Retired Army colonel charged with stealing
Arizona Daily Star ^

Posted on 01/05/2012 11:39:48 AM PST by SandRat

This Colonel is a disgrace. He should face a Military Gerneral Courts Martial. Then on conviction he could have his discharge changed to a Dishonerable Discharge, be reduced in rank to E-1, get Federal Military Prison time, and loose all pay and benefits.

I don't know if this is the same case but, during construction of the fence near Yuma, there was a lot of scrap material.

The local OIC of the project asked what to do with it and got an ambiguous reply from his chain of command. The OIC then sold it as scrap locally and used the funds for MWR for the NG troops locally. Seems like that was about a year or so ago.

After the fact, the whole thing blew up as mismanagement of resources and the MSM had its panties in a bunch over it.

You are correct. Article 2 of the UCMJ, subsection (a)(4) Persons Subject to this Chapter, “Retired members of a regular component of the armed forces who are entitled to pay.”

That includes you and I.

I’m broken hearted to read this. It makes me think such activity is rampant and we just don’t know about it. I remember reading a book written about a time when NCO clubs had slot machines for entertainment. The money was skimmed by active duty and civilian managers. I think they all went to prison. With the high tech of today, it’s all probably harder to catch.

A General Courts Martial under the UCMJ is authorized at the sentencing hearing to reduce him to the lowest enlisted rank, imprsion, and order the forfeiture of all pay allowances and benefits

IIRC, this puke is still a Major.

The Department of Military Affairs in Montana is only missing $23 million.

Well, of COURSE he stole from the National Guard. Who cares about the National Guard? After all we’re not REAL soldiers, are we?

Pull his ass back on active duty, and let UCMJ come down on his neck like a Muslim sword. Forfeiture of all pay and benefits, reduction in rank, and Dishonorable.

Oh, and a General Officer Letter of Reprimand for his 201 file.

Hey, I got one of those! It sits on the page right next to my Army Commendation Medal certificate, signed by the same GO, for the same exercise. It's what I got for being low man on the totem pole.

“It was rampant in Nam and Germany, mostly Nam”

I’m sure. The case I knew about was in the fifties at NCO Clubs in Germany and Japan. I think the book was called the Khaki Mafia or something like that. My husband was a retired field grade officer too with two tours in Vietnam. If he heard of anything like that there, he never mentioned it. He died eight months ago today. AO exposure-related cancer.
