Just look at the Hairy Reed. The Senate is already controlled by Mormons.
“As for why Rush et al. are supporting Romney”
In Rush’s case I don’t think it began as support for Romney exactly - it’s actually an unintended side effect of Rush fighting Heresy against the Great Idol, Capitalism.
In this case Gingrich and Perry are Heretics, guilty of accusing Capitalism of being capable of possessing a sin nature. This, of course, is an outrage and an absurdity. To quote the great Rushbo himself, “Fairness? What is fairness?”.
Capitalism is by its very nature perfect and without blemish, and therefore Fair no matter what the outcome of any particular capitalistic act may be. Purchasing Worldwide Grinding Systems for $8 mil, loading it up with debt while paying yourself $12 mil, why that’s probably the Sacrament of equity extraction. And if you don’t believe me then you are a socialist, an anti-capitalist, and probably one who consorts with devils. Even a slick operator like Mitt can’t twist Capitalism into anything unethical. Amen.
Nothing ethical about his ads or the movie he bought
As you may or may not know, today Newt called about the Superpac to edit the inaccuracies in the film or take it down! He challenged Mr. Slick to do the same with his Superpac- but, of coure, Mr. Slick refused to comply.
Sounds like one of those made up pc lib words
With respect, that sounds like the propaganda of the Establishment GOP socialists.
I don’t think the discussion should be about Ethical Capitalism at all. In reality Romney took a low, but highly effective shot at Newt with his allegatiion about Newt making 1.6 million lobbying for Fannie Mae.
Romney follwed up in interviews with the “If you can’t take the heat...” bromide.
Newt decided NOT to lay down. Now Mitt is taking the heat and all of a sudden the conversation is how we Conservatives are disparaging Capitalism...B@$$&*#t!
Mitt is showing himself almost as low as Paul.
” He needs to go back and read James Burnhams book, the Managerial Revolution.”
I’ll bet you Rush’s last dollar that he’s never heard of the book.
You, however, are a troublemaker intent on bringing some intelligence to this joint. Knock it off.
Mitt is bound up by his faith. He is not Harvard...he is Mormon.
Don't we need to know what that means.
It means if he is a good mormon and does everything right, he will get a planet of his own. I'm not kidding.
Something like the abbreviation used for the lawyers of Morrison & Foerster?
Christie at the Beach, I would love to disagree with you- but I can’t bring myself to do it. I mispent my youth on the beach. :)
capitalism is ethical as long as you don’t have the involvement of the government in any way.
You got that right.
All this talk about “ethics” and whatnot is just crypto-Commie language for “slapping the shackles of socialism on business owners.”
Business owners have a moral duty to capitalism to pay their workers as little as they can and to cut as many corners in the production of their goods as possible, so as to maximise profits.
Anything less is just a bunch of commie lib redistributionism.
Amen! Well said!
I’d suggest Burnham’s “Suicide of the West” because that is what’s happening!
The only problem with your assessment is that the ads against Newt were true. The same cannot be said about the anti-Bain video.
Limbaugh is right.
Not in my view. Limbaugh has always had a blind spot on this issue. We all admire Rush because he lived the Amerian Dream going from nothing to icon and none of us envy the money he makes. He earned it. He didnt buy off DC politicians, or use insiders to destroy competitors- or use undue influence to maintain his preeminence.
But, Rush just doesnt seem to be able to grasp that the DC crowd, the Estblishment, have lived the Dream- and now are pulling up the draw bridge behindd them. McCain, Bush, Romney, et al- and the GOP elite- theyve made there fortunes- they have power and all they want to do is keep it. If the rest of us have to live in socialism they dont give a damn.
You sound like one of those crazy bible thumping religious fanatics who think that business owners should be hobbled by junk like paying their workers a "fair wage." A "fair wage" is however little the business owner can pay you and still get your lazy non-business owning rear end to show up. If you were worth anything, you own the business instead of working for it.
As in Newt bought? Really? LOL!!!
Michelle Malkin was a cheap shill for Willard the Lib in ‘08, too. She’s 110% RINO.
Read Adam Smith's “Theory of Moral Sentiments”!
A work that he thought was more important then “Wealth Of Nations”. I would say a knowledge of Smith is incomplete if one only reads “Wealth of Nations”. They must be read together as a set to understand the points Smith makes in both books.
Read these then judge Newt & Romney!
What about the ethics of sitting on Pelosis couch?
And because Newt did that, I’m supposed to vote for the quintessential Republican, country club elitist- who is pro-abortion, anti-gun, a proven liberal, and a card carrying member of the New New Order?
Oh really!...was Newt paid $1.6 million or $35,000.00 per month as he claims. Did he lobby or was he an advisor?
Once you open the can of worms, as Romney foolishly did, you will find that folks will not be interested in wading through the finer points and details of whether the anti-Bain video is true or not.
Point is...perception is reality for many, unfortunately.
Yesterday you were talking Volts, today Yugo's. You're quite the gearhead there aren't ya.....
Well, it may be Bible-thumping, but even thousands of years ago, in both Judaism and then in Christianity, employers were being urged to pay their employees an honest wage. What’s wrong with that?
But this has nothing to do with “fairness,” which now means that the government or some superior force has got to come in and equalize results. Most people don’t want to be the head of the company; it’s a lot of work, and most people just want to do their jobs and go home to their families. But the person who is the head of the company could not be the head of the company without them, and in fact there wouldn’t even be a company without them. Therefore he has the obligation to compensate them accordingly, which has nothing to do with fairness but is a simple matter of paying for a service.
When employers want to get the service without paying for it, or by taking so much for themselves that there is nothing left to pay the people who do the work, we have broken the social contract. That was what led to the rise of unions.
Newt quotes our Founding Fathers, and this fact is going to give the Dems ammunition. Then, that only underscores the extent of our problems in current day America.
Oh so you’re some kind of union socialist, eh?
Workers should be thankful to the business owners for the scraps they get away with stealing from the profits.
Mitt is absolutely right - if workers get in the way of shareholder profits, then send ‘em packing.
Gawd, I couldn’t read past the first few sentences of this navel-gazing drivel.
Kirsten Powers and Newt ought to team up to write the “Occupy Wall Street: the Broadway Play.”
The economic strength which built western civilization is not founded on greed alone.
It’s founded on the pursuit of earnings through hard work and tempered by the Christian moral code.
Not capitalism alone—capitalism along with Christianity.
Right! Exactly! It’s the referee.
"This disposition to admire, and almost to worship, the rich and the powerful, and to despise, or, at least, to neglect persons of poor and mean condition, though necessary both to establish and to maintain the distinction of ranks and the order of society, is, at the same time, the great and most universal cause of the corruption of our moral sentiments. That wealth and greatness are often regarded with the respect and admiration which are due only to wisdom and virtue; and that the contempt, of which vice and folly are the only proper objects, is often most unjustly bestowed upon poverty and weakness, has been the complaint of moralists in all ages."
“Ethical” is not a bad word, but using it, as Newt and Powers are, as a ruse for making the same kinds of anti-capitalist canards as the Left is disgusting.
Talk about attempting to clothe oneself in self-righteousness.
Ethical free enterprise is the very spirit of our Constitution.
Yeah yeah, more of that theocratic nonsense. Christianity had nothing to do with capitalism. What you call “greed” is merely logical business practice. Sheesh, haven’t any of you people read Ayn Rand?
Is there something unethical about capitalism such that it needs to be qualified by the word ethical?
Capitalism is like a vehicle or a gun, which have no ethics, good or bad. The guy controlling either one, on the other hand ...
Capitalism is ethical when the guy using it adheres to the "Christian system," as one of the Founder's put it.
John Quincy Adams said: "The law given from Sinai was a civil and municipal code as well as a moral and religious code ...."
Like everything else in human civilization, capitalism thrives when people adhere and adapt their behaviors to that Judeo-Christian code. Capitalism, like everything else in human civilization, decays and self-destructs when that code is ignored. It's just like evolution, which, far from being "survival of the most ruthless," actually comes down to: Adapt or perish.
In capitalism like everything else, we adapt to the word of God ... or perish, as countless barbarian, heathen civilizations have perished before now.
Damn, you’ve discovered my hidden identity. There’s no keeping anything from a genius of your abilities. I am humbled.
You know what I've never seen them in my office on Saturday night or Sunday morning trying to figure out how to make the cash flow work in the short term. The community loves to tax me at higher rates. A businessman's responsibility is to make the business profitable.
I agree with Newt. What we have witnessed, for decades now (and getting worse), it what is called GODLESS Capitalism.
The mentality is “what’s mine is mine.” Totally selfish and greedy.
No different than George Bush using the feelings word “compassionate.”
Whatever the intention, any time you see an emotion qualifier attached to a system of thought, you can be sure it is or will utilized for Lefty ends.
What I’m trying to explain to you is that the combination of both Christianity and free enterprise are the origin of the economic success of our society.
Most important is that without Christianity, free enterprise will fail.
You’re just jealous because you’re one of those dumb schmucks who isn’t smart or strong enough to own your own business. Rand warned us about people like you.
Is a man not entitled to the sweat of his brow?
“No!’ says the man in Washington, ‘It belongs to the poor.’
‘No!’ says the man in the Vatican, ‘It belongs to God.’
‘No!’ says the man in Moscow, ‘It belongs to everyone.’
I rejected those answers; instead, I chose something different.
The author is a liberal Democrat spouting populism. The following is from the populist big guy vs little guy imagery playbook. Expect to hear more of it coming from Democrats during the general election.
“Whatever happened to the idea that you are responsible for your workers and to the larger community? Too often, people feel like just pawns in a game of ever increasing largesse for the top dogs. The big shots are always the winners often getting payouts in the millions when their companies fail and the losers are left to figure out how to eat or buy clothes for their children.”
As I said, ethical capitalism is the spirit of our Constitution.
Whatever happened to the idea that you are responsible for your workers and to the larger community?
We are not talking about the average honest business person. We are talking about an oligarchy in DC, 535 fiefdoms, who do not engage in capitalism- they engage in a plutocracy to insure their perpetual power and wealth. Big difference.
An you, as an honorable business, exist solely at their mercy.
A liberal who even dated Anthony Weiner!
Why does no one seem concerned that Powers is leaping to Newt’s anti-capitalist defense here?
That should be a huge red (and I do mean RED) flag, not something to post smug “go Newt” smilies over.
Sure. You’re just trying to use your religious mumbo-jumbo to steal my wallet. All you social justice religious fanatic types are the same.
This populist garbage only leads to malinvestment. A business should be run to make a profit. If the labor force brings something to the table it's good business to pay them well enough that they don't leave for a better opportunity. The business is not a social welfare agency.
We have enough laws on the books to insure public safety in the products produced and labor laws to make sure no one is treated badly.
Gingrich in his rage against Romney has taken an unAmerican tack. If we want a socialist utopia we should go to Europe.
