Boeing to close Wichita plant with 2,160 jobs

The Boeing Co., for decades the brand that helped support Wichita's claim as the aviation capital of the world, announced Wednesday it will shut down facilities in the city by the end of 2013 and send work to plants in three other states as it deals with defense spending cutbacks.

The closure will cost 2,160 workers their jobs and end the firm's presence in an area where it has been a major employer for generations.

The decision was not a surprise because Boeing said in November it was looking at closing the Wichita plant. But it still drew an angry response from Kansas lawmakers who helped Boeing land a lucrative Air Force refueling tanker project in February and had expected thousands of jobs to come to Wichita with it. Instead, the tanker work will go to Boeing's facilities near Seattle.

I wonder if this is somehow related to the NRLB backing off the S.Carolina thing???

Union telling Boeing to move the jobs to Washington state and we will get the Obama thug agency to back off ?

Isn’t this a business making a business decision?? I’ll bet executives would rather live in Seattle than in Kansas.

That was the first thing that popped in my head when I heard in on the radio this morning. Quite a coincidence.

Mark Bass, vice president of maintenance, modifications and upgrades for the Boeing unit that operates the Wichita plant, said the realignment would move 300-400 jobs to San Antonio, Texas.

Conversly, their union representation is socialist and that requires increased spending on programs for the people that don’t want to work, and decreased spending on the military.

The fallout is less military related jobs. Let Kansas blues take that to the ballot boxes. They need to grow up and realize the cause and effect of their unions.

BTW, on the local news in San Antonio, the modification and support jobs and future aircraft maintenance going to San Antonio will include Air Force One.

Obamanomics

Yep. His defense cuts are killing our economy plus our military will be in the same shape as Carter left Reagan.....not ready!

We won't be ready when Iran is done pounding his chest and decides we are weak enough for him to take action!

You took the words right out of my brain. With the NRLB Obama has more clout than the local politicians who helped get the tanker contract.

Do not take this as an endorsement of Obama's policies but also do not forget that the military does not exist to create jobs.
