How many candidates? Three? Four? His home state Senator Tsongas who also ran for President then, Lantos's son-in-law Swett, Doug Anderson, a friend who couldn't even win his party's primary, and John LaFalce? Well, that's bad, but it's not like he was a mainstay of the party, financially or ideologically.
Romney did help raise money for Anderson's primary run -- I'll give you that -- but Anderson was a personal friend. Anderson and Swett were both fellow Mormons and people Romney knew. There may be a problem there, but it's not quite the one that you imply. And LaFalce's pro-life record -- leader in Democrats for Life of America -- tends to belie the image of Romney as a passionate pro-abortionist.
Still, you haven't proven that he was an impassioned Democrat who was driven out of the Republican Party by a hatred for Reagan. What you have is still consistent with an independent voter, more Democrat than Republican perhaps, but not overwhelmingly so.
If you want to keep pushing Romney, then join me at a fresher thread, such as this one. http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2835467/posts
No thanks. I'm not going to defend everything Romney has ever said or done. I just think he deserves better than to become everybody's punching bag. He's certainly not better than the other candidates in the race, but not worse either.
If you want to hide out on this dead thread pushing Romney to yourself, go ahead, if you want to join the current conversations then just join in.
The discussions of the South Carolina primary would be a good place to see you show up.
