Aldermen back measure to track residents turned away from the polls

Milwaukee election officials will keep track of how many people are turned away from the polls because of new voter identification and residency rules, the Common Council decided Wednesday.

Aldermen unanimously backed Ald. Milele Coggs' resolution to collect the data in the wake of the controversial state law enacted last year.

The new law requires voters to show photo identification at the polls, starting with the Feb. 21 primary. Voters who don't have one of the acceptable forms of identification will be allowed to cast provisional ballots, but those ballots will not be counted unless the voters return with an approved ID by 4 p.m. on the Friday after the election.

Democrats blocked passage of similar measures for years, but Republicans pushed the law through after they took control of both houses of the Legislature and the governor's office.

Supporters say the law is needed to combat voter fraud. Opponents say it will have little impact on fraud but could discourage voting by urban minorities who usually support Democrats.

The same law calls for voters to live in their wards for 28 days before an election, up from 10 days previously.

Good! Let’s get some data about this and we will have some actual facts about how voter id affects voters.

Opponents say it will have little impact on fraud but could discourage voting by urban minorities who usually support Democrats.

Why are they so racist? Do they think "urban minorities" are too dirt poor and stupid to get a photo ID?

Just wait, there'll be an orchestrated campaign of people showing up at the polls and falsely claiming that they don't have a photo ID to boost the stats.

Have they ever been able to find anyone who doesn't have a photo ID, except maybe the Amish? I haven't heard of it.

Maybe they can track the buses that go from precinct to precinct, too.

I think they should have a truck offering a free 6-pack for showing a photo id. Then take them to the polls.

This battle must be won in the next 2 to 6 years nationally. The only chance the Socialist Dems have is a faulty system that allows for massive cheating.

I can’t do anything without ID. Not even make a purchase so why can’t these commie losers provide ID they already have?

Right, watch the mutts get back into the free ride ACORN van and be driven to another polling place to try to cast a fraudulent vote. Voter ID = ballot integrity.

The quickest and easiest way to put and end to the photo ID in order to vote BS is to require a photo ID for the purpose of acquiring any kind of government assistance such as food stamps, SSI, WIC, Section 8 Housing, unemployment compensation, unearned income, and etc, etc and so on. They would all have a photo ID. You could bet the ranch on it. The solution is so simple. Why do I have to do all the heavy lifting?

Maybe we can start tracking voters who are confronted outside of polling places by armed members of the Black Panthers.

There are 26% more registered voters in Milwaukee than the US Census count of people over the age of 18.

Most major cities are riddled with fraud.

Photograph each person who says they were disenfranchised and get the plate number of the car they leave in.
