Perry: Marines in video are 'kids,' not criminals [Obama: Ft. Hood Shooting = Workplace Violence]

....[Gov. Rick] Perry's comments put him at odds with Sen. John McCain, the top Republican on the Senate Armed Services Committee, who said the images could damage the war effort.

"The Marine Corps prides itself that we don't lower ourselves to the level of the enemy," McCain said when asked about Perry's position. "So it makes me sad more than anything else, because ... I can't tell you how wonderful these people (Marines) are. And it hurts their reputation and their image."

No one has been charged in the case, but officials in the U.S. and abroad have called for swift punishment of the four Marines. Defense Secretary Leon Panetta said last week that he worried the video could be used by the Taliban to undermine peace talks.

A military criminal investigation and an internal Marine Corps review are under way. The Geneva Conventions forbid the desecration of the dead.

Texas Gov. Perry said the Marines involved should be reprimanded but not prosecuted on criminal charges.

"Obviously, 18-, 19-year-old kids make stupid mistakes all too often. And that's what's occurred here," Perry told CNN's "State of the Union."

He later added: "What's really disturbing to me is the kind of over-the-top rhetoric from this administration and their disdain for the military."

Later appearing on the same show, McCain said he disagreed.

"We're trying to win the hearts and minds" of the Afghanistan population, he said. "And when something like that comes up, it obviously harms that ability."

These people are NOT enemy combantants. They are scum who blow up civilians and torture and mutilate their victims.

Urinating on their dead bodies is the LEAST that should be done to them and that anti-western racist bastard in the White House HAS to be driven out of office next year. He’s a maniac.

Perry is wrong about these Marines being "kids". They made the decision and the committment to serve this country that few do.

They became Marines and they traveled halfway across the world to defend The United Stes of America...They are Men.

Their only mistake, video.

McCain is nuts - the Taliban IS THE ENEMY of the Afghanistan population. If anything, pissing on the enemy should let them know they don't have milquetoasts helping out.

Thank you Governor. Someone finally standing up for these Marines. If this happened on a College campus it would be called a prank. This administrations feigned outrage has caused most of the uproar.

These Marines are guilty of the bad judgement of filming this. I have no doubt this is not the first time this has happened. It's just the first time it was videotaped. They should receive office hours. In today's military that would most likely end their careers. Do not send them to the brig and give them a dishonorable or BCD. That will ruin their lives. They don't deserve that.

"Workplace accident" was Ft. Hood?

Seems viciously ironic to call the murders THAT
given the source of the planning.

Obama and Hasan knew each other pre-inauguration.

The day after Pete was killed, I was sitting at the dining room table with Hardtail, just trying to make sense of all that was going on.

My cell phone rang. "Unknown" said the caller ID.

Thought about letting it pass, but I answered it.

"Alan, this is Rick Perry."…..

C-130 Rick Perry: He flew the world before politics …….

Perry could count on one hand the number of trips he had taken out of his home state by the time he graduated from Texas A&M University, but everything changed when he joined the Air Force.

Flying C-130s, Perry lived in Germany and Saudi Arabia. He flew in Central and South America, North Africa and all over Europe.

"I saw all of these different types of governments and I made the connections to how the people acted and looked, and it became abundantly clear to me that, at that particular point in time, that America was this very unique place and that our form of democracy was very rare," Perry said. " ... That was the greatest gift I received from my years of being in the military, and they really shaped my outlook on the rest of my life."

.....Upon graduation, he was commissioned in the United States Air Force, completed pilot training and flew C-130 tactical airlift in the United States, the Middle East, and Europe until 1977. He left the Air Force with the rank of captain, returned to Texas and went into business farming cotton with his father [Ray Perry who flew 35 missions as the tail-gunner on B-17 bombers liberating Europe]

The former 49th Armored Division, which consists of approximately 12,000 soldiers, makes up almost two-thirds of the Texas National Guard. The division's redesignation as the 36th Infantry Division is part of the Texas Army National Guard's transition from a heavy armored force to a more versatile infantry force.

OK, I looked again. I guess that’s a skirt which was blown against her legs and looks like tight pants in the second photo. Still... too tight and revealing.

Thank you, ZULU, for stating the truth. Perry is absolutely correct and he had the courage to say it. Perry is good with a reprimand but no prosecuting as criminals.

I say give those marines medals.

If McCain thinks we are going to win the hearts and minds of anyone in Afghanistan he is a lunatic.

The British couldn’t win their hearts and minds, the Russians couldnt win their hearts and minds and the United States isn’t going to win their hearts and minds either.

It’s no wonder McCain graduated at the bottom of his US Naval Academy class and crashed so many planes. He is dipstick stupid.
