Des Moines, Iowa (AP) -- The military is investigating an Army reservist who took the stage at a political event for Ron Paul and expressed his support for the Republican presidential candidate.

At a Paul rally on Tuesday night in Iowa, Cpl. Jesse Thorsen stood at a podium wearing his military fatigues and said the congressman's foreign policy was "hands down better than any other candidate's."

yes, and besides the consequence of his appearing in Uniform, I also think he should have a consequence for being a moron.

I saw that and I am very disappointed in Ron Paul for allowing that to happen. The man was in uniform. Paul as an officer knows that is not allowed. Big minus for Paul for allowing a fellow service men to break the code. In cives no big deal, in uniform is a no no and Paul knows that.

Has it been even determined if he is a real soldier? A quick search on this guy when this came up resulted in mugshots and police records- but no indication of military service.

Prosecute him and all the gays who have been marching in pride parades in their uniforms or chaining themselves to the White House gates, as well.

I was at this event. The Paul campaign’s email invitation hit my mobile as I was leaving my caucus site, and I headed down there on an impulse. It seemed that a lot of other people did the same, and this was probably the case with the young soldier. The aborted CNN hallway interview introduced him as a first-time Iowa caucus participant.

I’m not assuming that Ron Paul aimed to parade a uniformed serviceman on stage. Paul bustled in through the rear of the hotel soon before mounting the stage. He invited this young man up through the hallway entry on the opposite side. It’s likely that a volunteer simply told Paul that a war veteran had just been cut off from having his say. The soldier had obviously not prepared himself to be a speaker, he looked dazed up there, and he did cut it short.

This was a collection of clumsiness. Almost all Iowa caucus campaign events are set up and run by volunteers and local amateurs. Many of them are young, and all of them mean well. Some of them are more enthusiastic than adroit. The candidate blows in at the last minute. Some times things get muddled up.

It was permissible for this soldier to attend his precinct caucus in uniform, but he screwed up by not changing into civilian clothes before heading to the rally. I hope his CO does punish him...very mildly. The young man made a Sad Sack spectacle of himself on national TV. That’s a self-punishing mistake if there ever was one.
