Capitol Report: Dems asking recall signature gatherers to wrap it up

With the Jan. 17 deadline fast approaching for opponents of Republican Gov. Scott Walker to turn in petitions aimed at triggering a recall election, the Wisconsin Democratic Party is encouraging signature gatherers to wrap it up.

"We don't want people holding on to petitions until the last minute," says Graeme Zielinski, spokesman with the Wisconsin Democratic Party. "So if you have them, turn them in. Don't hoard them."

Zielinski says the party has imposed several "internal deadlines" for people to sign and to turn in petitions. He says the party is asking the petitions to be mailed in no later than noon Tuesday (today). The address to send petitions is: P.O. Box 2569, Madison, Wis., 53701.

The party is asking that anyone still interested in signing a petition do so by noon Friday. Petitions being delivered in person should be brought to 6602 Normandy Lane in Madison no later than noon Monday.

Democratic Party officials have not given an update on the number of signatures collected since Dec. 15. At that time, 507,000 of the necessary 540,208 signatures to trigger a recall election had been gathered.

Democratic Party Chairman Mike Tate said they were on track to collect roughly 720,000 signatures and no additional updates will be given until the signatures are turned in to the Wisconsin Government Accountability Board on Jan. 17.

Tate did not provide details on the number of signatures gathered toward a recall of Lt. Gov. Rebecca Kleefisch, but says enough will be turned in to trigger an election. Like for Walker, 540,208 signatures must be collected to recall Kleefisch.

This may be the most important election in the country this year.

No problem. At the last minute, they'll just find a stack of petitions with enough signatures in the trunk of somebody's car.

We’re dealing with commie union thugs. They’ll have the needed number of “signatures” even if they have to pay the “gatherers” to fill out the pages themselves.

Yes you libtards, just go through the phone book and fill in whatever names you need to, then turn them over.

There is going to be so much corruption in this signature process. GAB is being made to deal with it but they are kicking and screaming about having to. Probably won’t do very well.

We should have had supporters of the governor volunteer to collect signatures. Then they could collect them and not turn them in.

That’s what I’m hoping — not enough signatures.

With the Jan. 17 deadline fast approaching for opponents of Republican Gov. Scott Walker to turn in petitions aimed at triggering a recall election, the Wisconsin Democratic Party<\b> is encouraging signature gatherers to wrap it up.

Anyone find it odd that a political party is involved in attempting to overturn the results of an election? After dumping all of this poison into the well, what do they expect we will do the next time they win an election?

When a recall was launched against Milwaukee County Executive F. Thomas Ament, Milwaukee County Board Chairman Karen Ordinans, Milwaukee County Supervisors Kathleen Arciszewski, David Jasenski, LeAnn Launstein, James McGuigan, Penny Podell, and Linda Ryan over the pension scandal, it wasn't launched and run by the Republican Party of Wisconsin.

Maybe we should pepper that mail box with big manila envelopes, stuffed with folded newspapers :-)

LOLOL! Well, since they have deemed it illegal to submit bogus petitions, please wear rubber gloves before you pull your prank. You’d be jailed for mailing in those newspapers, but they can turn in thousands of Mickey Mouse and Hitler signatures and the GAB will look the other way.
