The U.S. soldier whose rape case was largely responsible for the reinstatement of a curfew for all American servicemembers in South Korea appeared before an appeals court Thursday asking that his 10-year prison sentence be reduced.

It is pointed out in the comments section of the link:

The US military maintains its own section in the Suwon Prison for its US military prisoners separate from the Koreans. These convicted felons get command and chaplain visits regularly. Have their own kitchen and are provided food, reading materials and staples from the commissary and PX/BX. They also have TV and internet connections. Their quality of life is excellent compared to the local nationals.

How about he can get a reduction of sentence but in return they cut off his testicles for laying a hand on a woman.

We could reduce his sentence from ten years to ten hours ...

... of swimming in the Bering Sea.

Without a gumby suit.

There was a guy who did something similar while I was there. Raped the girl with an umbrella, bottle, and a number of other items.

I’d say the guy is lucky to only get 10 yrs. He should do it in the korean side of the prison. People are actually scared of going to prison in korea.

Let's reduce it to seven months....

... on death row, ended with hanging by the neck until dead.

from the article:
“Once inside, according to court testimony, he repeatedly raped and sodomized the victim over the course of four hours.

During that time, he also punched and slapped the victim in the face, stole a small amount of money from her wallet, dragged her across the room, threatened her with a knife and pair of scissors, and burned her breast with a lighter, among other things, according to court records and testimony”.

NO MERCY! He got off very easy.

When I first got there we were told a story of a guy who had raped a village girl. The villagers caught and hung him up by his wanker. Not sure if its true but thats what this guy deserves.

As Driftdiver alluded, things are very different now.
The west exported much of the world manufacturing industries to Asia, and with it went education and prosperity far beyond what was available to them in the mid 20th century.

People are actually scared of going to prison in korea.

Ironically I just finished a audiobook entitled 'Brother One Cell.' In the 90's a guy 23 (not military) tried to smuggle drugs into the country. He got over 3 years at Jacjon prison. His cell was 9' long by about a little over 4' wide.

If you get away from the bases and bars, Korea is an absolutely beautiful country. The people are great and will treat you great.

Like in America, if you spend time with a stripper in Korea you are apt to get taken advantage of and possibly a good case of an STD.

I remember getting off the beaten track and coming across an old man who hadn’t seen an American since the Korean war. He just wanted his picture taken with me. Very nice and really liked Americans.

10 years in a Mexican style prison seems appropriate in this case.

I was over there about 35 years ago. It's not like that over there anymore. I have a friend who was over there recently and at the Camp he was stationed at had one "club" down the street an elderly Korean woman owned and ran. She had a younger Filipino bar girl shaking down the customers for drink money. That was the "downtown" entertainment for the whole Camp.

The way the word ‘rape’ is now abused (to the point of one feminist calling ALL sex to be rape, even in marriage), my first thought is that this 17 year old girl started flirting with him somewhere went to a room with him...started doing some stuff, and then changed her mind...or maybe changed her mind after the event, just to get some money or some other revenge.

Considering how often the above scenarios play out, I was actually surprised to see this is REALLY a forcible rape - and this guy does need to fry...providing the story is accurate. 10 years is a GIFT...he should be doing 30 years at a North Korean labor camp - and hopefully he’ll have to be registered when he gets back here.
