Michelle Obama and the Evolution of a First Lady
New York Times ^ | 1/7/12 | Jodi Kantor

Posted on 01/07/2012 7:53:16 AM PST by LRoggy

Michelle Obama was privately fuming, not only at the president’s team, but also at her husband.

In the days after the Democrats lost Edward Kennedy’s Senate seat in January 2010, Barack Obama was even-keeled as usual in meetings, refusing to dwell on the failure or lash out at his staff. The first lady, however, could not fathom how the White House had allowed the crucial seat, needed to help pass the president’s health care legislation and the rest of his agenda, to slip away, several current and former aides said.

OMG!!!! Someone forgot to put the PUKE ALERT on! Almost lost my coffee reading this tripe. The comments section in the times was VERY disturbing and show the real threat that some of the obamanites hold for this country. Yuck!!!!

“Amazingly enough, as I read this article Jodi Kantor wrote about her newly published book on the Obama’s the thought that came to mind was how much she seems to substantiate what the Ulsterman columns were saying!”

Right you are! IMO, Ulsterman is at least vindicated regarding this episode:

“Early on Sept. 16 (2010), Robert Gibbs was scanning the news when a story stopped him short: according to a new French book, Michelle Obama had told Carla Bruni-Sarkozy, the French first lady, that living in the White House was “hell.” It was a potential disaster — the equivalent of the $400 haircut, Mr. Gibbs feared, coming just weeks before election day and on the heels of a vacation in Spain that had drawn accusations of lavish spending.

“Mr. Gibbs asked her aides to find out if she had said anything even close (no, the answer came back), and then fought the story back for hours, having the book translated and convincing the Élysée Palace to issue a denial. By noon the potential crisis had been averted.

“But at Mr. Emanuel’s 7:30 a.m. staff meeting the next day, Ms. Jarrett announced that the first lady had concerns about the White House’s response to the book, according to several people present. All eyes turned to Mr. Gibbs, who started to steam.

“’Don’t go there, Robert, don’t do it,’ Mr. Emanuel warned.

“’That’s not right, I’ve been killing myself on this, where’s this coming from?’ Mr. Gibbs yelled, adding expletives. He interrogated Ms. Jarrett, whose calm only seemed to frustrate him more. The two went back and forth, Ms. Jarrett unruffled, Mr. Gibbs shaking with rage. Finally, several staff members said, Mr. Gibbs cursed the first lady — colleagues stared down at the table, shocked — and stormed out.”

Yes, the comments section is worse than the article - very frightening that so many are so willingly misinformed and/or capable of critical thought or at least skepticism.

Last night I added a comment that I thought was mild - for a Freeper - saying basically that it’s too bad that we citizens who are not worthy cannot pay for more vacations for her. This alluded to a post that in all seriousness said that our country isn’t good enough for the Obamas. Needless to say, the other post remained while mine was removed.

There are many really gorgeous black women and MO isn’t one of them. Wonder how long it takes to get her looking even this good. I guess that’s not really important except for the fact that the left is always drooling over her horrible clothes and “beauty”. What \ever beauty she displays is at great expense, the best money can buy.

When the leftist media raves on about her beauty and grace it is indicative of their cultural mindset in which they think they can make things be true by saying so.

Michelle “Antoinette”?

M'Antoinette, pronounced MAN-twa-NET.

If she had wished to maintain her career (which would mean she actually did something in her $300K a year hospital job) and keep her children in school where they had ties and friendships, so be it.

The "first family" aspect of the President job is almost becoming similar to the royals. If he wanted to just go to work like other elected officials do, I'd be good with it.

I'd agree, but security concerns probably made that impossible. The President's family becomes the focus of many threats, so it's probably best to have them in a secure area. We aren't a country like Holland or Finland where political officials and their families probably could live ordinary lives, and even Sweden, a country without all the global pressures and significance of the United States, has seen two prime ministers assassinated in recent decades.

I’ve never understood the folks that gush about her fashion sense, how great she looks, etc. .....

That was part of the general media intoxication with the Obamas. As Barack's poll numbers have gone down, there's less and less of that stuff in the media.

You'll hear more in the press about how "stylish" she is in the run-up to the election, and people will repeat it, but I doubt the people who write that stuff still believe it. Think of one of those stars that burns out, but it takes years for other parts of the universe to see that: there's always going to be some idiot somewhere who hasn't seen through the hype yet.

some fancy suburb in Westchester - Mt. Kisco I think with his mistress Sandra Lee - although I just read a press release dated 1/3/12 that they had just moved to the governor’s mansion.

Great - (Mansion is next door to the Cathedral) now they will show up next door for mass and Hubbard will give them communion ...

The security is a good point. I thought of that, but it occurs to me that she travels the world on her own and takes separate planes for most of their vacations, so I didn’t see the cost difference as being significant.

Maybe the money was fake. I would say get a refund, but even that won't help pure ugliness.

Where there's a shell, there's a way.

25 years ago, we had Ronald Reagan, Johnny Cash, and Bob Hope.
Today we have Obama, no cash, and no hope!

If you can't appreciate the pure beauty of the violin after hearing this, something's wrong with your ears.

Or you can get raw with these strings.

How about this gamechanger from America's Got Talent (which they SHOULD have won).

And finally, this, dedicated to the one and only rdb2. His time may be short.

Either way, the violin is sweet yet LETHAL.

Do it!
