Gingrich Decries 'Backdoor Socialism'
Fox ^ | 1-12-12 | LYN

Posted on 01/12/2012 4:31:45 PM PST by VinL

Gingrich returned to the stump Thursday with a heavy dose of populism and defended himself against charges of being anti-capitalist and anti-free enterprise.

"I think when you have crony capitalism of politicians taking care of their friends, that's not free enterprise, that's just backdoor socialism in which the rich get all the money and the rest of us get left, get left with all the debt," Gingrich told an audience of senior citizens gathered at the state fair grounds for a convention.

Gingrich said he's been "amazed" by the intensity of critics who he said are attacking him for questioning the bailout of big banks. He suggested the bailouts were tied to corruption at the Federal Reserve and the Treasury.

"American people have a right to know what has been happening to their economy, and they have a right to know where all the money went, they deserve an audit on the Federal Reserve, and the Treasury, to find out where the money went, to find out who got the money and why they got the money," said Gingrich to wide applause.

But it's not Mr. Gingrich's questions about bank bailouts that are raising eyebrows among prominent conservative voices, it's his questions about Mitt Romney's record at Bain Capital. And while Gingrich would later tell reporters he was referring specifically to the bailouts of AIG and Goldman Sachs when he criticized "back door socialism," the candidate made a point to tell seniors that it wasn't just financial institutions that need to be more transparent but also presidential candidates as well.

Wish I had seen that, it must have been amazing to watch the stunned hosts. I don’t watch fox any longer.

I saw that too. He dominated that little exchange with Bolling. It was memorable for sure. Newt is the man.

So says the pot-bellied socialist who pocketed millions from Fannie/Freddie.

I hope he keeps it up though, as he is forever damaging Romneycare.

And in the end, it will leave Santorum as the only viable conservative.

Mitt bought up some companies and and as soon as the stocks increase, he dumps them, making tons of profits

Isn't that the goal?

You are putting me in the unenviable position of defending Mitt Romney, but this whole line of attack by Newt and Perry is just silly.

He is more than an historian. Newt advised them not to do the bail outs. He says that he was paid much lower amount than what Romney claims in the ads. I rather support Newt than Romney and his fishy business practices. It worries me more of how Mitt knew when to dump those companies/crush the jobs and walk away with millions then do it again and again. Sorry, don’t trust him on that and on his flip flopping ways.

IIRC we are only talking about FMac and they were technically privately held at the time.

Regardless it’s apples and bowling balls compared to Romney.

"If there is a quintessential country club Establishment Republican- it’s Romney—— it’s either idiocy, audacity, or throwing the election-— maybe all."

Krauthammer just pointed out Bain is dinging Romney good in a Red state like S Carolina he will have real problems in a general.

No, I am not like that. I see no one else at this time to stop Mitt. Not making excuses nor do I want to be in the group who doesn’t have half of the outlook as Newt does.

"I think when you have crony capitalism of politicians taking care of their friends, that's not free enterprise, that's just backdoor socialism in which the rich get all the money and the rest of us get left, get left with all the debt,"

Again, for such a bright guy, there's the problem, using Rat, Marxist, OWS talking point words.

Newt is smart enough to have said: "I think when you have the Fascism of politicians taking care of their friends, that's not free enterprise, that's just backdoor socialism in which government selected insiders get all the money and the rest of us get left, get left with all the debt,"

More accurately identifying the problem, and not trashing all "capitalists" and "rich". Few average citizens understand that "crony capitalism" is not capitalism at all.

Interestingly, Newt can be classified as "capitalist", "rich", an "insider" and a "crony capitalist" (FM consulting). He could not, on the other hand, be successfully classified as Fascist, excluding himself from a properly worded comment.

LOL. Yeah. Santorum was at zero in the polls in IA and basically won. He was at zero in the polls in NH when he rolled in there with no advertising and no money and beat Newt. Lets see how people actually vote in SC. SC is not a populism loving state. That is what Newt is selling down there. Lets see how that comes out in the wash.

Thanks, Moe, because the media is telling me that it’s not working. But logic suggests, that if it wasn’t working— we would not have all the bleatings from the GOP insiders who make their fortunes in the GOP corporation.

Bang the drum, Newt. Sarah it’s your time!

Repeating the same misinformation does not help the conservative cause. Newt made about 30,000 a year from Fm/Fm. And yes it was for the consultation. So what do you have against him making money? Thought you were a capitalist?

Thanks for the heads up. I will view that and hope for the same.

In the meanwhile I will just go back and read your delicious comments of what he did. It will take a long time for the grin to go away. lol

This is exactly why the RINOs do not want Newt to be President. It would spoiling them controlling the money in Washington DC and directing it to their pals. Sarah Palin calls it “crony capitalism”. Rush has been talking about this lately. This is exactly why Newt has to be taken out by the establishment. Newt is the man for our times. GO NEWT!

Folks you need to wake up as to what is going on.

I think we all kinda need to hope Newt does well because if he cannot, Rick S. surely cannot do well there in the general since it’s jobs/economy first issues in that state/not family values.
