WASHINGTON (AP) — The most detailed data yet on emissions of heat-trapping gases show that U.S. power plants are responsible for the bulk of the pollution blamed for global warming.
Power plants released 72 percent of the greenhouse gases reported to the Environmental Protection Agency for 2010, according to information released Wednesday that was the first catalog of global warming pollution by facility. The data include more than 6,700 of the largest industrial sources of greenhouse gases, or about 80 percent of total U.S. emissions.
According to an Associated Press analysis of the data, 20 mostly coal-fired power plants in 15 states account for the top-releasing facilities.
Gina McCarthy, the top air official at the EPA, said the database marked "a major milestone" in the agency's work to address climate change. She said it would help industry, states and the federal government identify ways to reduce greenhouse gases.
The Obama administration plans to regulate emissions of heat-trapping gases under existing law. A proposed regulation to address pollution from new power plants could be released as early as this month. Eventually, the EPA will have to tackle facilities already in operation. The largest emitters will be the first in line.
The largest greenhouse gas polluter in the nation in 2010, according to the EPA's data, was the Scherer power plant in Juliette, Ga., owned by Southern Company. That coal-fired power plant reported releasing nearly 23 million metric tons of carbon dioxide, the chief greenhouse gas, in 2010.

I think they should just abolish all power plants, motor vehicles and anything else that runs on any power other than solar.

I bet nobody on the left took Obama seriously when he said “energy prices would necessarily skyrocket”, but I also bet nobody predicted that this idiocy would potentially cause rolling blackouts as well...
What happens to energy investors, when energy prices go up? Where do the primary incomes of most energy investors come from? Think about it. In my area, most of the investors in both local kinds of energy are former or current professionals with incomes from government.
Now think about who most of the influential constituents in politics are.

There is a trick to lowering your heating bills in the summer,
unfortunately, it IS a contributor to greenhouse gas emissions.

Watering your roof to evaporatively cool your roof, attic, and subsequently your home.

My opinion differs. I think he's playing to his base, the "skulls full of mush" Left. He's had several revolts from his own Left, giving him hell because he hasn't implemented environmental restrictions fast enough.
He and his backers (Soros, et al) figure young Americans have been sufficiently brainwashed and dumbed-down to vote to re-elect him. The OWS robots are examples but there are millions more on college campuses and in activist groups with no idea of how America works or became successful.
Republicans will do Obama an enormous favor if they nominate Romney, the 1% silver spoon multi-millionaire. Central casting could not select a better opponent in the class warfare propaganda struggle to come.

Maybe the thing to do would be to allow US power plants to upgrade their facilities in stages, rather than requiring them to completely conform to current codes the moment they make an improvement?

Global Warming on Free Republic
The EPA and IRS must be abolished. That is for starters. Then abolish other government agencies. Government agencies are socialism which never works as this EPA proves. This EPA is shutting down power plants , etc. our economy for a lie called global warming.
