Unhook The Chain
January 13, 2012
Jesus made it clear to His disciples that He is the way, the truth, and the life (John 14:6). He is the only way to the Father, and our belief and commitment to Him results in love and obedienceand leads to an eternal home in heaven.
Christina, a Bible student in Minsk, Belarus, wrote this testimony: Jesus died for everyone, even the most desperate sinner. The worst criminal who comes to Him in faith, the Lord will accept.
For a very long time, Jesus had been knocking at my door. Figuratively speaking, the door to my heart was open. I was a believer. But I kept the safety chain in place. I would not turn my life over to Him.
Christina knew this was not right, and she felt that God was compelling her to make a change. I knelt before Him and opened the door as wide as I could. She took off the chain.
Committed followers of Jesus will do what He commandswithout safety chains or back doors. No reserving little corners of our lives all for ourselves. No secret sins.
If, like Christina, youve been holding back from surrendering to God, its time to unhook that safety chain. Let go of those reservations. Throw open the doors of your life, and experience the joy of obedient discipleship.
Less of self and more of Jesus,
More and more each day like Thee;
Just to live in full surrender
For my Lord who ransomed me. Wonder
No life is more secure than a life surrendered to God.
Read: John 14:15-24

What a shocking and unexpected loss.
I was privileged to have known him.
He will be missed.
I called him earlier this year, on a whim. I don’t even remember what all we blabbered about.

For those who do not know LDO is a Limited Duty Officer.
This means that Chris was an enlisted man who worked his way up to LCDR. A “Mustang”.

Chris was hoping to make Commander before retirement, but it was not to be.
Still as a Lt Commander he was the highest ranking mustang that I called friend.
It’s a darn shame his retirement was so short. :(

Yes, He had one heck of a sense of humor!
Late on the night of the lobster/clam dinner, He shared his knowledge of “Ukrainian Bombers”.
That led to much hilarity, and we only drank like a 1/4 of the bottle, LOL Whoo boy!
Chris led a very interesting life from what I could gather.
He seemed to enjoy seeing the world “as it is”
I had a grand time yukking it up with him and we were both howling, because YOU were howling!

He will be missed.

REST IN PEACE, LCDR TONGUE-TIED, USN

Piper on Board USS Carl Vinson CVN-70
Amazing Grace
by John Newton
Amazing grace! How sweet the sound That saved a wretch like me! I once was lost, but now am found; Was blind, but now I see. . Twas grace that taught my heart to fear, . And grace my fears relieved; How precious did that grace appear The hour I first believed! . Through many dangers, toils and snares, I have already come; Tis grace hath brought me safe thus far, And grace will lead me home. . The Lord has promised good to me, His Word my hope secures; He will my Shield and Portion be, As long as life endures. . Yea, when this flesh and heart shall fail, And mortal life shall cease, I shall possess, within the veil, A life of joy and peace. . The earth shall soon dissolve like snow, The sun forbear to shine; But God, Who called me here below, Will be forever mine. . When weve been there ten thousand years, Bright shining as the sun, Weve no less days to sing Gods praise Than when wed first begun.

The fellow had a love of life, but was a gentleman.
I truly think he enjoyed seeing the world “as it is”
He seemed up to new stuff. Not reckless, just seemed like he enjoyed new “everyday stuff”.
I tend to be the same way. If I have the choice between fancy dinner at the place I have been to already, or dinner in another country with the locals, I tend to pick the latter for the new experience.
