.
