One of the little moments that stand out from my years of reporting at the White House and on Capitol Hill involved Rick Santorum.
I remember it to this day, because it was so genuine and, given what eventually happened, poignant. It helps explain why the people of Iowa gave Santorum his shot.
This is not an endorsement. Its just something from my personal experience I thought might interest you about Santorum. . . .
-snip-
Santorum was duly asked by one reporter why he was committing political suicide. Actually, it was more polite, like, Isnt this going to hurt your reelection prospects?
I expected some kind of nonsense claiming that everything was perfectly normal aboard the Titanic and that iceberg ahead was a welcome diversion to be marveled at and embraced.
Instead, he was kind of sheepish, looking down, smiling a bit. He said something like I really cant worry about the politics of this. Its the right thing to do.

He is the last one in that I will support. Perry is second, Newt is third....Romney...why vote
Go Rick.
He will now have the money to compete in SC.
Latest polls are looking good for him in SC.
What a difference a week makes.
I remeber as a yong man just out of high school in Pittsburg when Santorum was elected to the US Senate after one term as a Congressman. I remember my mother telling me, “that man is going to be President some day”.

Pardon me. PITTSBURGH!
He has got an uphill battle. But he’s in better shape today, than he was a week ago. If he can keep the Big MO, raise a lot more money and withstand the negatives that will be thrown at him, he could do it. At least, for the time being, he has the money to compete.
Ah yes! Isn’t it the old adage of just who can win!
I support anyone other than Romney at this point.
Does that mean that I won’t support Romney eventually if he is the nominee? Of course not! I will support him regardless of the Democratic candidate.
Until then, I will actively support anyone who is Conservative and NOT Romney...
Likely to be a wild Republican Convention.
They may call Dole out of retirement to manage the convention to make sure everyone there is for Romney.
I think that your reasons that you give for supporting Santorum apply at least as much if not more to Ron Paul. ( I do NOT support Ron Paul. Santorum is not my first or second choice, either.)
Santorum is indeed impressive.
Except Santorum never published a racist and jew hating newsletter for 10 years. Or preach daily on the evils of earmarks and then take more than most. Can you say hypocrite evil nutjob politician and sleazy disturbed snakeoil salesman? That’s Ron Paul exactly.
Santorum would make a terrific President.
I wonder if he is ruthless enough to take on the street thug Obama in order to get elected?
Rick is not ruthless. He is courageous. There is a difference. And the answer then, is yes.
I agree—sadly I also believe that the vast majority of my fellow Americans do not want any politician who is guided by principles-or at least publicly unashamed of being guided by the Christian Moral ethic-as I believe this nations Founding fathers intended.Rather liked what Mark Levin has said about the trio Santorum, Ron Paul , and Mittyboy.
My neighbor asked me what I think of Santorum. I replied, “He is the most dangerous manin America.”
Why? Because folks will vote for him. They will believe they will be safe if they do. What is going to happen down the road when the Wil E. Coyote of our economy looks down is inevitable. The Donks don’t want to be “holding the reins” when it happens. Read how to capture a herd of wild hogs. Santorum will be the one to “close the gate”. He will do it the same way George Bush wrote a check for a Trillion Dollars for his GOldman Sachs Sec. of Treasury. Scared to death. While this election probably is “the most important of our lives” it also is the most irrelevant. What is coming can’t be stopped.
we agree what is coming can’t be stopped—I must add-the part in me that yet believes in the miraculous— is God can stop it
question is will he find justification in so doing?I no longer put my trust in the strong of man. In governments. But I was born an American -and became a Christian and if the bible is true -as I believe it to be— then there may be some hope for America—if we repent.
My story is pretty much like yours. I was baptised ten years ago. I agree with you completely. I don’t see much “repentance” around here.
