Immigrants key to reaching mayor's population goal (Baltimore)
The Baltimore Sun ^ | 1/7/12 | Steve Kilar

What comes to mind when Mexican immigrant Elsa Garcia thinks of Baltimore's drawbacks?

"Basura. O las drogas," said the East Baltimore resident. "Trash. Or drugs."

Then, quickly, comes her list of Baltimore's pluses: Her husband has been able to find construction work. They have affordable housing. Police are not automatically suspicious of immigrants.

(SNIP)

At her inauguration, Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake set the goal of increasing the city's population by 22,000 people — 3.5 percent — in 10 years. Drawing native-born people back from the suburbs and working to retain current residents will help stem the population decline but cannot alone provide the number required to meet that goal, experts say.

According to demographers, cities like Baltimore that have experienced extreme population declines can start growing again only by embracing foreign-born residents. They say the city government and its residents should be prepared for the expansion of ethnic enclaves dominated by people from Latin America, Asia and Africa — a trend that helped Philadelphia and Washington reverse long slides.

Trash or drugs. I wonder if the trash problem isn’t just candy wrappers, if you get my drift.

It’s Baltimore. They won’t even have to be legal immigrants.

A growing population and economic base in Baltimore City is worth working towards, however, population growth of lower income or creating new “ghetto” areas is not going to help the city in the long run.

Or does she hope to get new immigrant voters who will vote Democrat??????????

I can’t imagine why people wouldn’t want to live in Baltimer such that they think the solution is to attract illegals.

They say the city government and its residents should be prepared for the expansion of ethnic enclaves...

Yes, more uneducated people drawing government aide of one type or the other is a way to grow. Sounds like Nancy saying unemployment stimulates the economy.

As though Baltimore isn’t a big enough shithole right now. The Democrats are going to destroy what is left of its industrial base and small businesses.

Having lived there for many years (also born there), I’ve watched it go down the toilet since the late 1960’s and what was once a proud and decent city to live in, for many, has now turned into a drug-center, crime-center of Maryland, and not all the crooks are on the streets (some are in politics).

When Nancy Pelosi’s brother, the mayor, let the black extremists burn out white businesses (which mainly hired local black employees), it broke the back of the small business and it has never recovered from it.

I say we go into orbit and nuke it from there.

This kind of crap automatically brings to my mind that d*ck with ears, Martin O’Malley. This sounds like his kind of crap.

Why doesn’t Baltimore just lower it’s property taxes and stop whining about guns, so that actual TAXPAYERS will move back in? I don’t see these “enclaves” being quite as productive as the people who fled the city.

Maryland “Freak State” PING!

Of course no mention of cutting the horrendous real estate taxes, actually reducing crime and drugs.

Let's just get more people into the big ghetto of "Charm City"

Just doing the jobs real Americans won’t do — voting liberal and living at the mercy of feral, drug-addicted criminal welfare recipients.

And in closing, Mayor Rawlings-Blake could make her goal of 22,000 more residents by building 22,000 more jail cells and sweeping several of the neighborhoods into them.
