Israel is preparing for an Iran with nuclear capabilities within the next 12 months, according to a report by the Institute for National Security Studies (INSS), an Israeli think tank.
The U.K. daily Times newspaper published extracts of the report by the Tel Aviv University institute on Monday, according to an AFP report.
The INSS was asked to prepare possible scenarios in case Iran carries out nuclear weapons tests by security, intelligence and diplomatic officials, AFP reported the Times as saying.

If I were running Iran... I’d make lots of noise right up until about Sept 2012 and then I’d have October surprise “peace talks” just in time to re-elect the unicorn fraud. And right after election day of course I’d proceed with the original plan. Is war-weary America stupid enough to fall for a “Peace in our time” moment? I think so and I’ll bet Iran does too.

Not that I don’t think the missle/missle defense is a bad idea, but I wonder with as small as Israel is, if it wouldn’t also be prudent for them to develop a ground based laser system (or even some on large mobile military vehicle) akin to the one we developed. That way they could feasibly have several shots to shoot it down along it’s trajectory. I don’t know much about that though, but it’s just an idea I had. Maybe it would ever look like a fiery, cloudy pillar, you know.
Isn’t Israel in a 7 year (NATO, I believe) peace treaty now, that is about to expire. Someone once said that last year, I think I remember reading, but I’m not sure. But I know you’re very keen on those types of things.
The scary thing is there’s a nut in Iran who actually believes that some magic madji is gonna rise up out of a well once enough chaos is created.
I’m starting to miss the soviets - yes, they were our enemies and were dangerous, but they were not mentally unstable religious lunatics like Amadinejad & Co.
Of course Hussein has his fingers in the mix. I’m still not confident he’ll not have his own little surprise along about springtime. It won’t be pretty.
Iran will conduct its first nuclear-weapons “test” over (or in) an Israeli city. There will be no “mysterious explosion” far out at sea.
Iran can’t afford to let the world know it has nukes until it already has them, due to the backlash.
And yes, 2012 will be a very interesting year.
