It's been a busy month for Joseph Kennedy III.
The son of former U.S. Rep. Joseph P. Kennedy II and grandson of the late Robert F. Kennedy is engaged to be married to Lauren Anne Birchfield, a fellow Harvard Law School graduate.
The announcement comes a little more than a week after the 31-year-old Kennedy formed an exploratory committee as a first step toward a run for the U.S. House seat held by retiring Rep. Barney Frank.

My comment would have been meaningless without copying your wonderful rant. The Kennedy klan is such a target-rich environment but I personally am glad that Teddy the Swimmer is still dead. It’s said his Arlington grave is heavily guarded since Scotch fumes are expected to rise from it for years to come and it draws the homeless like flies.
But yeah, the Kennedys are prolific, political, and likely to be bothering the rest of us non-Massholes for a very long time. Thank goodness that not one single one of them is known for being a mental giant. In fact, poor Rosemary was probably the smartest among them (remember, she was lobotomized for rebellion against Rose, not for retardation).

in the “Talk” section of Wikipedia’s entry on Joe II—the
almost 60 yr old son of RFK—it says that Joe Jr’s death in
WW II resulted in RFK’s son moving up from being considered Joe III to being called Joe II; or, as I have thought, it may have to do with not being in a direct line. Joe II is the son of RFK, not the son of Joe Jr (who never lived to have kids IIRC). Similarly “Joe III” isn’t called Joe IV for that same
reason.

The Boston Archdiocese initially granted Kennedy the annulment, which was only discovered by Rauch after the decision in 1996. Rauch, who is an Episcopalian, wrote a book Shattered Faith: A Woman’s Struggle to Stop the Catholic Church from Annulling Her Marriage explaining that she was opposed to the concept of annulment, because it meant in Roman Catholic theology that the marriage had never actually existed, and claiming that the Kennedy family influence made it possible to unilaterally “cancel” a twelve-year marriage. A tribunal decision in favour of annulment is automatically appealed, and the decision is not effective until a second, conforming, sentence is granted. Instead of allowing the appeal to take place in the United States, Rauch appealed directly to the Holy See.
The original decision was overturned by the highest appellate tribunal of the Roman Catholic Church, the Roman Rota, in 2005. Rauch was informed of the decision by the Boston Archdiocese in 2007. As the first decision was never confirmed, there was no time at which the Church declared the marriage to be null or gave Kennedy permission to remarry.
