Intellectually speaking, we live in fascinating, if dangerous, times. Given a larger view of history, it should be understood that nations, political systems, and currencies come and go on a fairly regular basis. Human freedom is an exception -- not the norm.
There are four core components necessary for the existence of an independent, sovereign nation: A system of laws (constitutional or otherwise,) geographical borders, a sound monetary system, and a defensive function.
Presently, the United States is failing (or trending toward failure) on the first three counts. Failure on two or more will lead to a failure of the fourth (national defense.) Capitalism notwithstanding, could it be that this is what Russia, China, and the emerging Islamic Caliphate want? Or what George Soros wants?
It is for this reason that I support Ron Paul for POTUS. Yes, detractors of Paul's foreign policy may have legitimate gripes -- in particular his seeming failure to understand that radical Islamists cannot be disincentivized in the same way that Soviet Communists could.
Here is a short, 2002 video of Ron Paul making a multitude of predictions in the areas of economics and geopolitics. Watch the entire thing before judging -- Paul's accuracy craves explanation.

Could it be that Ron Paul is right about economics, the Constitution, and geopolitics, and that his detractors are the ones that have it wrong?

You can be crazy and make stunningly accurate predictions.
Ron Paul is a Libertarian. Libertarians do not believe in borders, nor does Paul believe in a reasonable national defense. He fails on two of the issues all by his little bitty self.
He wasn’t the only one making those predictions but he was one of the few with a public forum from which to state them.
He’s still a crazy loon who should have been packed off to long-term treatment years ago.
LRon Paul Wants Kucinich in his Cabinet
Ron Paul booed during Tea Party debate after Osama bin Laden answer
This guy is NO conservative.
Ron Paul is a Consitutional American conservative and believes in borders.
You can be right and still crazy.
Local draft board where taking only men between 18 1/2 to 25 years old. Ron Paul was 27.
They also did not draft married men. And Ron Paul was married.
They also did not draft men to be officers and flight surgeons.
In fact, only about 200,000 men were drafted between 1962 to 1963.
Finally at that time, men were drafted into the Army, they were never drafted into the Air Force.
In fact even through out the Vietnam War, the Air Force never had a manpower shortage and never used the draft to fill up its ranks.
Wrong - Ron Paul is a neo-lib and is neither a Conservative or a Libertarian.
Ping to a thread soliciting ALL of the reasons you have for concluding that LRon is indeed batsh*t crazy!
Like I said on another thread.
Hes a regular nastrodamus.
I dont recall Tony Blair attacking Iraq and setting off WW3?
This.
Yes, he’s still crazy. Anyone who makes the assertion we can comfortably live with the idea of a nuclear-armed Iran is a nutjob.
“Could it be that Ron Paul is right about..... the Constitution,...”
NO! I’m sick of that crappola about that nut. Ron Paul trashes the heart of the United States Constitution.
The main objective of the Constitution is to “provide for the common defense”. Gutting the military, ignoring the nuke aims of terrorist nations, praising traitors, closing all US foreign bases and isolationist hiding destroys the US national defense.
The second main objective is to “promote the general welfare”. If that crackpot believes that releasing dope into the streets, destroying tens of millions of additional lives, families, neighborhoods and harming US productivity “promotes the general welfare” he is NUTS!
If he’s such a sage, it might have been helpful if he could predict his own showing in the 2012 primaries. Just sayin...
Exactly.
It is very reveling how the neocons have to lie, lie, lie about Ron Paul in their attempt to marginalize him. Ron Paul IS a Constitutional conservative. His record speaks for itself.
Ron Paul trashes the heart of the United States Constitution!
How small would coins have to be today? With gold and silver traded on the world market, the prices swing wildly. You would have no idea what a dollar might be worth tomorrow.
How does the little moron plan to raise GDP, mine more gold?
His 1820 brain can't grasp reality in a 2012 world.
Some seem to think if we just elect the right leader, we can turn this ship around.
I’m not so sure anymore.
Wow Ron Paul never served in our armed forces, how does he get away with that lie? /s
He was a flight surgeon in the Air Force so he did serve but not the way he wants to tell it.
You apparently have no problem with Ron Paul praising traitors, creating decades of vile newsletters and then lying about them, supporting the Occupy parasites, appearing on whacko conspiracy nut shows and then pander to those kooks, saying that there was “glee” in the Bush White House after 9/11, gutting the military, thinking it is OK for Iran and terrorists to get nukes, backstabbing Israel, being backed by some of the most vile racist organizations, partnering with Barney Frank and George Soros, being a truther nutcase?
“He’s also a liar. In 1963, when Ron Paul entered into military service, he could not have been drafted.”
EXACTLY! That is what I thought too. But, as those who have studied the candidates know, he has shown himself to be a liar before.
The gold standard is a lovely idea in theory.
In practice it would put the amount of monetary expansion at the utter mercy of new gold strikes, and whether someone develops an inexpensive way of transmuting lead to gold or of extracting gold from seawater.
Unfriendly governments, such as Rissia, controlling gold supplies would be put in the present position of OPEC, able to damage our economy by releasing gold, or not.
In the absence of sufficient gold being mined to keep up with economic expansion, we would get deflation, which is at least as damaging as inflation.
Ron Paul supporters said that he did receive a draft notice for the Army and was given a choice of that or being commissioned into the Air force as a surgeon. Ok let's take this statement at face value.
What this really means is that Ron Paul in order to evade going into the Army, chose instead the Air Force.
Understand that during the period of the draft, the Air Force like the Coast Guard was considered a much softer and safer alternative to the Army.
More interestingly, in 1965 just as the Vietnam War was getting serious, Ron Paul left active duty and spent the rest of his career in the Air National Guard.
Then in 1968, when the Vietnam War was at its height, Ron Paul resigned his commission and left the service.
Looking at the above events, it could be argued that Ron Paul was actively trying to evade being sent to Vietnam.
He knew that being in the Air National Guard would protect him from going to Vietnam.
And when things started heating up and he could potentially be sent to Vietnam, he resigned.
So if Ron Paul is implying Gingrich was a coward by seeking a deferment, it can easily be implied that Paul was "gaming" the system to avoid being sent to Vietnam.
Even the Devil knows every word in the Bible but that doesn’t make him a Christian.
Repeatedly claiming someone is a Constitutionalist,Conservative, or even Republican doesn’t make it so.
Even our current Resident in the WH is supposedly a Constitutional Scholar?
Ron Paul is my congressman and I resent all the lies being told about him. And all the mischaracterizations of his positions. Do I agree with him 100%, no of course not. I just don’t like the lies.
This should be screamed from the highest mountain peak. Ron Paul is a flat out liar.
Paul is no conservative.
Yes he did. He performed surgery while flying in airplanes.
You’ll find the most chilling part at 5:52, if you’re quick enough with the pause button.
Would you like to debate any of the facts I have presented above about your nutcase congressman?
The value can drop 10-15% in a week. How the hell would a MFG know how to price his goods? Many products have over a year of lead time and a rather small unit product margin.
Ron Paul is a raving lunatic.
Correct. Ron Paul is NOT conservative, NOT Tea Party and NOT GOP. He is a libertarian who is not welcome anywhere so he has decided, with the help of Democrats, tinfoil hats, and Soros, to crash the GOP primaries with his kook fringe crappola.
Ron Paul is the streetcorner crazy who people cross the street to avoid.
I noticed that the paul bashing Glenn Beck is no longer on the air in the Houston market. Maybe Beck needs to ponder that.
All those things have been said by many, many Conservatives. Nothing is really special about what Paul says in this other than it doesn't include a lot of what he predicted that didn't come true. (tracking chips in your currency for example).
I don’t claim to be an economist, but I assume if gold were monetized it would tend to damp price swings.
But maybe it would make them worse. Don’t know.
History of full of people who were both Brilliant and Crazy...
My dad joined the Air Force specifically so he wouldn't be drafted in the Army (he was more technical and linguistics minded vs a grunt). Funny thing is he was 'loaned' out to the Army as a radio operator so he was right along side them.
So you’re still ignoring the many, many important things he got right in that speech. Ignorance is nothing to be proud of.
Crazy, damn, I thought he was just your common ordinary old nut.
Ron Paul was being disingenuous when he accused Newt of evading the draft and stated he was drafted which was an out and out lie. Doesn’t matter that he served or not. His nation didn’t ask him to do anything - he was evading the draft by joining the air guard. He’s a fraud.
Ron Paul’s not crazy. Pon Paul’s not conservative. Ron Paul is not a true Republican. Ron Paul is an evil, bigoted, anti-semitic little troll. He’s a liar and a hypocrite as well.
On the contrary. A single commodity currency would result in easier manipulation and continued price swings. For us it may be currency, but to other countries that actually have a pretty large gold production operation, it is just a commodity. Let's take South Africa (a very large gold producer for example). Knowing that our currency is based off gold and we get a lot of it from them, they can hold supply or dump supply on the market at their whims in order to get the price or demand they want. They could hold off supplying the market for a long time, resulting in less supply for greater demand (ie higher prices). Then, sell a lot to the market at once at these higher prices- lining their market and 'popping the bubble' causing the price to fall. Now imagine these games with every major gold supplier? There is a reason no major country ever has been able to keep a single-commodity based currency.
The only way it could be practical and secure is to first highly ramp up our domestic mining operations to where we can control the market more.
LOL the video link is bad.
