SALMON, Idaho (Reuters) - The family of a U.S. soldier held captive by the Taliban for over two years said on Wednesday they were optimistic about the possibility of talks between the Afghan insurgent group and countries including the United States.
They expressed hope that Bowe Bergdahl would be freed "as soon as possible" in a statement issued a day after the Taliban said they had reached a preliminary agreement to set up a political office in the Gulf Arab country of Qatar.
"We are optimistic about the possibility of diplomatic discussions between Taliban officials and government officials from other nations, including the United States," the family said in a statement released through the Idaho National Guard.
"Our only son, Bowe Bergdahl, has been held captive for two and a half years. We hope he will be released as soon as possible. We know that serious discussions among diplomats are the most likely way to make this happen, and for Bowe to be returned safely to us, his family," it added.
Bergdahl, of Hailey, Idaho, was a member of the 1st Battalion of the 501st Parachute Infantry Regiment in Afghanistan when he went missing in June 2009. Three days later, the U.S. military declared him captured by the Taliban.
In May 2011, Robert Bergdahl posted an online appeal asking the government of Pakistan and its armed forces to help free his son. In July, the NATO security force in Afghanistan said U.S. and NATO forces had made bringing Bergdahl home a top priority.
The Afghan Taliban announced a preliminary deal on Tuesday to set up a political office in Qatar, which could lead to diplomatic talks, and asked for the release of prisoners held at the U.S. military prison at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.

There were some reports that Bergdahl “walked off post” during off-duty hours in the company of some Afghans and was taken by the Taliban during this absense.
Other reports suggest that Bergdahl was taken during a patrol.
Not sure which is true, but it might account for the kid-glove treatment in the Media.
I’m thinking Big Media is preparing us for a triumphant return of this guy, heralding Hussein the Highest and adding 20-30 points to Hussein’s “approval rating”.

so for all this time the MSM shut up about him, not a peep about him , no questions to the white house about him but now we are trading Taliban for him the MSM will make it look like zero the great again.
The MSM are the real enemies of this country and the certain enemies of truth.
I thought the Taliban captured the family of a US soldier.
I posted just this morning how the MSM have ignored the kidnapping of this soldier and yet not they talk about him to make it look like zero is great .
The state dept worked to get the liberal idiots freed from Iran but now this soldier was always ignored because it hurt zero.
Now zero is into prisoner swapping then all is great.
This soldier will also be used to justify zero and his lefty pals and admin talking to the Taliban.
Anyone not knowing why the MSM hasn’t really mentioned this just needs to understand how the MSM works and how they protect their messiah.
You’d think Shamnasty Internationale and Hollywood celebs would be up in arms over war crimes and human rights violations with the Taliban taking hostages but no. And to think they claimed to “support the troops”.

Well it still looks a little funny for Zero after Biden said the Taliban is not our enemy. Why are they holding one of our troops if not the enemy?

I wasn’t there so I didn’t want to repeat the initial reports without a caveat. I always remember the cautionary statement that initial reports are most often “wrong.”
I defer to you on this.
I offer prayers for God to look after the soldier and keep him safe and lay out the best future plan possible for the soldier. BTW, I am furious that I didnt know about this from reading any of the MSM. I should have been able to gather something about it from reading it, but no, nothing at all. So many in our nation dont really care and we are getting more narissistic and less informed. And that is what I gladly admit I am mortified about.
Could you explain what you mean by “go Rambo?” (Haven’t seen the movie). I am very interested in what happened to this soldier.
Thanks for the link, but the Rambo as described does many many things. I don’t know what Bergdahl did, in terms of his disappearance from his camp, that would be like Rambo.
