Breaking: Obama also set to make recess appointments to the NLRB
WaPo ^ | 1/4/12 | Greg Sargent

It isn’t just Richard Cordray. Obama is also set to use recess appointments to install his picks to the National Labor Relations Board, according to White House officials and others familiar with ongoing discussions.

The move, which is arguably as impotant as the Cordray appointment, will ratchet up opposition from Republicans and make this an even bigger fight, since they have been attacking the NLRB regularly for its moves to streamline union elections and inform workers of their rights.

Obama is set to appoint Sharon Block, Terence Flynn, and Richard Griffin to the board — something unions have made a big priority for them in the new year. Senate Republicans have opposed the recess appointments to the NLRB on constitutional grounds, but unions charge that Republicans are only interested in rendering the agency inoperative.

Just who does Bari think he is?

1 For this Melchisedec, king of Salem, priest of the most high God, who met Abraham returning from the slaughter of the kings, and blessed him; 2 To whom also Abraham gave a tenth part of all; first being by interpretation King of righteousness, and after that also King of Salem, which is, King of peace; 3 Without father, without mother, without descent, having neither beginning of days, nor end of life; but made like unto the Son of God...

‘Obama today is jab-pushing Uncle Sam, and saying “whatchoo gon do bout it”? like the Street Punk from Chicago that he is.

He’s pushing, because he knows something. I believe he knows Congress will do anything to avoid racial experiences this clown is prepared to summon the minute he doesn’t get his way. This will be his direction until November.’

Very, VERY well said. Captures the exact essence of what this is all about.

Don’t pay them and do not accept any actions they take.

Do I expect anything out of Boehner or McConell?——No

The Republicans are a joke.

The president acted just a day after the Senate held a session, breaking with at least three different precedents that said the Senate must be in recess for at least three days for a recess appointment. Mr. Obama himself was part of two of those precedents, both during his own time in the Senate and again in 2010 when one of his administration’s top constitutional lawyers made the three-day argument to the Supreme Court.

The Senate IS in session and they HAVE blocked the nominations. OBAMA put it on himself to determine the Senate was in RECESS and thus attempt at making a RECESS appointment.

Are you still hungover from the Romney win last night or are you this slow?

So Republicans " have been attacking the NLRB regularly for its moves to streamline union elections and inform workers of their rights".?

The WaPo just slips that in there like no one should notice.

Are they characterizing card-check, where marking your ballot for or against unionization is done with the union goons watching, as "streamlining"?

Are they calling quick-snap elections, where management has just a few days to counter the propaganda of the unions, "streamlining"?

Are they calling one-sided unionization "rights" posters that employers must display or face stiff fines "informing workers of their rights"?

The unions own that "reporter".

Reid could stop this but he’s giving tacit approval even though it crowds in on his own power.

Your list is about the only options available, if the GOP will have the cajones to do it.

This falls on McConnell, since only the Senate has confirmation powers. Boehner must be at McConnell's side to show Republican unity on this matter.

A statement from Roberts might be nice, too.

Good for you!!

Everyone should call McConnell's office!!

McConnell's office has released this...

Louisville, KY – U.S. Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell issued the following statement today regarding the President's unprecedented recess appointment of Richard Cordray as director of the new CFPB while the Senate is not in recess: Although the Senate is not in recess, President Obama, in an unprecedented move, has arrogantly circumvented the American people by 'recess' appointing Richard Cordray as director of the new CFPB [Consumer Financial Protection Bureau]. This recess appointment represents a sharp departure from a long-standing precedent that has limited the President to recess appointments only when the Senate is in a recess of 10 days or longer.

Sounds like his staff is getting a barrage of calls...they're saying it's only been four hours...and to stay tuned for more (blah, blah) statements from McConnell's office.

Oh, we'll stay tuned:)

I thought the pubbies were going to keep a skeleton crew in Washington and in session to prevent this. Most of the Senators live there anyway.

Hussein cannot get along with the DEMOCRAT CONTROLLED SENATE!

I think he is overreaching...of course he is pissing on the Constitution, but that is old hat (see: Hussein's DEATHCARE Law).

Let's hope the Republicans fight this appropriately.

“They have apparently refused to allow the Senate to go into formal recess precisely to block these sorts of appointments. “

And this is exactly what the dems did to Bush when they took over Congress. But Bush didn’t put up any recess appts then.

It’s not like the Constitution and the Rule of Law apply to Elected DC Democrats, anymore.

And the dems feel assured that Romney's "win" last night will place him on the Republican ticket, and that's just what they wanted. No need to stop doin' what they've been doin', they think they have at least four more years.

Obama could go live TV kill a being with a knife and eat its heart out and scream ah akbar and the media would say hey Obama good job and not one damned person in DC would say he needs removed in handcuffs.

A quote from your Politico link:

“The level of obstruction he’s faced since he’s been in office — he’s been extraordinarily patient, far more than we would have wanted” since some vacancies, like those on the National Labor Relations Board, have impeded the function of government."

That's absurd, since the NLRB was very active in trying to thwart Boeing from opening their SC plant. Hard to argue their being stopped from creating an environment for job growth when they're specifically doing the opposite....because they're not union jobs.
