Will Ron Paul Pick Up Many Of Rick Perry's Voters?
The Christian Science Monitor ^ | January 19, 2012 | Peter Grier

Will Ron Paul benefit from Rick Perry dropping out of the presidential race? There’s been lots of talk today about how Newt Gingrich might pick up voters from the Perry campaign’s demise, but less about how it might affect the libertarian from Texas, who – it must be noted – is now one of only four major candidates left in the race.

Congressman Paul himself joked about picking up Perry supporters Thursday morning. Asked for his reaction to the Perry news by a CBS News reporter, Paul said, “I’m glad, I’ll have all his votes!” Then he laughed. Clearly, he was kidding.

“If somebody else likes a Texan maybe [they’ll] come to me,” Paul continued, then kept moving along shaking hands with supporters.

Strictly speaking, Paul certainly will benefit from Mr. Perry pulling out. Mr. Gingrich won’t get all of Perry’s support. Paul, Mitt Romney and Rick Santorum will all pick up a share.

I cannot understand why Christian Science has survived but the paper is actually sort of interesting as long as you read it knowing there is falsehood in the Christian Scientology

Paul is my congressman, 14th dist TX. People in TX that voted for Perry against the Libertarian/Paul candidate won't switch to Paul just because he's a Texan. I wouldn't mind seeing Paul as Secretary of the Treasury though. I'm just hoping the next “republican” candidate for the 14th is really a republican and not a libertarian crony of Paul's. Not that I'm all that against libertarianism as a philosophy. Just the characters in the Libertarian party are, well characters.

Tax returns? I’d rather see a mental health report.

If Perry had enough voters to matter he would still be in the race.

I am amazed how naive most writers are about endorsements. There’s no thinking on the part of Perry or Newt that Perry’s endorsement is going to magically translate each Perry supporter to Newt. It’s not about that.

It’s about timing, and this was perfect.
It’s about momentum, and with that, Perry’s kind words might impact undecideds, left over Bachmann folks, or squishy Santorum voters who were debating whether or not to switch to Newt.

Further, it could harden support from squishy Newt voters who also liked Perry.

In other words, it is sheer shallow lazy thinking to contemplate this in terms of “the Perry 5%” or whatever. The impact might be much greater, or much less, than that 5% when it’s all said and done.

The premise is stupid. Why would people who support a reasoned person go to a member of the lunatic party.

Now this is like asking ‘Will it snow tomorrow in hell?’. Sometimes I just think some ‘journalists’ are simpletons and whether that is the case or not they certainly thing most of us are. Ok Paul and Perry are both elected officials from Texas and both served in the military. They share some of the same ideas on the size of govt but I don’t know ONE Perry supporter for who Paul would be their first choice now that Perry has dropped out and I know many of them some of them who were a part of the campaign from the beginning. I’m sure there may be a few just like I’m sure that some John Huntsman supporters went to Newt and Santorum. Some voters are eclectic and when talking with real voters sometimes its a ‘Dear God experience’ similar to the shows where a camera is shoved into a passer by’s face and they offer their humble ‘reasoning’ for supporting a candidate and you realize that all the well thought out reasons and arguments for supporting such and such that political gurus dwell over are like a fly in a hurricane for many voters.
