"I purchased a gun when I was a young man. I've been a hunter pretty much all my life."
(Romney's campaign later said he'd been hunting twice, once when he was 15, and once in 2006 at a Republican fundraiser)

You forgot to put the /sarc notation at the end of your post, even though we knew you were joking.

Gingrich has been running the Taxes, Abortion and Guns ads comparing him and Romney from the beginning.

But Santorum, unable to gain ground after his Iowa win, is fading and becoming desperate, thus attacking Gingrich.

You’re right, he knows he can’t win, he attacked conservatives the entire debate schedule...now when Mitt is vulnerable, he plays for the VP nomination and does Romney’s dirty work.

“Santorum is not hitting anyone but Obama.”

Try to keep up, Santorum has been attacking Gingrich in SC. He is not attacking Romney.

Pro-Newt super PAC responds to Newt's call by challenging Romney

When I asked Rick Tyler, a former Gingrich aide who's steering the super PAC Winning Our Future, his response to Gingrich's call, he provided an open letter to Romney, calling on the candidate to answer five specific questions

I was a Perry supporter from day one and will still vote for him in Texas Prinary, because he has proven to be a top notch Governor with excellent potential to be a very good conservative POTUS, but he has run just about the worst campaign and worst campaign won’t get him nominated.

I am now convinced that Newt is our last and only chance to beat Mitt and Newt will be a damn good conservative POTUS.

Your venom seems to be reserved for Gingrich? Do you ever have anything bad to say about Romney or are you just bored with that topic?

As to Bain Capital, do you know that almost all of their political donations have been going to Democrats. For example, this election cycle they gave $300,000 to the Democratic Party and the DCCC? They also donated money to Al Franken and Anthony Wiener. Does that make you question the line of argument that Bain Capital is an exemplar of free-market capitalism?

I agree wholeheartedly. Obamacare should be front and center in this race. Anyone fearful of staking out a position on it will undoubtedly support it if elected.

Same goes for smaller government. They need to stake out their positions and propose some change that makes sense (with regard to shrinking govt).

To get my vote however, Newt will have to plausibly explain his statements on Paul Ryan’s tax measures. As a member of the right, I found them derogatory. I felt that those statements exposed his true colors. The statement also shows IMHO that he will NEVER shrink government.

His quote: “I don’t think right-wing social engineering is any more desirable than left-wing social engineering,” Gingrich said. “I don’t think imposing radical change from the right or the left is a very good way for a free society to operate.”

He already explained, months ago.

Are you seriously saying it’s so important to you, yet you didn’t catch his apology and explanation..?

this is what everyone should of been hitting Mitt with since day one. It’s shocking that Mitt wasn’t completely destroyed within a week of entering the race, much less have been given a good opportunity to wrap things up without much of a challenge

Newt isn’t attacking capitalism..he is doing a Jerry Maguire. Show me business ethics and show me the money! That is what will make America great again! Not more government regulation.

OH I agree, but you also HAVE to see the Perry is going no where.

I know. Short of a miracle comeback of historic proportions, 2012 simply will not be Governor Perry's year. I'm now tepidly and unenthusiastically supporting Newt Gingrich, a man who's but half the conservative that Rick Perry is (and with twice the baggage).

Hopefully Perry learns from this and can re-establish himself for a future run. He remains the best man for the job.

Please don’t criticize All of us Conservatives on this site for seeing the obvious, It doesn’t make us any less Conservative.

I'm not criticizing everyone. Nonetheless, it was shameful how Governor Perry was treated by many on this forum when he strongly entered the race. It became nothing but "Gardasil" and "La Raza Ricardo." And somehow now Gingrich and Santorum are the "conservative" stalwarts running against Romney? Really?

Here Bain Capital's list of donations that I posted on another thread. As you can see, with the exception of donations to 2 Republican squishes, all of their donations are going to the Democrats.

Explain to me how a company with a donation record like that gets a man-the-barracades-of-capitalism defense from the likes of Rush, Hannity & Levin. Because right now the defense of Bain is a mystery to me.

Sorry, but I’m not a Newt follower. I either didn’t catch the apology or it didn’t resonate with me and sound plausible. Ur welcome to provide it.

And no, its not my only issue. Just the one that I felt compelled to contribute to the forum this cold morning.

The only thing in Romney’s defense on these massive (in total) Bain contributions to the Dems, is that he was gone from Bain when these occurred. Of course, he was also gone from Bain when Staples and Sports Authority were in rapid expansion, which he is happy to take credit for.

You Say you are not criticizing and then go on and do Just that.

You left out Cain. I was going to vote for him.

Everyone was choosing whom they liked the best at the time.
Perry, Santorum, Cain, ...Huntsman... etc.

It was a big mix...

Now it is your turn to leak your wounds and decide on who to vote for. Just about EVERYONE HAS.

That person may not be your first choice.

That doesn’t make YOU any less a conservative. REALLY.

I didn’t understand why Newt didn’t keep the negativity confined to these issues.

For all the caterwauling about Newt being “all over the map,” his position on these three issues of abortion, guns and taxes have been entirely consistent throughout his career, in strong contrast to the Flippin’-Mitt.

He has still has an interest in Bain. But aside from, what is a venture capital firm doing donating money almost exclusively to Democrats. I know the answer to that question - as I suspect do a bunch of other people - which is why it is fair game to go after Bain Capital.

Firms like Bain Capital and Goldman Sachs could care less about the free-market. They view capitalism as a tool to make money whereas I view capitalism as a tool to enhance my freedom. These are competing views that need to be discussed in the open.

I don't know about you but I am really bothered by companies that benefit greatly from free-market capitalism and then turn around and donate wads of cash to people who attack the same business system they have benefited from. One might almost begin to suspect that the people at Bain, now that they have their money, don't want to have to engage in any more competition. They want to donate to politicians who will regulate potential up-and-comers out of existence.

I final point. Would it surprise you if I informed you that Romney has donated to Democratic politicians in the past?

Very true, but where can you get conservative moderators?

Most of talk radio, plenty of conservative pundits, National Review, the Internet.

Have prominent Tea Party members do it, have Sara Palin moderate, how about proved conservative members of congress?

Plenty of people who could do a thousand percent better job than what we saw.

Even just giving each candidate a reasonable time to answer, say two minutes, and that is it, to a set of questions that are issue specific and not personality driven beforehand would have been much better.

As some have noted, the MSM turned these debates into a Republican circular firing squad.
