South Carolina PPP Poll - Gingrich 34%, Romney 28%
PPP ^ | Jan. 19th, 2012 | PPP

Posted on 01/19/2012 10:22:31 AM PST by Eurotwit

Raleigh, N.C. – Newt Gingrich led Mitt Romney 34-28 in PPP's South Carolina polling last night, the first of what will be three nights of tracking. Ron Paul at 15%, Rick Santorum at 14%, Rick Perry at 5%, and Buddy Roemer at 3% round out the field. This is not a case of Romney imploding. His support has been pretty steady in the 28- 30% range in our South Carolina polling so far. But Gingrich has risen from 23% to 34% over the last two weeks, benefiting from declining support for Santorum and also from undecided voters moving into his camp. It's clear that the debate Monday night did a lot to help Gingrich's prospects in the state. 56% of voters say they watched it, and with those folks Gingrich's lead over Romney is 43-27. Romney still has a 29-22 advantage on Gingrich with those who didn't tune in. Gingrich is starting to consolidate his support with some of the more conservative parts of the South Carolina electorate. He has a 50-18 advantage on Romney with Tea Party voters. He's up 39-23 with those describing themselves as 'very conservative.' And he even has a 37-20 advantage with evangelicals.

That news about that interview was broken today, wasn’t it?

So if would have no impact on these polls. The same with Perry’s decision to drop out and endorse Gingrich.

The debate really seems to have made a huge impact.

Certainly, the next few days will be interesting and pivotal for the race.

Seems like I might have to stay up tonight and watch the debate.

Thats only if our people “Conservatives” allow the media to scare us away from Newt and pick our next Rino loser. They can all piss off and we need to send our voice and most importantly dollars to the candidate who will squish the establishment.

I’m with Newt warts and all.

The news od the ABC smear interview with the bitter ex-wife hit the news yesterday evening around 6 pm.

Actually, if that marriage was already, pretty much over -— There might well have been compassionate reasons such as support or income or insurance matters which would have made the idea of continuation of that marriage, on paper, for civil law purposes, not that bad an idea.

On the moral questions? I am guessing that God has forgiven Gingrich.

Some posters, here, seem to think that their own opinions are more important than God's.

It certainly doesn’t mean nothing, though the ABC interview is a wildcard that has been introduced for sure.

On the flipside there is the possible Perry effect with his endorsement that has not been captured either.

The same goes of course for tonight’s crucial debate.

We need to remember...this Marianne garbage is obviously a hit piece on Newt by the media to try and secure Romney’s nomination. Exes are often bitter and can say and make up a whole lot of malarkey. Don’t let them win, people, please.

If true, it looks like Newt might be pulling away from Romney.

Is SC winner-take-all or proportional?

People let go with failed sexual harassment suits are bitter as well. That didn’t stop people from dumping on Cain.

Alright, thanks.

Some of the effect might already be captured in this and the Rasmussen polls.

It doesn’t seem to be any actual “news” in the interview, but an emotional tv-interview might still have an impact. Knowing the media, they will probably be running with the interview and its aftermath until the polls close.

The debate tonight might be crucial for Newt to limit the damage and influence the media’s talking points.

Actually, was listening to the transcript. SHE said he asked for wanted an “open marriage” when he really only asked if it were to be ok if he kept a mistress.

Big difference. Open marriage means — can I do it with whomever I want.

Anyway, it’s over. Newt chose a different woman and stuck with her, so who am I to judge. How do I know how Marianne was treating Newt at the time ...maybe their marriage was just a total sham and Newt needed love in his life. I know the feeling of how that can be. Newt succumbed to temptation .... not unlike a lot of people do.

The polls HAVE to come in line with the truth or they will be showing their true bias colors.

If you add Perry’s 6% to Newt it will put in up to nearly 40%!

I was watching FOX Just a minute ago and heard Megan say “this interview seems to tell you more about the ex-wife then it does Newt Gingrich.”

WOW! That is right! That is what she said.
