Santorum: Romneycare a 'Real Scarlet Letter'
Newsmax ^ | January 15, 2011 | Amy Woods

Posted on 01/15/2012 10:17:05 AM PST by Clintonfatigued

Former U.S. Sen. Rick Santorum said Sunday that Mitt Romney's backing for "Romneycare" -- the Masschusetts healthcare plan that was a model for Obamacare -- should disqualify him from being the GOP nominee for president.

Santorum, who like other conservatives is chasing Romney heading into Saturday's primary in South Carolina, said Romney instituted a health plan in his state that has been "a disaster." By nominating Romney, Republicans would be forfeiting the issue of Obama's health care plan during the campaign, Santorum said, and that would constitute political "malpractice."

Also appearing on “Fox News Sunday,” Santorum said the vote by a group of proves his ability to stand up to front-runner Mitt Romney once the field narrows.

“We need to get this eventually down to a conservative alternative to Mitt Romney when we finally get matched up,” he said. “We match up very well and are ahead of Gov. Romney in almost every one of those state polls. We feel like once this field narrows, and we get it down to a two-person race, we have an excellent opportunity to win this race.”

Santorum said Romney’s economic and health-care plans disqualify him as a conservative candidate.

“Romneycare is a real scarlet letter here,” he said. “We can’t have a nominee that takes away the most important issue in this election, which is an explosion of the federal government and robbing of people’s freedom on the federal level with Obamacare.”

I kinda like Rick but he is not bold enough on the Economic issues. What is his Stance on Tax codes, the IRS, cutting size of government eliminating NEA, Czars etc. I don’t know what Santorum’s stance is and I been on his web site a couple of times. It is way to vague!

I’m sure Rick Santorum’s web site has an e-mail address. Perhaps you could send him an e-mail asking for more specifics on the issues.

Nice to see somebody finally talking about one of the most crucial issues of 2012... instead of bashing Capitalism and focusing on the fact that an opponent speaks a foreign language.

I agree with Santorum. Obamacare is pretty much off the table if Romney is the nominee. Independents are not going to buy Romney’s “It was right for Massachussets but it should be a decision made by the individual States” baloney.

“...Rick but he is not bold enough on the Economic issues.”

Exactly, Santorum is NEVER bold. He will move to the center, the left and the right and follow polls on economic issues.

Whereas Gingrich has been and can be bold, and when he is bold he is powerful. It is when Gingrich acts as Santorum that he gets in trouble.

I am beginning to see the lineup as:

Gingrich - President
Perry - Vice-President
Cain - Secretary of State
Palin - Secretary of Defense
Bachmann - Attorney General
Paul - Secretary of Treasury

Hmmm...and yet I just found out Santorum endorsed Romney last time around. Wonder how he liked Romneycare then?

Santorum was my second choice, but I’m reconsidering.

I don’t know what Santorum’s stance is and I been on his web site a couple of times. It is way to vague!

I would advise everyone to be very careful when doing web searches using the word "santorum." The word has been hijacked by his enemies on the left, and many of the top search engine 'hits' contain malware. Turn off javascript and block pop-up windows, at the very least.

If you click on a website that's been co-opted by hackers, you may see a "security scan" pop-up that says your computer has a virus on it. (Mine said i had a virus with "child.porn" in the name). Do NOT click on anything. It's bogus.

Why would you include dimocrat Paul in your list? Do you want Soros to have control over the U. S. money?

Ron Paul is dangerous.

Ron Paul, Soros and Defense

Before everyone gets their panties in a wad. Obama is already starting to make the moves to destroy our military.
Ron Paul will just drive the knife into their backs.
I thought it was clever how the Obama military haters are going to cut Benefits for veterans and wounded soldiers.
Wonder how far enlistment will drop on that one.

One of Ron Pauls best friends is George Soros..

Sorry, not for me. My candidate is the solid conservative and committed Christian who has a decade of governing to offer along with the promises-—Rick Perry.

Rick endorsed Mitt a week before Mitt got out in ‘08, when the only other choices left were Huck and McCain. Do people hold DeMint’s early ‘08 endorsement of Mitt against DeMint?

I’ll answer you this way: as a result of signing taxpayer-funded abortion into law, Romney has blood on his hands. God’s view of homosexuality is clear, but Romney cuddled up to sodomites every chance he got.

So, I personally cannot understand how anyone with principles could endorse the man.

The sodomites hate Santorum more than any other candidate, so they must despise Romney for having been endorsed once by Rick.../sarc

Not everybody evaluates politicians based on just one criterium. Many evaluate based on multiple criteria and are are willing to accept them based on agreement on a sufficient majority of issues even they disagree on some important issues, even if they disagree on their most important idea. This may or not be right, but it would be unrealistic to deny it is common. That it is a reality one must learn to deal with it, at least until humanity is perfected. And I don't expect to live to see that day.

Santorum is on the record as being willing to work with those with whom he disagrees if he believes it will advance the big picture. He explains his Spector support as based on his (Rick's) pro life stance and in spite of Spector's pro-abort stance. He got Spector to promise, in his role as head of the Judiciary committee, to promise to let pro-live Bush Supreme court picks through for a Senate vote. Spector could have blocked them, but let Roberts and Alito through, keeping that promise. Earlier Spector had his greatest moment defending Clarence Thomas. The liberal, pro-choice, Spector deserves significant credit for 3 pro-life votes on the Court. Pat Toomey, to whom IIRC I sent $ that race, would have had a harder timing winning PA that year than in his win in the good GOP hear of 2010. Had a Rat beat him they might have held the Senate and forced more "Kennedy" types on Bush. And even Pat Toomey has forgiven Rick for supporting Spector.

Are Roberts and Alito worth the heartburn Spector produced at other times? It's hard to say, but Santorum's pick there is not indefensible. His last minute endorsement of Romney in '04 was the product of similar reasoning. As polls of Freepers at the time showed the majority of us (doubtless many after heavy doses of antacids) then supported Romney over Huck and McCain, Santorum's reason wasn't uncommon. Happily, at this time, there are still multiple options better than Mitt. If it ever gets down to Mitt vs. Wrong Paul vs. Obama, Freepers won't be suffering heartburn over their choice, they'll be suffering angina.
