Romney Delivers a Low Blow to Gingrich

GOP front-runner Mitt Romney struck an especially low blow at Newt Gingrich in South Carolina Tuesday: He compared the former speaker to Al Gore.

Speaking at a rally at Wofford College in Spartanburg, S.C., the GOP front-runner derided Mr. Gingrich’s claim during a debate Monday night that he had a hand in the creation of millions of jobs during Ronald Reagan’s presidency.

Mr. Romney noted that Mr. Gingrich was only in his second term in the House when Mr. Reagan became president, and argued that the private sector, not government, is responsible for job creation.

So Romney is saying that Reagan got too much credit for the economy boom in the 80s.

And about that time, Romney was trying to explain why his company was committing medicare fraud.

Getting the government, particularly the Executive, out of the way certainly had something to do with clearing the way for the private sector to work.

As you can see with the Executive actively tossing obstacles at job creation, the private sector cannot create very many jobs.

I think you need to have a bifurcated view ~ one that looks for ways to KEEP GOVERNMENT OUT OF THE WAY, and another that looks for ways to KEEP THE PRIVATE SECTOR GROWING.

Romney is demonstrating once again that he hasn't got a clue.

“I’m happy to take a look at the Massachusetts record, because when I came in as governor, we were in a real freefall,” Romney said at the debate last night. “We were losing jobs every month. We had a budget that was way out of balance. So I came into office, we went to work as a team, and we were able to turn around the job losses. And at the end of four years, we had our unemployment rate down to 4.7 percent. That’s a record I think the president would like to see.”

Then he delivered the kicker.

“As a matter of fact,” Romney added, “we created more jobs in Massachusetts than this president has created in the entire country.”

I viewed Newts speech last night in some Forum in S.C.

One undecided young man asked Newt how he created jobs.

Newt explained exactly what you wrote: He got the government out of the way.

He explained this so very well, and I believe the young man got it.

The crowd got to go through the line, I heard one woman say to Newt, "I was undecided until tonight, you got my vote".

Mitt is so lame on this issue, and just gave Newt another bomb, another opportunity to speak on this very important issue. Not very smart of him to open this door again. Mitt is in PANIC mode now.

In the battle of “You’re a liberal—No, you’re a liberal,” Gingrich beats Romney many times over.

This little exercise means that Mitt, who's not all that much younger than me, didn't pay attention to a single thing Ronaldus Magnus said or wrote.

This was the essence of the Reagan Program ~ get the government out of the way and do things to help the private sector grow and raise all boats!

Newt certainly understood that. I understood it. Millions of others understood it then, and they understand it now.

Mitt doesn't get it!

And now NEWT will DRIVE this fact home.

Thanks Mitt for giving Newt another opportunity.

Go Newt.

I've heard Mitt brag multiple times in debates about the jobs he created in Massachusetts.

Romney needs to heal himself on this point before going after Newt.

I thnk Newt said they “created a climate” that allowed for 16 million new jobs.

Romney, is a spoiled little rich kid @ hole. I think this will stop at nothing to get the nomination...

He’s buying his way into the presidency.

Desperate is the word I was thinking. Looking forward to tomorrow night's debate, he should be pretty rattled by then.

Ayup. But, Reagan would have also said he got too much credit. It’s why we love the man. He didn’t care as much about who got the credit as long as it got done.
