Newt Gingrich eyed as main rival - Strategies skip Santorum

MANCHESTER N.H. — The Super PAC backing Mitt Romney says it’s keeping its New Hampshire radar on Newt Gingrich — revving up to unleash its newest attack ad on Monday — a move experts say suggests that, for the Romney camp, Rick Santorum’s recent surge poses no political threat.

The Restore Our Future PAC, funded largely by wealthy Romney supporters, has elected to continue the onslaught of attacks on Gingrich only, its spokeswoman told the Herald.

The PAC’s entire nat-ional campaign next week — amid New Hampshire’s primary on Tuesday — will bypass the former Pennsylvania senator entirely, she said, and focus on what it still perceives as its greatest threat, Gingrich.

As predicted...

While Santorum serves his useful purpose of taking out Newt in S.C., Romney will keeps the gloves off.

Stick a fork in Newt. He's done.

Four months ago, most of us thought Newt running for President was a bad joke. We were right.

Go Santorum.

So here we have a PAC-—in other words Romney supporters violating the 11th. Reagan commandment to support Mitt Romney and lose any votes that the Gingrich voters might have brought to them.

They will be needing those votes if their boy wins.
They won’t get mine.

Dirty tricks politics reflects on those who use them, and Romney is overusing them. Slime always rises to the top I suppose, but Romney cannot win the Presidency by showing what a slimeball he is.

By the way I know he is staying away and letting others do his dirty work for him,but that just makes him look worse IMO.

LOL. The old "Stalking Horse" theory rears it's ugly head again. Exactly what evidence do you have that Santorum is some sort of Romney plant? Could it be that the Romney camp doesn't have anything to go after Santorum about and that is why they are not doing it?

“They will be needing those votes if their boy wins.

Then what do they stand to lose by continuing?

Yeah, we'll see that genius Santorum at the debate tonight.

He makes watching paint dry seem like a 14 car crash at the Indy 500.

IMHO Newt, even with all his baggage and warts, remains our best hope of keeping Romney out.

Eventually if Santorum and Paul don't get out they will suck up enough valuable votes to keep Newt from winning. Romney has such good organization and so much dough he's formidable. Just check any conservative or near conservative website. He's bought everything. He knows what he is doing, scary.

Newt ought to challenge him to a duel.

Tonight’s debate: wait until someone asks Santorum about his proposal to immediately cut Social Security benefits. Let the squirming begin!

You know, on every single thread all you can do is tear down other candidates instead of building up your own. You seem more satisfied with being able to assign blame if your guy doesn’t win.

Some time ago, JimRob requested that we cut that out. JimRob finds Newt and the Ricks all acceptable. You will not find a thread from me bashing any of them. Your contributions as of late have been repetitive and non-constructive.

In short ... cut the crap.

I wholeheartedly agree with that.

Good post.

Problem is Romney obviously learned from zero and the regime.

He saw that all zero does is run for office, even while "in office". The regime has a huge staff just creating chaos all the time with every single move they make political. If you want to go up against a corrupt machine like that you better know who the "heck" they are.He obviously does.

Good. While Newt and Mitt slap fight, Santorum can sneak up on ‘em.

Rave on——Santorum can’t get elected over Obama-—he even lost in Pa when a sitting Senator-—I am with him on many issues but he does not have the ‘nastiness’ that is necessary to take on the Rats-—

He does. But, just like last time with the huckster blocking for Mcqueeg if it happens again Newt won’t have a prayer.

Please tell me, did Santorum filibuster a right-to-work bill and also vote to retain the 30’s era Davis-Bacon Act, AKA “prevailing wage” bill?

Thanks.

Trouble is to truly take this stuff seriously he should have started the day after zero was sworn in.

IT takes years to get everything that has to be done in order. Without a huge well financed, well funded machine, super organized attack squad, uphill does not begin to describe the plight.

Newt is brilliant but does not always play the right card at the right time.
