Chicano Park gets makeover

Photobucket

SAN DIEGO— Artists restore cultural paintings in Chicano Park.

“As a young artist I remember coming to San Diego and thinking ‘gosh I wish I could have a mural up at Chicano park,’” painter Mario Chacon said.

The bright art pieces have brought people to Chicano Park since the 1970’s, but time has taken it’s toll.

Thanks to a $1.6 million grant from the federal government, 18 of the murals are being restored.

The artists working on the restoration said each painting has significant symbolism.

“What was placed at the top of the mural was a banner proclaiming the battle cry of the day,” Chcon said. “The idea being that the community would build a green zone, a recreational area from here to the bay.”

In 1970 Barrio Logan residents occupied the park in protest and artists like Charcon consider the murals more like history books.

“It’s that significant to me because it’s art for our people,”Charcon said. “It’s art of our people and for our people and [we’re] sharing it with different communities.”

Dollars stolen from American workers used to make America look like Mexico. That makes a lot of sense. Geeesh!

Republicans and democrats are trying to balance the budget and reduce our debt.
If only there were some non-essential federal expenditures that could be cut or reduced.

But, alas, they have looked and looked and there isn’t anything at all that isn’t absolutely necessary - nothing at all.

From the looks of that map on the mural, they underestimate their sucess.

They've been successful in garnishing one of the world's titles and perhaps looking to add America's states to it (and Obama and his crew have an open door to all of them):

Mexico home to five of world's deadliest cities

Snips
A Honduras metropolis, San Pedro Sula, topped the list with 159 murders per 100,000 inhabitants, Mexico’s Citizen Council for Public Safety and Criminal Justice said.

Mexico’s Ciudad Juarez, which led the list for three consecutive years, dropped to second in 2011 with a tally of 148 homicides for every 100,000 residents.

The other Mexican cities finishing in the top 10 for 2011 were Acapulco with 128 murders per 100,000 people, Torreon with 88, Chihuahua with 83, and Durango with 80 homicides.

Forty of the 50 most dangerous cities are in Latin America, including 14 in Brazil.

This militant crap must be stopped, not coddled and subsidized.

Does anyone really believe this is working to address illegal immigration?

Promoting acceptance of illegals is to promote slave wages for LEGAL immigrants.

I’m just so thankful that we taxpayers have no debt and plenty of money for this kind of outreach.
