The 2013 Fusion vs. the "Volt" ( Vanity )
Autoblog ^ | 01/08/2012 | Taildragger

The Link above is for the photos of the car leaked from a Czech Blog, but is their a bigger story?

Look at this car compared to the Volt, obviously easier on the eyes, but will it spark a bigger debate?

I.E., the free-market approach of product improvement vs the Governments envolvement in GM and lack of market acceptance of the Volt.

What we know from the web.

* It will use the very good handling "Ford Mondeo" Chassis ( possibly new or upgraded )
* It will probably be 4 or 5 star crash rated, seems to be Fords redesign mantra
* It will probably get 10 to 20% better fuel economy, again, what they have achieved in their redesigns. The green car blogs are rumoring 48 mpg in the city for the Hybrid.
* As these pictures note, it has the DNA of the "EVOS" Show-car.

My first thought on seeing that was not Aston Martin, it was Mitsubishi Evo.

I’ll have to see it in person I guess, the photos don’t really floor me.

Glad to see them getting away from the over-blinged plastichrome slats on the grille, but I’m not really sure the thin horizontal bars say “Ford.” It’ll probably look good in a performance variant with all that blacked out. I’d have put the oval logo in the grille, myself.

There must be an across the board refresh coming on other Ford lines, for this to make sense in the context of Ford “family” design cues.

I mean, sure, where there’s smoke there may be fire, but the Volt just strikes me as something for the ash-heap of history.

Along with the Corvair and Obama.

Careful their, the Corvair was a poor man’s Porsche. Obama is not worthy of being mentioned with a Corvair...

Grinning, laughing at you faces. And the names....What is a Leganza anyway?

Remember the 54 or 55 Buick Roadmaster? That was a car that had an “irritated” face!

Lets see..

The 74 working Pinto wins, the non working Pinto came in second. The Volt got recalled.

The Yugo that is working (the only one in the world) won. It was followed by all the other Yugos, then the Volt.

the Baker won, then 0 said that it is the best of today's technology, then gave the Baker's owner 9.9 trillion.

If it is known that this could be a danger, then it would be easy enough to remove batteries for a checkup and to a safe location after an accident.

The Photos are out un-embargoed...

Ford is claiming the "Energi" version will be the most fuel efficient car on the road, better number(s) than the Volt or the Leaf.

Let the political comparisons begin...

The "Energi" Drivetrain version.

OK, I may be in the minority, but I LIKE that look. It looks pissed off and aggressive.

We bought a car yesterday at Carmax (2010 Mazda 5 Sport). If we had been in the market for a four-door instead of a wagon, there was a 2010 Fusion SE there with the 3-liter six that I had my eye on. They’re good cars.

Wow!

I guess Ferraris are destined for a startling new look some time in the near future, huh?

This is the size of the contract between Ford and the UAW. The number of work rules makes it very difficult for Ford (or any other maker) to make cars efficiently.

I heard the guys on Top Gear talking about that. They also mentioned that the US regs now require much better rollover protection so the pillars (especially the A pillar) are much bigger. That has led to worse visibility in many vehicle. That makes very little sense in my book.
