Iowa Caucus: First in the Nation Clown Show
Outside the Beltway ^ | JANUARY 19, 2012 | JAMES JOYNER

Posted on 01/19/2012 10:08:41 AM PST by Qbert

Reacting to this morning’s news that not only has Rick Santorum won the Iowa Caucuses after all but that they’ve managed to lose more ballots than the margin of victory, the Telegraph’s Toby Harnden tweets, “What a debacle for Iowa. Hard to see why candidates should take Iowa caucuses seriously in future.”

Indeed.

This is truly a joke. In a contest with fewer total votes (121,503 counted; goodness knows how many lost) than your average election for a school board seat, the powers that be have managed to have wild shifts in the vote count in several districts and be so incredibly incompetent as to render eight precincts uncountable.

This, in a contest that gets so much attention that several candidates are eliminated from the race based on the outcome.

I've heard tell some of the folks want it moved to November 15th.

Even so, they'd STILL probably get it wrong!

Yeah, I'm a, "GUTLESS, SPINELESS LITTLE TOAD!" because I point out that this a complete joke. Okey dokey.

You want to try to defend this debacle in Iowa? Emphasize on the word "try"...

I agree. What an embarrassment... I stayed up til 3am ET waiting for the "winner" of the Iowa caucuses, and we still don't really know who it is.

Unreal... Iowans can't even handle their own caucuses while the entire world watches. "First in the Nation Clown Show" is a perfect title.

The biggest lie about Iowa?
That this face to face campaigning is so meaningful. That it is so important to block out the media and the ads for these wonderful brilliant Iowans to get to “know” the candidates. It is such an important part of the campaign.

Yeah, right.
So after a year of getting to know the candidates, Newt has a huge lead.
Two weeks of ads hit, and Newt loses two thirds of his support.

Yeah, that “retail’ campaigning was real important to those wonderful Iowans wasn’t it?

Hey Vet,

I don't know the gutless, spineless, little toad that you refer to, but, if Iowa is your state, you can't defend what happened and it shouldn't be "cleaned up" it should be ignored.

No way that this bunch of corn huskin' pig farmers, that have proven that they can't count and can't keep track of a few precincts 1,700, hell we have 12,000 in PA, why should we even acknowledge the hawkeye cauci?

I agree as to your point about the negative attacks on Newt, but the face to face strategy did work for Santorum. He was the only one to visit all 99 counties.

Oh yeah...I fogot to mention....

In speaking with an Iowan, they told me that Iowa is going to withdraw from the Electical College because supporting 7 electrical votes has proven to be too expensive what with the cost of energy and all.

!!!!!!!!

Doesn’t change this fact:

Two weeks of negative ads totally wiped out what was accomplished by the full year of the face to face stuff - and we are told that we should pay attention to Iowa because it is the one state where TV ads will not decide it.

TV ads did indeed decide the outcome.

Understand that the idiot in Iowa that was in charge of vote counting lacked a few districts and declared Romney the winner anyway with 8 vote count. Now we find a recount list Rick Santorum the winner but won’t declare because the same districts cannot find Tally. What horse shi!.

Pennsylvania? Ya right, home of the clean elections. Gimme a break. The caucuses were run by the party with probably 4 thousand volunteers involved in tabulating and reporting the totals from small precincts across the state . Pennsylvania is a great state but don’t preach to others about fair elections. PA would be proud to have such a record as Iowa.

Nope, Iowa (media) was told, in advance, that Mitt won by a squeaker - period.

How do I know this, having listed to all of the "talking heads" this morning after the "news" about Iowa really being won by Santorum, was really "no news on account of all of the publicity of Iowa being won by Romney!"

Of course, that WAS the "news" from every news reader and "talking head" about "Mitt really didn't campaign yet still managed to win, even by a slim margin, yada, yada, yada....."

Now that word is out that Mitt did NOT win and even lost by a much larger count than he was supposed to have won,, to the media (and presumably to the Establishment), it doesn't really matter at all who won - Romney is still the winner!

How sick/slick is that - you lose but in the eyes of media/liberals/Establishment RINOs - you are still the winner!!!

"TV ads did indeed decide the outcome."

But there's something else- I've always felt with them, that in the end, the biggest thing that matters is ethanol. They are a corn state, and they vote for the person they feel will do the most to protect this interest.
