Typical AP. New Hampshire would be the 5th state, after Alaska, Arizona, Vermont, and Wyoming. Not the 4th state. I note that they did not include Montana, which is almost constitutional carry, and make the state in the freedom friendly direction.

Hard to believe, there are some states, like CA, NY etc, who have such intrusive controlling governments, they can actually prohibit law abiding individuals from protecting themselves and their families. These controlling, intrusive dangerous laws, do nothing but minimize their safety and put millions of these law abiding citizens at great risk.

And more often than not, it is the police department and the PD unions and leadership that are in favor of the onerous restrictions on law abiding citizens.

I wonder what effect this change would have on non-resident licenses? I obtained one because the state reciprocity meant I could carry in several states not covered by my Ohio resident license.

All of which are agents of, or employed by government. county sheriff’s, city department chiefs, etc., are nothing more than government politicians, who generally take their marching orders from very controlling individuals running the county and state governments.

Even though you don't need a license in Alaska, they still issue licenses on demand for the purposes of reciprocity, or so I heard.
I hope NH will do the same.

My understanding is that you get a permit if you decide that you want one.

Exactly. It's right there in the article.

The House voted 193-122 Thursday to make the permits optional. Gun owners could still get them so they could travel to states with reciprocal permit agreements.

That will allow NH-ites to bring their guns to states with which NH has reciprocity but require a piece of paper.

That's what I did in Arizona, for that same purpose.

.
More accurately, Chiefs of police, who usually are not real cops, but political zealots. Rank anf file officers do not support any kind of gun control.

Well, you missed the 2 State Cops’ dog and pony show with the governor this week protesting these 2 House bills.
