Romney opens 21-point lead in South Carolina: Reuters/Ipsos(sample 995 SC reg. voters 398R 380D)
Reuters ^ | Saturday January 14, 2012 | Jeff Mason

Posted on 01/14/2012 3:50:40 PM PST by Bigtigermike

(Reuters) - Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney has opened a wide lead over his rivals in the South Carolina primary election race, trouncing Newt Gingrich and gaining momentum in his march toward the party's nomination, a Reuters/Ipsos poll shows.

Romney, a former Massachusetts governor, could all but quash his rivals' presidential aspirations with a victory in South Carolina on January 21 after winning the first state-by-state nominating contests in Iowa and New Hampshire.

Voters in South Carolina - who have favored Republicans in nine of the last 10 presidential elections - appear to have shrugged off attacks on Romney by rivals who accuse him of killing jobs as a private equity executive for Bain Capital in the 1990s.

The poll showed 37 percent of South Carolina Republican voters back Romney. Congressman Ron Paul and former Senator Rick Santorum tied for second place with 16 percent support.

Gingrich, a former speaker of the House of Representatives, has fallen far back after holding a strong lead in South Carolina in December. He was in fourth place at 12 percent in the Reuters/Ipsos poll.

Why doesn’t the GOP just save time and money by cancelling all the primaries and holding Romney’s coronation next week? /sarc

I think this is BS also. Here in upstate South Carolina, I have found NO ONE supporting RINO ROMNEY.I believe Romney will be wondering what happened after the votes are counted.

The Reuters/Ipsos poll was conducted online from January 10-13 with a sample of 995 South Carolina registered voters.

I'll accept an online poll only if the results mirror traditional polling.

That depends on who counts the vote. I put nothing past the GOP nomenklatura in terms of bad faith or fraud. Nothing.

Been hearing a lot of that "w/o my vote" stuff. Not so sure Romney would win much less by a landslide. So sad that the people have been manipulated like this.

Just in case anyone goes into a chicken-little meltdown over this…
The Reuters/Ipsos poll was conducted online from January 10-13 with a sample of 995 South Carolina registered voters. It included 398 Republicans and 380 Democrats.
Also, nearly 40% of respondents were Democrat.

I agree. From the Gaffney Ledger newspaper facebook site...

Cody Sossamon(Editor)
Something fishy was going on with our poll as more than 400 votes were cast for Ron Paul in a very short period. We have reset the vote count and will monitor the voting.

AKA, Faux News.

These worthless online polls usually have Rupaul winning. Let’s hope the people of SC that are brainwashed by Faux New, ranting and raving about this bogus poll every five minutes.

Newt Gingrich will win SC.

What about “online poll” did you not get?

As far as Newt goes, he is closing in on Romney.

Santorum is OK, but he will not prevail against Obama or with the electorate in general.

We are in the fight of our lives, and we need a scrapper.

I was warning people that this was in the cards. But, nobody listened.

Newt’s support isn’t coming from conservatives. Sure he’s got some support, but it’s coming from Moderates. These folks won’t stick with him. His core is about the same 10 percent that he’s had since February.

He’s dropped back down to his core support.
