Joe K III to run for Barney Frank’s seat
Boston Herald ^ | 1/5/12 | Dave Wedge

Joseph P. Kennedy III, the son of former U.S. Rep. Joseph Kennedy, is launching an exploratory committee in preparation for a likely run for the seat recently vacated by U.S. Rep. Barney Frank, sources confirmed this morning.

Kennedy, a 30-year-old prosecutor who is the grandson of late Attorney General Robert F. Kennedy, is slated to step down from his post in the Middlesex District Attorney’s office and will open up an exploratory committee, which will allow him to begin raising money to run for the seat. His last day as a prosecutor will be Jan. 20, said a spokesperson for the DA’s office.

Sources said Kennedy has been conducting polls in the newly-drawn district, which stretches from Newton and Brookline to Lakevile and Freetown. The district was recently re-drawn as part of the state’s redistricting and was stripped of the South Coast Democratic strongholds of New Bedford and Fall River. The new district, which now includes more conservative towns such as Bellingham, Franklin and North Attleboro, was cited by Frank as a key reason for his decision not to seek re-election.

Kennedy could not be reached immediately for comment.

Former Massachusetts Democratic Party Chair Phil Johnston, a longtime Kennedy family adviser and ally, hailed the newest Kennedy political hopeful’s decision.

“I think he’ll be a terrific congressman,” Johnston said. “He’s a very bright, very committed person. He has an incredible commitment to the values of his family.”

Kennedy’s move sets up a battle with Boston City Councilor Michael Ross, a Newton native who has already set up an exploratory committee and begun raising money. Republican Sean Bielat, who challenged Frank in 2010, is also reportedly considering another run.

It's like keeping track of royalty. You get one number if you follow the English line but another number on the Scotch... er, Scottish line.

How could the state which started the American revolution sink to having a member of what P.J O’Rourke called “The Bog Trotter’s Circus” be able to run as a viable alternative to the Queen of Queer, Bwarny Fwank?

“I think he’ll be a terrific congressman,” Johnston said. “He’s a very bright, very committed person. He has an incredible commitment to the values of his family.”

And, when you think of the Kennedys, "Family Values" are the first things that spring to mind (smirk)...

exactly.

One more comment from the Herald article (quoting, not by me but I agree):
“Doesn’t Joe K III have to get qualified first by causing paralyzing injuries in a car wreck, bedding down a teen babysitter, assaulting a woman in a bar and walking, killing a teen woman with a golf club, driving off a narrow bridge.......you get the picture.
If the K’s didn’t have all this bad luck following them around they wouldn’t have any luck at all.”

2)—Michael Kennedy (Joe II’s bro, now dead)
3)—William Kennedy Smith (Au Bar)
4)—Michael Skakel (Martha Moxley)
5)—Ted The Swimmer

It sounds like the name of a Mafia clan but Boston talk host Howie Carr refers to them as The Kennedy Crime Family.

After reading that google link - I have no idea how it is supposed to work when the father (Sr) dies and the son becomes (blank) or when a brother takes over from a deceased older brother.

Inheriting a famous name - sorta kinda like writing a will; ‘per stirpes’ vs ‘per capita’.

It’s a mystery. Sorry for the thread interruption;)

I predict that this Lord Fauntelroy will back out once he sees the polls. That’s what is arrogant daddy did in 1998, 2002, 2006 for the governor’s race.

His old man did not run for Gov. because he would be forced to show his tax records. Those records would show that they split Citizens Energy into a FOR Profit & NON profit. He made a boat load of cash off of that so called Non Profit. Gets paid well over $500 grand a year

That’s his dad (white-haired, born in 1952 Joe II) who deals with Chavez. This kid was born in 1980...a twin.

I believe these are the twins Joe II attempted to incinerate some years back.

A Kennedy running is an automatic win, is it not?

In this district, I think that's a safe bet.

Sean Bielat, however, might run, and he'd make a good go of it. I believe he's making a decision w/n to run in mid January.

Like I said in another thread, this state writes it’s own jokes.

Pathetic.

OTOH, Sean Bielat is announcing his decision on Jan. 17. Although as good as he is, he’ll lose to this Kennedy nematode.

I think I’m going to marry my girlfriend so that I can gain Italian citizenship and leave once and for all. It’s disheartening.

yes—Joe Kennedy III’s twin brother

Boston Globe 7/22/97:
>>One of the twin sons of US Representative Joseph P. Kennedy II suffered a second-degree burn Saturday after he joined his father in setting off fireworks on the beach outside the family’s Hyannisport compound.
The premature explosion of a “spark emitting firework” resulted in Matthew Kennedy suffering the burn to his left forearm. The 16-year-old was treated and released from Cape Cod Hospital, Kennedy spokesman Brian O’Connor said.
Aides said the congressman is aware that fireworks are illegal in Massachusetts, although a statement released by Kennedy did not refer to the potential legal liability. “I take responsibility for it,” the congressman said in a written statement …

I heard somewhere that CITGO was changing their name because too many people knew it was Hugo.

Maybe they should revert to their original name, Cities Service. That was a fine oil company headquartered in Bartlesville, OK.
