Rejecting the Keystone pipeline is an act of insanity
Washington Post ^ | 1/19/2012 | By Robert J. Samuelson

President Obama’s rejection of the Keystone XL pipeline from Canada to the Gulf of Mexico is an act of national insanity. It isn’t often that a president makes a decision that has no redeeming virtues and — beyond the symbolism — won’t even advance the goals of the groups that demanded it. All it tells us is that Obama is so obsessed with his reelection that, through some sort of political calculus, he believes that placating his environmental supporters will improve his chances.

Aside from the political and public relations victory, environmentalists won’t get much. Stopping the pipeline won’t halt the development of tar sands, to which the Canadian government is committed; therefore, there will be little effect on global-warming emissions. Indeed, Obama’s decision might add to them. If Canada builds a pipeline from Alberta to the Pacific for export to Asia, moving all that oil across the ocean by tanker will create extra emissions. There will also be the risk of added spills.

Now consider how Obama’s decision hurts the United States. For starters, it insults and antagonizes a strong ally; getting future Canadian cooperation on other issues will be harder. Next, it threatens a large source of relatively secure oil that, combined with new discoveries in the United States, could reduce (though not eliminate) our dependence on insecure foreign oil.

from the washington post????

That said, the best lens I have found to understand obama’s policy decisions is to expect that he will do what will most hard the interests of the united states, when possible.

It is not insane. Obama is simply the man who despises America and wants to "fundamentally change" it. This is part of that "change."

We have the chance in 2012 to whole sale reject and I pray the American people will remember and do so.

It’s not an act of insanity of your intention is to destroy the enemy, and in this case the enemy of hussein’s is the U.S.A. This is just another step toward that goal.

No. It’s a cold, sober, considered, calculated act of sabotage and treason.

It’s not insane if your main goal is to destroy the USA, and I believe that is Obama’s main goal.

But, it’s certainly not good for the rest of us!

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
January 19, 2012

Contact: ACF Press Office
(202) 401-9215

HHS releases more than $863 million to help low-income households with energy costs stay safe and healthy

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) is releasing more than $863 million today to grantees to help low-income households with their heating and other home energy costs under the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP). HHS is releasing the remaining funds, made available by the Consolidated Appropriation Act, 2012 (Public Law 112-74), to states, territories, tribes and the District of Columbia.

“This support is critical for families needing assistance to pay their home energy costs,” said George Sheldon, HHS acting assistant secretary for children and families. “We are releasing these funds today to help ease the burden for those vulnerable families and aid them in getting through the remaining winter months and the summer months ahead.”

LIHEAP assists low-income households, including families with children and seniors, with their home energy needs such as heating in the winter, cooling in the summer, and insulating their homes to make them more energy-efficient and to reduce their energy costs. The $863 million in regular block grant funds released today is in addition to the $2.6 billion released since October 2011. Including funds released today, grantees will receive a total of $3.4 billion in LIHEAP block funds for Fiscal Year 2012.

“Many Americans make difficult decisions whether it’s paying for rent, food and heating costs, which can add a real strain on families,” said Jeannie Chaffin, director for the Office of Community Services. “We are releasing these funds today to help as many families as possible get through this winter season safe and warm.”

For a complete list of additional funds available to grantees today please visit: http://www.acf.hhs.gov/news/press/2012/FY2012LIHEAP_GrossAlloc.html.

Individuals interested in applying for energy assistance should contact their local/state LIHEAP agency. For more information, go to: http://www.acf.hhs.gov/programs/ocs/liheap or http://www.acf.hhs.gov/programs/ocs/liheap/brochure/brochure.html.

I’ve heard the Dems try to spin this:

It’s a minor delay until it’s further investigated... (it’s been 3 years!).

It’s not as big as the GOP would have you believe... (700k barrels a day, and 18,000 jobs, guess again).

If gas goes up to $4-$5/gal this summer as predicted, it will hurt Obama. But is the stupid party smart enough to actually use it? My guess on that is they’ll find a stunning way to screw it up.

Imagine how much he and Mooch will hate the people of this country when they lose and are sent packing with the worst record in US history. It will be up to us to change the foundation of schools, colleges and the media so that history is not soon repeated and the truth of his “service” is at least documented truthfully in history.

The oil will have to be shipped to the west coast. Which means railroad.

Oops, what a coincidence, the railroad that will ship the oil has recently been bought by Warren Buffet.

crickets.....

This isn’t about pleasing environmentalists.

Remember, the Obama administration has “invested” our money in alternative fuels-solar, wind, and bio-fuels. Obama really believes these “investments” will work, but only if fossil fuel production is restricted at every turn.

He has to nix the pipeline, or give up on alternative fuels.

As we have seen with Solyndra, there’s also a quid-pro-quo going on, filling his coffers for reelection.
