Romney's running mate? It could be Christie or Santorum
The Philadelphia Inquirer ^ | January 9, 2011 | Thomas FItzgerald

Christie is leaving the door open. "If Gov. Romney comes to me and wants to have a talk about that, we'll have a full conversation about that and then Mary Pat and I will make that decision about what we want to do with our future," Christie said in a Fox News interview before Christmas. "But my view is, I think if you fast-forward the tape to a year from now, I think it's going to be President-elect Romney and some other VP-elect - and Chris Christie, the governor of New Jersey."

Christie repeatedly has said he would not be a good second fiddle. "Do I look like somebody's vice president?" he said at one point.

Another name very much in the mix: Florida's junior senator, Marco Rubio, a charismatic Cuban American with nine years in the state legislature on his resumé, including a term as speaker of the Florida House, and strong support from tea party activists. Presumably Rubio, 40, could help carry Florida, which will be as pivotal as ever, and also appeal to Latino voters, the nation's fastest-growing minority group, which has been drifting to the Democrats in a big way in recent years.

But here's a Pennsylvania angle on the veepstakes: Some handicappers even think Rick Santorum might be a good No. 2.

The former Pennsylvania senator has right-wing street credibility and is strong among evangelical Christians and other social-issues conservatives - important parts of the GOP coalition. As the grandson of an immigrant coal miner, Santorum also is a Northeasterner with a working-class sensibility (Did you hear him from Iowa on Tuesday night, describing his grandfather's hands?). Pennsylvania is a swing state, and, until his landslide loss to Bob Casey in 2006, Santorum had demonstrated strong appeal to economically stressed but culturally conservative whites

They’ll pick a conservative to make us vote for him like we voted for Sarah 4 years ago. No, thanks, sez the cat!

>>>I’d likely hold my nose and vote Republican if there were a conservative on the ticket with Romney. If they try to foist two RINOs on us, I just won’t be able to do it.

It will be just like last time with McNutly/Palin... Sorry, but I’m NEVER going to hold my nose like that ever again.

Then you may as well cast your vote for Obama. And don’t complain about it for the next four years either!

I am going out on a limb and saying Romney is done..toast..finished.
Christy, who looks kind of like my reclusive aunt, is going nowhere soon.
Huntsman is going to have his moment in the sun in NH where he breaks single digits and then he sputters out.

Well, it’s going to be Christie, because Bill O’Reilly said so tonight. So that’s it, unless you’re a pinhead ;-)

They’re pushing the grim scenario but this is the first primary and I think there’s more than enough time to stop Romney.

On a positive note, just saw Santorum on Hannity and was very impressed. He was my Senator for years but he seems a little more grounded, wiser maybe. I could really rally around him if he’s the nominee.

I had to laugh today when the White House put out that Daley didn't really work well with the rest of the Obama establishment/staff and was too quiet [of course they were quick to spin it that way]; and thought to myself perhaps Daly came to realize he was in the Land of Idiots and left to go back to his Land of Lincoln; as all the other President's men [and women] only follow their marching orders. Daley would fit in better with Emanuel back in Chi-town and be much happier.

I find myself hoping that Huntsman does well in New Hampshire. While he’s far from my first choice, I’d prefer him to Romney.

Personally, I’m still hoping the GOP nominee will be Anyone but Romney, at this point. :-)

No way Mitt picks Christie...2 NE moderates? FAIL.

Not sure Mitt would pick Santorum either....2 NE candidates, neither of which are even guaranteed to win their own respective states? Don’t see it.

Don’t see Perry playing second fiddle to Mitt, Newt neither. I agree with the opinions about a southern moderation to a Mitt ticket, and female wouldn’t hurt either. Rubio would be insane to hook up with Mitt at this point too, so count him out.

Haley of SC? Very possible....what about Haley Barbour of MS? J.C. Watts? Nah....

Should be interesting.

Of course, if all the Non-Mitts and Non-Pauls running right now got together and selected one amongst them to be POTUS and one to be VP they’d instantly put Mitt and Paul in their place...which is a LOSER in the primaries.

Sorry, not buying it. I am not a believe in ABO- it is not a winning strategy, period. And the GOP is counting on desperate conservatives to vote for the most ridiculous candidate they can push.
