Eleanor Clift: Romney Withholding Tax Returns Because They'd Show Offshore Investments and...
Newsbusters ^ | January 14, 2012 | Noel Sheppard

Posted on 01/16/2012 10:06:27 AM PST by Qbert

Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney has up to this point opted not to make his tax returns public.

Not surprisingly, Newsweek's Eleanor Clift smells a rat and expressed her conspiratorial opinion during the predictions segment of PBS's McLaughlin Group Friday (video follows with transcript):

ELEANOR CLIFT, NEWSWEEK: Romney’s refusal so far to release his income tax returns will be linked to probable investments in the Cayman Islands and the likelihood that he paid a very small percentage of his income in taxes.

TOPICS: News/Current Events; Politics/Elections
KEYWORDS: eleanorclift; offshoreaccounts; romney; taxes
Expect to hear this over and over by Axelrod and crew if Romney gets the nomination, and doesn't release his tax returns (regardless of whether it's true, or not)...

Eleanor can relax. If Romney becomes the candidate I believe they are required to give out their income tax. No one should until that time. She is making up anything to bash Romney.

Oh, REALLY??

And what is O’Bummer withholding?

Easier to list what he has released, which is practically nothing of interest or value.

Clift is off her rocker,
but this rumor has been floating around for since the 2008 primaries and NYC IB people who are counterparties to his deals have been the ones spreading the rumors.

He didn’t take up the IRS amnesty offer, which means he is trapped in a web of lies.

But that’s just rumors,

I despise Eleanor Clift. Talk about a woman who needs to have vocal lessons so that others can stand to listen to her, she is the poster child. I stopped listening to anything she has to say years ago.

Actually, this makes the point that lower corporate taxes, lower capital gains taxes will cause enormous amounts of money to be repatriated. I think this is something most of the GOP candidates have been saying.

Companies and corporations don’t really pay taxes anyway, they just collect them. You pay the tax when you buy the gallon of milk at the supermarket; its built into the price of the product. They raise taxes on the rich and all that happens is the price of tires goes up, and gasoline, and everything else. That, and more jobs shift away off shore. Lower taxes and the reverse happens.

Could Romney be with holding his tax returns so officials at Mormon inc. won't find out that he hasn't paid the mandatory Mormon tithe?

of course this is why Romney wont release his tax returns, he is keeping his income offshore to avoid taxes.

He is offshoring his profits just as he offshored most of the “jobs” he supposedly created at Bain.

Romney is one of the biggest frauds I have ever seen in politics.

“ELEANOR CLIFT STILL ALIVE????”

I believe she died several years. They just bring her corpse out and prop her up and do a voice-over direct from the most deranged DU blogger through a special voice box. It’s quite an honor for the bloggers, who vie intensely for the honor.

Sort of a “Weekend at Bernie’s” with a socialist twist.

"Eleanor can relax. If Romney becomes the candidate I believe they are required to give out their income tax."

I don't think that's true:

"While the presidential candidates are required to file financial disclosure forms — which list sources of income and assets held, as well as ballpark figures of the value of those assets and income — by May 15th of this year or within 30 days of announcing their candidacy, there is no such legal requirement that any tax returns see the light of day."

And I'm right there with Eleanor on this one.

Anything, that is ethical, and releasing his tax records is not unethical, is fair game where bringing down Myth "Shape-Shifter" Romney is concerned.

But the lefty meme of "Evil 1%er multimillionair who pays less taxes than his secretary" would be served by such a disclosure. The MSM would never explain the truth just parrot the bumper sticker slogan.

Actually, it could be a useful negotiating tool. Mitt promises to release his tax returns when Obama releases his college transcripts and enrollment applications.

There really isn't much to be gained by releasing them now.

Maggie, Post your information or link it over here.

WIllard, according to James Rosin on FOX news, made up to 15.5 million from Bain in just the year 2006-2007.

But he has repeatedly said he left Bain in 1999. Just depends on what the meaning of Left is. One thing for certain someone is going to get screwed.

Romney Plans to Pursue Public Service - SLOC boss won’t return to business after Games; Romney Plans to Pursue Public Service
Salt Lake Tribune, The (UT) - Tuesday, August 21, 2001
Author: MIKE GORRELL, THE SALT LAKE TRIBUNE

EXCERPT

The transition was ensured when Romney informed the 26 managing directors of Bain Capital recently that he was “going limited.” That meant he no longer intended to resume his duties as managing partner and chief executive of the company, which started or took part in 140 corporate acquisitions since 1984 and has more than $12 billion in assets.

In doing so, he gave up control over all of Bain Capital’s voting stock, dividing the shares between the two dozen directors. The divestiture had no financial ramifications, Romney said, affecting only the management and control of the company.

Public service for Romney
Deseret News, The (Salt Lake City, UT) - Monday, August 20, 2001
Author: Lisa Riley Roche and Bob Bernick Jr., Deseret News staff writers

EXCERPT

Romney took a leave of absence in 1999 as chief executive officer of Bain Capital Inc. to take the helm at SLOC.

Bain is one of the nation’s biggest private equity firms with 26 partners.

Earlier this year, Huntsman Corp. announced a deal in which Bain invested more than $600 million in the Salt Lake City-based chemical company.

Under terms of the deal, Bain gained a minority equity stake in Huntsman Corp., which assured the deal had nothing to do with Romney .

From Maggies's post

In doing so, he gave up control over all of Bain Capital’s voting stock, dividing the shares between the two dozen directors. The divestiture had no financial ramifications, Romney said, affecting only the management and control of the company.

Guess his body left but the vacuum tube connecting his bank account to their assets remained. IOW he no longer had to do any work for the money.

“LOL But how many times does she vote?”

She gets around pretty well for a corpse...early and often. But, then again, that IS their core constituency, just that they are usually just dead from the neck up..

Add up the top numbers. It will be the $15.5 million dollars of income that FOX reported for 2006-7 this morning. But this is only a fraction of what Mags has found today..Seems that Huntman is not only Mitt’s cousin but that the family business is indeed part of Bain. They’ve been working together since the beginning. The American electorate is being manipulated.

Elenor, be sure you ask the Won about releasing his scholastic and medical records. And be sure to get a good look at his BirfCert.
