His flippant, ungrateful attitude about his wealth, and his complete obliviousness as to how his comments about it can harm others speaks volumes about the character of the man.
I agree with you.
Ping.
Just as his stumbling last night on this issue, drizzling it out doesn't look smart, unless there is something to hide.
Even though Mr. Romney obviously really does consider $374,000 per year to be "not very much", such income would be an absolute fortune for the majority of people.
It would have shown some class on his part to have chosen a different way to describe his income from speaking engagement. However, I doubt he even knew he was saying anything that might be considered controversial. To me, he has always seemed VERY out of touch with lives and concerns of 'regular folks'.
“Trickle the information”.
That is exactly what I was thinking last night as I watched the debate. Romney kept putting off the insistence that he show his tax return and said he would think about doing so about April, maybe. He is a real weasel.
I dislike when not wealthy people criticize wealthy people because they are wealthy.
Nonsense. Like most people with significant wealth, he does not like talking about and is very modest. He is not like Donald Trump who wants everyone to know about his net worth. So what if he pays 15%. I don’t think capital gains or dividends should be taxed at all.
I agree he is flippant but I still do not care about his wealth or the lack of it.
I still think it a stupid issue.
There are a million reason to not support Romney but his wealth and his not revealing the amount is not one of them.
Mark 12:
41 Now Jesus sat opposite the treasury and saw how the people put money into the treasury. And many who were rich put in much.
42 Then one poor widow came and threw in two mites, which make a quadrans.
43 So He called His disciples to Himself and said to them, Assuredly, I say to you that this poor widow has put in more than all those who have given to the treasury;
44 for they all put in out of their abundance, but she out of her poverty put in all that she had, her whole livelihood.
Matthew 12:36
But I say to you that for every idle word men may speak, they will give account of it in the day of judgment.
Statements like this show a terrible lack of judgement and leadership ability in Romney.
The MSM will SHRED HIM during the general.
” I dont think capital gains or dividends should be taxed at all.”
Romney supports taxes on capital gains...
I think the way Romney talks about this, he is trying to downplay his income. He isn’t a bragger like Trump.
He should know that statements like that from folks like him breed communism.
If he cared AT ALL for Joe American, he would know.
I was offering MY opinion not Romney’s position. And btw Romney is opposed to taxing capital gains and dividends on individuals with incomes below 200k-—which would of course exclude himself.
Jug Ears does not pay at the top rate (not even at the second highest rate) so Jug Ears has nothing to crow about.
Disclaimer: I am not a Romney supporter. I support Santorum.
As one would expect most of Romney’s passive income comes from capital gains from the Bain deals he invested in. I expect the Dems to attack on the look at the rich guy paying only 15% point but if the Republican opponents do this without mentioning that the risk of capital gains are oftimes plowed back into further risk and growth and jobs. Any Republican raising this spectre of the rich guy with the 15% capital gains tax for short term political gain IMHO is advancing the Obama argument playing into the dem strategy to increase the capital gains rate.
“I dont care how much money Romney has or how much he has earned or what his tax rate is. I say whoooray he is rich.
I want more rich people not fewer rich people.”
Certainly, that’s right but then he’s not mounting a very strong defense of himself. He acts as if he can’t, somehow, justify his accumulation of wealth. That’s a liability!
