MANCHESTER, N.H.--Mitt Romney won the New Hampshire primary Tuesday, the second state in a row he has carried in his campaign for the 2012 Republican presidential nomination.
Romney is the first Republican, not including incumbent presidents, to win both the Iowa caucuses and the New Hampshire primary since Iowa Republicans began holding their first-in-the-nation caucuses in 1976.
Ron Paul came in second; Jon Huntsman in third.
It was a start-to-finish victory for Romney in New Hampshire, who led in the polls here throughout the 2012 campaign. Romney owns a summer home in the state, which borders his home state of Massachusetts, where he served as governor from 2003 to 2007.
From here, the candidates go on to South Carolina, the first primary in the South. There, Romney's electoral dominance will not be a such a foregone conclusion....

Okay, okay... I've been poking fun at the Perrybots long enough about being right about every prediction I made on Rick Perry thus far. But now I'm gonna have to confess I was wrong here when I told the Perrybots if they keep calling people "haters" and "bigots" they'll be a two-way race with Jon Huntsman.
Nope, it's a two-way race between La Raza Rick and Buddy! ;-)

If Mitt Romney doesn't get stopped in South Carolina, we're in major trouble. It seems clear that Rick Perry, Newt Gingrich, and Rick Santorum are all hoping South Carolina will make them the anti-Romney standard-bearer.
That may still happen.
If it doesn't, we're looking at a likely Romney win in Florida, with the momentum moving toward a Super Tuesday that could make it difficult if not impossible to stop him.
It is no secret that I have major concerns about all three of the remaining “not-Romneys.” However, I have much greater concerns about the split vote between the three getting Romney nominated and then defeated by President Obama.
We need to deal with this mess.
NOW.
Next week (the SC vote) may not be too late. Next month may very well be.

I do believe Perry needs to stay in the race at least as a placeholder ... just in case the other candidates happen to kill each other ... we’d still have a viable candidate.

Dos anyone else think Huntsmann is a stalking horse for the Obama administration? He is only there to throw mud at Romney and Paul. Huntsmann worked for Obama in China, he is probably working for Obama in the GOP. Huntsmann got Dem machine operative votes and NPR-listening useful idiot 0bot votes in NH.
Yup. Almost exactly the same scenario as last time around playing out.
For all the talk about the “establishment” rigging the contest, I´d put more of the blame on “ego” on the part of the non-moderate candidates who carry on and split the conservative vote, despite having small chances for actually winning the nomination.
It´s not strange that conservatives are more numerous than moderates in the GOP primaries, but a quirk of that phenomena is that it gives the moderate wing a strategic advantage, as their vote is less divided.
Perry did NOT campaign in NH AND FINISHED ALMOST DEAD LAST.
However, Perry DID campaign in Iowa-—AND FINISHED ALMOST DEAD LAST.
——Perry spent the most money-$6 million,
——ran around in two campaign buses,
——held numerous campaign events,
——glad-handed thousands of Iowans,
——ran non-stop ads touting his conservative credentials,
——trucked in 1000 Texans for groundwork,
——campaigned with California legislators and other high-level supporters
——AND FINISHED ALMOST DEAD LAST.
C’mon, Liz. Perry’s the only one left with a southern accent - that’s what he’s counting on for SC and FL.
Precisely why Perry was wise not to waste his time here...conservatives are not welcome here, and they are moving away.
Apparently NH was a waste of time for conservatives. It’s gone socialist like the rest of yankeeland. Sad for resident conservatives who have deal with this daily.
it is time for this primary season crap to end.
lets get a US constitutional amendment to have all state, US Presidential selection votes (primaries/caucus/magic 8 ball, whatever), occur on the same day.
I am sick of tired of having the vote come to my state with the candidate already picked(for the most part). This ticks me off every election cycle.

Well, it’s obviously over.
agreed, except that he didn’t run there. He should do better than 1% without stepping foot, no doubt. That said, he’s focused on SC. If his numbers stick around 5% this week in SC...a place where he should be able to do well....it is time to head back home.
