Santorum comes under closer scrutiny in New Hampshire
Reuters ^ | Jan 5, 2012 | Reuters

Republican presidential upstart Rick Santorum found himself under increasing scrutiny on Thursday as front-runner Mitt Romney tried to chip away at his credibility ahead of the key New Hampshire primary.

Santorum's surge in Iowa, which held its nominating contest on Tuesday, was so quick that his record as a U.S. senator and strong conservative views against abortion and gay marriage escaped close attention from his 2012 presidential rivals and the media.

His entry into New Hampshire was rocky. College students booed him at New England College over his position against gay marriage and he was forced to explain a remark he made in Iowa that appeared to single out blacks as recipients of federal assistance.

A Suffolk University tracking poll showed Romney on cruise control in New Hampshire ahead of its primary next Tuesday but that Santorum had risen to a distant third. It gave Romney 41 percent support, Ron Paul 18 percent and Santorum 8 percent, and Romney spent the day campaigning in South Carolina.

After finishing a close second to Romney in Iowa and bursting into the limelight, Santorum is under the microscope, drawing fire from Senator John McCain, a Romney supporter who clashed often with Santorum over government spending when they were Senate colleagues.

The rodents at Rooters turn their guns on Santorum now. Forgotten are Bachmann's gaffes, Cain's inappropriate remarks and Newt's lobbying activities.

Oddly, not a critical word about Willard, who's been a front runner for months now.

Could these a**holes be any more transparent??

So what?
People that support perverts getting married are not likely to be voters for a conservative anyhow..........

So the baby killers and gay activists don’t like Rick Santorum. So what? Does that mean we should get back to killing babies and bringing gerbils into churches, as Reuters clearly wants?

Is there any criticism about Romney that hasn’t previously been explored or isn’t already widely known? I’m pretty sure that’s why he’s not been able to expand his support.

Lets face it. New England College ain't exactly Stanford. Last I heard Santorum' position on gay marriage is the same as obama's. Wonder if they will ever boo him (no I don't.)

I was referring to the major news networks. 99% of the criticism of WIllard I've heard has come from alternative/conservative news sources.

I have the feeling the MSM is overplaying their hand, though. Given Obama's low approvals people are certainly hoping for an alternative, and they have to be noticing how the mainstream network news media is acting as political assassins on his behalf.

How they can retain any credibility at all is beyond me.

Santorum never said "black". CBS put that word there, in front of "people's lives". Inside the quotation marks. But he never said it. And the video of the event proves it.

They lied.

Again.

After our caucus here in Iowa, and the 2008 general election, I've finally had to face reality. The reality is that the vast majority of the general public are uninformed dunces.

Remember that 47% of Americans don't pay a penny of federal taxes, millions receive public assistance of some kind or other, one in eight Americans are immigrants (and the vast majority of those vote Democrat) and a good portion of the population directly or indirectly works for the state.

Meaning they're not dunces, they're voting their own pocketbooks.

Maybe that makes you feel better.

Then again, maybe it doesn't - after all, stupid people can be informed.

Why would you deem that relevant? Are you suggesting he was ILLEGAL? If not it's completely absurd that you would even mention it.

I am not a birther, but many would argue that if Pappy wasn't naturalized when Rick was conceived, there could be an issue.

I don't say this to slight Rick, I say it to rub your nose in your obsession with immigration law.

I'm an expert on building bridges, not immigration law. But one needn't be an expert on anything to identify faux conservatives aka, people like you who support ILLEGAL immigration. You're known as liberals.

If you have any credible information to prove Rick Santorum's father was not legal you would have provided it. Clearly you don't. You're just hell bent on making a fool of yourself. Have at it.

You PM'd me because you mistakenly believed you were "rubbing my nose" in something and lacked the patience to wait for me to see it. That's pretty strange behavior for a conservative. For a liberal it's expected.

You either have a drinking problem or you are extremely disturbed. Either way you're way too creepy...don't PM me again.

I haven't PMed you per your request. To the contrary, you have PMed me since your initial request. Goodnight. I merely wished to illustrate your inability to understand the nuance of law when it favors YOUR GUY OF THE WEEK. As far as the Naturalized citizen thing, I NEVER said that I believe it, but there it is, so why not toss it out there? Like Your original post that DISSED Perry for championing Voter ID, by SUGGESTING that college ID's for kids in the TX Dream act was something Perry had suggested or championed?

You know damn well the story behind the Tx DREAM act. Tx was forced into a financially untenable situation by the FED, Then the Tx Legislature passed the bill by an unvetoeble margin with only 4 dissenting votes, and YOU have been trying to make it a millstone around Perry's neck for as long as he has been in the race.

If you listened to Santorum’s speech Tuesday night/Wednesday morning, you’d have heard his family’s immigration history. His grandfather came to the US and became a citizen in five years, as was the standard at the time. He saved his money and brought his son (Sen. Santorum’s father) here as a young child @ 10 years old.

If his grandfather saw to getting US citizenship for himself in 5 years, one would assume he’d have done the same for his son. I don’t think we understand today how very important obtaining US citizenship was to immigrants during the first half of the 20th Century.

As to your underlying NBC question, his father was a US citizen long before Sen. Santorum was born, so he fits the Constitutional eligibility requirement under any interpretation.

Numerous sources say that it was his father that was an immigrant and none of them define when they were naturalized.

As I have said, my post was not about getting Santorum, it was about punching South40 in the nose for some of his BAD behavior.

I’ll leave you and South to your own devices .. but BOTH Santorum’s father AND his grandfather were Italian immigrants. He explained that in his speech the other night. And he said the grandfather was naturalized 5 years after he got here.

If that’s true, then Aldo is not an immigrant.

I have read nothing to that effect.
I have read from numerous sources that Ricks father Aldo was an immigrant.

At any rate it’s all academic, I am not suggesting Santorum is not qualified due to birth.

yeah, I don’t think there’s anyone raising questions about Santorum’s eligibility.

But what his family did was pretty typical of the early 20th century. Grandfather came here, lived on a pittance, saved money, and one by one brought the rest of the family over. It’s what most immigrants, especially from southern Europe, did then. They were too poor, so most didn’t come in family packs.

I found that part of Santorum’s speech most interesting. If it’s on youtube you should check it out.

You're not only creepy, you're stupid and creepy. I never said Perry supported such a thing; I didn't even imply it.

And I have no "guy of the week". That you would even suggest a thing is a lie. That’s not unexpected from a Perrybot, but a lie just the same.

I have supported one candidate in this race and that was Herman Cain. Since then I have said I would be happy with the either of the two conservatives still in the race, they being Santorum or Bachmann. With Bachmann out it’s down to Santorum. So I have now supported 2 candidates in this race. That hardly makes Santorum my “guy of the week”, but it does prove you are a liar.

Say what you will about Santorum, at least he gets votes, an accomplishment that thus far is well beyond the ability of your pro-ILLEGAL alien hero, RINO Rick.
