AP source: Admin. plans change in immigration rule

WASHINGTON (AP) - The Obama administration plans a rule change to help reduce the time illegal immigrant spouses and children are separated from citizen relatives while they try to win legal status in the United States, a senior administration official said Thursday.

Currently, illegal immigrants must leave the country before they can ask the government to waive a three- to 10-year ban on legally coming back to the U.S. The length of the ban depends on how long they have lived in the U.S. without permission.

The official said the new rule would let children and spouses of citizens ask the government to decide on the waiver request before the illegal immigrant heads to his or her home country to apply for a visa. The illegal immigrants still must go home to finish the visa process to come back to the U.S., but getting the waiver ahead of time could reduce the time an illegal immigrant is out of the country.

Can all these "rules" be instantly undone by a real president?

By all means, make it easier on the folks who do not honor or laws, and thereby make it tougher on those who do and have to foot their bills. /s

It’s time for congress to step up and assert its authority. This administration is running a campaign, not the country.

This is what happens when the legislative branch "outsources" the creation of law to the executive branch!

The VERY FIRST SENTENCE of Article I of the Constitution reads:

All legislative Powers herein granted shall be vested in a Congress of the United States, which shall consist of a Senate and House of Representatives.

Notice it doesn't say SOME legislative Powers, but ALL.

When the Congress creates an agency under the executive and ALLOWS THEM FREE REIGN, it is a violation of the Constitution.

The Congress must stop allowing the executive branch the ability to CREATE LAW on a whim.

Rick Santorum, your office is writing all these stupid Obama regs down, to overturn your first day on the job, right?

I hope so. I know Gingrich is. He has a list of things to do the first day. I would hope that the others do also.

In a more familiar place, in the recent past (instead of this Twilight Zone), it might be concluded that this PINO has seen internal polling indicating next to zero probability of re-election.

Here in the Twilight Zone, however, since its this PINO, when added to his more recent track record, it's possible to conclude he's deliberately trying to provoke, to divide through shame in the aftermath of violent reaction.

(That notion arises out of the Left's incorrect assumptions about the character of Conservatives, based, in other words, on what the PINO thinks of Conservatives and not how real Conservatives behave - how Leftists think "Neanderthal conservatives" behave.

As it was following the Arizona massacre by a mad anarchist it's important, I submit, to remember many Leftists really believe "right wing rhetoric" creates an "atmosphere" conducive to violence, the truth being totally beside the point.

We are finally getting a clear view of this Napoleonic character, someone like a bank robber surrounded by police before he can make good an escape.

He's taking hostages.

Article One, Section One. Thanks for pointing this out, and for remembering that the Congress cannot absolve itself of its responsibilities, in the end. The promulgation of rules, rule-making authority by the various departments is totally a creature of Congress. That authority can be revoked.

When the weak sister Members of that body tell the press they "can't do anything" about this nonsense, what they are really saying is either they won't or that they don't have the votes.

. Bitterness against Congress, of course, plays into the PINO's cynical strategy. This is a "win-win" for an executive concerned not for the welfare of the nation but for his own political skin.
