Dobson decried Callista Gingrich as 'eight-year mistress' at conservative confab
Politico ^ | 1-17-12 | Haberson

At the now-controversial meeting of evangelicals at a Texas ranch, influential evangelical leader James Dobson made a strong pitch for Rick Santorum's wife — and noted that Callista Gingrich was her husband's "mistress for eight years," questioning whether that's what people want in a first lady, three sources told POLITICO.

The moment left several attendees at the confab at the Pressler ranch stunned, according to the sources.

It came on Saturday, before the group of about 150 conservatives voted on a candidate they wanted to back. On the third round of balloting, the vote went to Santorum, but Gingrich backers and other attendees have argued that the voting was done unfairly, and in a way that seemed to benefit the former Pennsylvania senator.

The meeting was initially described as an event to try to unite behind a single candidate to thwart Mitt Romney, but his representatives also ended up speaking there, and despite the third round of balloting — which took place after some Gingrich backers left, thinking the meeting had ended — broad consensus was never reached, according to multiple attendees.

"Dobson first talked about how great Santorum is," recalled one source, who had first-hand knowledge of Dobson's comment. "[He said,] 'I want to tell you that I've gotten to know Karen [Santorum] and she is just lovely. She set aside two professional careers to raise these seven children. She would make a fabulous first lady role model. And Newt Gingrich's wife, she was a mistress for eight years."

Another source confirmed the account, and said Dobson concluded the sentiment about Callista Gingrich with, "Who do you want as your first lady?"

"It was like a chill [set into] the room," said one source. Several people were offended by the comment, said another source, adding that it was noted among some participants that Callista Gingrich had only been married once.

You show no evidence for Gingrich having sex with Calista while married, yet you ignore a report of the Karen Santorum having an affair with a married abortion doctory.

Hypocrisy

Never said he was a pastor. But he is a christian leader, having worked in christian ministry and followed by millions of church-going christians. Suprised you didn't know that.

I know that.

I lived in Colorado for over forty years.

Dobson moved his corporation from
California to Colorado Springs.

If a politician did not kiss his ring,
Dobson would savage him.

Members of FoF would surreptitiously
write poison pen letters to local
newspapers savaging the politician.

Only Republicans were savaged.

The net result was that Dobson FoF
was working to elect Demonsrats.

Draw your own conclusions as to whom
Dobson is working.

Gingrich himself has repented of his behavior with Callista. His words:

""There were times when I was praying and when I felt I was doing things that were wrong. But I was still doing them," Gingrich said during the interview. "I look back on those as periods of weakness and periods that I'm not only not proud of, but I would deeply urge my children and grandchildren not to follow in my footsteps."

The affair has been written about many, many times and neither one has denied it. There's no reason to think their affair did not happen.

Meanwhile there is one story about Karen Santorum in the Daily Mail and we're supposed to immediately believe it hook, line and sinker?

If you people have no standards of behavior then what good are you and what good can you ever do in this world?

"You people?" What the heck does that mean? "No standards of behavior?" Again, what does that mean? "Infidelity supporters and porn lovers"? You got all that from my comment on the very sanctimonious Dobson who gets upset at the sight of some cartoon characters?

I don't need some tool like Dobson to lead me anywhere or to teach me anything. Especially someone like Dobson who lives the good life while taking advantage of the messed up nonprofit corporation laws in the US. But if you have some use for him or the Joel Osteen types more power to you.

I'm not looking for a priest or preacher as president. I'm looking for someone that follows the US Constitution. Someone that will stop this monster of a mess this country is in. I want Obama's bell unrung. I'd be fine with any of the candidates except for Mittens handling that for me.

FR is not Disney World. This is not a site for kiddies. As far as "what good can you ever do in this world" you don't have a clue who you are talking to. I will tell you this. I have not been feminized and never will be. I'm apparently too rough around the edges for your taste. Too bad. I'd suggest that you likely do not know what real evil is. What real devoids are and what they can do. I've seen the horrors of man and I can recognize a horrible man. I don't see that in any of the candidates today. I've also seen women that have more than a bit of monster in them. I can't say that Newt has not run across these types too. I don't know him or his ex types and neither do you. Nor does Dobson but he spouts about good and evil as if he was there. You seem to be cut from the same clothe. Lots of luck with that.....

A sin is a sin...which sin is considered the worst? I don’t go through ONE day without sinning (usually a few swear words to myself)
According to the scriptures if a man just LOOKS at a woman with lust in his heart..it is a sin.

“”There were times when I was praying and when I felt I was doing things that were wrong. But I was still doing them,” Gingrich said during the interview. “I look back on those as periods of weakness and periods that I’m not only not proud of, but I would deeply urge my children and grandchildren not to follow in my footsteps.”

Nowhere is there any admission of an affair.

So what is it Gingrich was doing wrong?

These responses were in direct responses to questions about an affair.

Divorce followed each time. What else would you call it? Get real.

Yes he did admit it, and ironically, he admitted it to Dobson on FOX back in 2007.

You have an active imagination hypocrite.

Gingrich admitted an affair with an intern, not Calista.

But that is not the point.

You hypocrites are ignoring the story on Santorum’s wife, not to mention Dobson’s son having affairs and being divorced twice. Dobson tried to force his son as his heir at Focus...

What a hypocrite.

Next they'll be telling us JFK didn't do it because there was no camera that caught him in the act.

Sheesh.

Who are you to judge Dobson? He is right. What Callista did was disgraceful, particularly as a presumed “Catholic.” Newt’s marital history makes him a disastrous presidential candidate. She was complicit in his sin.

You’ve just written several paragraphs of anti-Christian gibberish. Dr. Dobson is a great man. He has done a world of good for his country, as a preacher, as a psychologist teaching godly values, and fighting for the pro-life cause.

I don't think anyone's ignoring it.

We are just not as eager as you to believe the word of one abortion doctor.

Go ahead and believe it if you really want to but at this point there doesn't seem to be any other "credible" source.

You know what I find disgraceful? All you good Christians gossiping. I wonder how God feels about that.

You should all be ashamed of yourselves.
