Jerry Sandusky reportedly watched Joe Paterno notch his record 409th victory from the president's box a week before the former Penn State assistant football coach was arrested on charges of child sex abuse in November.

A source close to the university's board of trustees told The Patriot-News on Wednesday that Sandusky, 67, was seen in then-president Graham Spanier's box on Oct. 29 and later went to Penn State's Nittany Lion booster club.

Earlier Wednesday, former Nittany Lions linebacker Brandon Short told the newspaper he had been told by two independent sources -- whom he did not identify -- that Sandusky was in Spanier's box for the Penn State-Illinois game.

The unidentified source also told The Patriot-News that the school's athletic director at the time originally did not want to give Sandusky tickets to the game, but Sandusky’s wife, Dottie, was so insistent that he eventually relented.

I remain convinced that the prosecution of this entire Sandusky episode was put on hold UNTIL Coach Paterno got that record-setting win.

That "record" was nothing significant. If any records were worth putting off the prosecution for breaking, they would be passing up Bear Bryant and then Bobby Bowden for most FBS victories or winning 400 games.

he's beginning to look like a scapegoat in some minor way. The entire Board may need to go.

You're on to something there.

You’re one of the few people who get who is really to blame in this whole mess.

You’d think that posters on a conservative site might look towards the perversion-friendly president and his BOT buddies. Instead, they go along with the mainstream media story. Strange and disappointing.

The children in those Hershey Childrens’ Home were troubled and at risk youth. Vulnerable and ignored. Very sad. From the looks of that face they showed....scary.

From what I heard, JoPa was only a figurehead, long ago was too old to actually coach and run the team. That is a joke that he won anything.

Thank you. Is it true that Spanier is still on the payroll as a teacher?

Hegewisch Dupa:

I take it that you have no problem with Lavender Encouraging Spanier STILL being on the payroll.

Someone suggested that has to do with tenure. He is a sociology professor if he is still there. Do you think that being the ringleader of Penn State University's "gay friendly" transition as its president that he has acted to such a degree of moral turpitude as to deserve to have his tenure revoked and to be fired and banished from the university?

Do you think that Sandusky being at least bisexual if not outright gay and marrying his childless wife as a cover for that little problem has something to do with this? Is his long-time wife still a virgin (at least as to her relations with Jerry?) or did he make a few attempts before turning to ten-year-old boys?

Knowing that Joe Paterno reported this situation early on to the CIVILIAN university big shot who was a Spanier subordinate, not a sworn police officer himself but in charge of university police (Keystone Kops) who were sworn officers, was JoPa supposed to make a citizen's arrest? Did he personally WITNESS misbehavior? If so, provide details. Do the university administrators who have charge of the university police have obligations when JoPa reported to them the rumors he had heard of criminal rape of young boys but which not personally witnessed?

Don't depend on McQueary because he apparently has multiple stories depending on the identity and authority of the listener.

Should ANY university have its own police department made up of sworn police officers with arrest powers? Doesn't that encourage the campus police to play CYA for university administrators who provide their squad cars, their radios and daily bread? How actively do such marionettes investigate drug dealing on campus or criminal sexual behavior or binge drinking by minors or other crimes that may sully the school's image or embarrass university officials? It happens all the time in similar circumstances at Yale and the University of Connecticut and probably each and every campus with its own captive police department.

One reform needed in the wake of this scandal is to abolish university controlled police departments at Penn State and wherever they may be found. Universities and colleges ought not be sanctuaries for criminal behavior considered no big deal by libertoonian fantasists and left-wing activists who might, Heaven forfend!, protest arrests.

I am still awaiting any evidence whatsoever that Joe Paterno is a perp here. I am older than I once imagined myself getting to be, old enough to collect Social Security. Joe Paterno is twenty years older than I. He graduated a Jesuit prep school in Brooklyn in about 1944 way back when the Jesuits were still REALLY Catholic and were called God's Marines. Years like 1944 were a different world. He was a working class Italian American kid from the all-American Brooklyn of the time. When Joe Paterno was a kid, no one among the kids would have reported child abuse to the cops. Instead, in Brooklyn, they would have chased the perp into a neighborhood alley way and given him the beating of his life and saw to it that he left the area permanently lest they finish the job. Paterno did well enough to be admitted to elitist Brown University, an Ivy, and then, to his father's dismay, became a football coach. By all accounts, Joe Paterno was a pretty effective football coach for a very long time. His father would, by now, have changed his mind in favor of Paterno's career choice.

Anal rape of ten-year old boys, thank God, has never been a part of my world. The closest was a scoutmaster who was a cop who was forced to retire as a cop and to leave Connecticut, the state where I grew up, because he had apparently misbehaved as a closet gay with a scout or scouts. No one fired the mayor, the local alderman, the neighborhood delicatessen owner or restauranteur, the police chief, the shift commander or the other scout leaders who, I can assure you, had no use for such behavior and were likely those who complained to higher authority about the cop.

Be honest now, unless you live near Center County, Pennsylvania or are an alumnus/a, before this scandal, could you name one person permanently employed at Penn State in any capacity whatsoever OTHER than the justly famous and well-regarded Joe Paterno? I couldn't and I'll bet that most FReepers couldn't. Joe Paterno is the celebrity scapegoat at a gummint university who was fired to distract public attention from the professional demise of Spanier, the man who promised, as president of the university, to make it the most "gay friendly" campus in America. That, under the despicably immoral and amoral "modern" circumstances, was quite a challenge he gave himself but he had about 15 years to make it a reality. He was not likely to tolerate any actions by subordinates deemed anti-"gay." The Sandusky scandal is a natural result of Spanier's rule of the university. Many trustees are probably his simuilarly perversion-friendly buddies or practitioners of those perversions, perhaps of Sandusky's particular variation of same.

Joe Paterno is an elderly gentleman and distinguished figure whom many Americans without Penn State connections actually care about. I am one. OTOH, if Spanier, whoever was in charge of campus police, "investigating" officers, trustees, McQueary, and anyone else who had general authority at the university and facilitated Sandusky by covering his criminal perversions, were burned at the stake collectively on national television after a few weeks of appropriate inquiry under physical, ummm, chastisement preferably by Sandusky's victims, the name for that would be justice. Unfortunately, such remedies are no longer allowed because the law will get in the way. Life in non-country club Pennsylvania prisons without parole and left to the tender ministrations of normal prisoners will give them a lifetime taste of their own medicine. Those prisoners may be murderers, armed robbers, even rapists of adults but most have in common a deep loathing for rapists of children. Guards will probably find themselves tooooo busy to interfere.

Time to stop scapegoating Joe Paterno and to focus on the lavender empowering "enlightened" culterati perps and cover-up artists responsible for the systematic rape of innocent children.

If you have any interest in just how widespread this problem of child rape truly is, I recommend to you a book called the Franklin Coverup about what appeared to be an even worse situation in Omaha, Nebraska (of all places) involving judges, police officials, public figures, juvenile authorities, FBI personnel and many others who were not investigating because they were the PERPS. The book was written by a state senator charged with investigating who left public life at an early age convinced he would be killed by the perps if he did not. The kids IIRC had already been forced to kill each other with shotguns as the perps watched and enjoyed that.

Joe Paterno's reputation has been permanently trashed to facilitate the leniency resulting from purposeful ignoring of those actually responsible. Paterno was the biggest man on campus. He was fed to the wolves to protect the lily-livered, limp-wristed child-abusing sissies and their academic spin artists.

Just one man's opinion.

From the information I have seen (there is so much conflicting information floating around), Spanier is still a tenured faculty member.

If you have the time and care enough, here is a long but good read about how the Board of Trustees works at Penn State:

Very good post. Let's not forget that Spanier had long wanted Paterno out.

Do you think that being the ringleader of Penn State University's "gay friendly" transition as its president that he has acted to such a degree of moral turpitude as to deserve to have his tenure revoked and to be fired and banished from the university?

A better question is why was he hired to run the university in the first place?

The one's who made that decision knew what his agenda was.
