Will Ron Paul Pick Up Many Of Rick Perry's Voters?

Will Ron Paul benefit from Rick Perry dropping out of the presidential race? There’s been lots of talk today about how Newt Gingrich might pick up voters from the Perry campaign’s demise, but less about how it might affect the libertarian from Texas, who – it must be noted – is now one of only four major candidates left in the race.

Congressman Paul himself joked about picking up Perry supporters Thursday morning. Asked for his reaction to the Perry news by a CBS News reporter, Paul said, “I’m glad, I’ll have all his votes!” Then he laughed. Clearly, he was kidding.

“If somebody else likes a Texan maybe [they’ll] come to me,” Paul continued, then kept moving along shaking hands with supporters.

Strictly speaking, Paul certainly will benefit from Mr. Perry pulling out. Mr. Gingrich won’t get all of Perry’s support. Paul, Mitt Romney and Rick Santorum will all pick up a share.

I don't think many Rick Perry supporters were 9/11 truthers so the answer in no.

Some, maybe those who must support a fellow Texan, feel they cannot support a candidate with a less than stellar personal history, consider the other three remaining not Libertarian-Conservative enough and/or too infected with Washington Beltway and Wall Street thinking and money. But probably not more than a small portion of the Perry supporters who have held on to his candidacy to the very end. The rest jumped ship in one direction or another long ago. The immediate endorsement of Gingrich was probably at least somewhat persuasive with such bitter enders.

If I had to bet I’d bet Newt gets the lion’s share of Perry’s votes on Sat.

Not this one. Yes, Governor Perry was my guy. I believed that he was the most qualified and conservative candidate in the race. I will continue to follow Governor Perry in my support of the man he wisely endorsed, Newt Gingrich.

With Perry gone, that leaves only 3 candidates who have had only one wife and has (as far as we know) been faithful to that one wife.

Yes. Unfortunately, one of them is a spastic, anti-Semitic, Muslim-loving, 9-11 truther lunatic. Yet another is an oily, phony, dishonest, homosexual-pandering, Planned-Parenthood-donating-abortion-enabling liberal. So those two are out of the running.

So we have left a reasoned guy who has made huge mistakes and asked for forgiven and stated he is a repentant man but married a third time.
Another who is a muslim lover, 9/11 truther, racist, anti-Semite but married once.
Another who is a pro-homosexual agenda, pro-abortion, anti-gun guy but married once (unless you count the celestial marriages in his “temple”, then he would be a polygamist.)
The another guy who seems to be a perfectly nice fellow with reasoned thoughts and married once but hasn’t won anything in years, and was unable to to keep his senate seat.
Got it.

P.S.

-Ron Paul says he will NOT accept his congressional pension.
-He gives back a large portion of his current congressional pay to the Treasury each year.
Recently it was $70,000 that he gave back.
-He is the only one who says that if, elected he’ll only accept presidential pay of around $39,000 per year - the average for an American worker - not the $400,000+ per year salary currently paid presidents.

I’m not deeply knowledgeable about Catholic repentance but I know my Presbyterian preacher would have looked for someone to repent to both God and the injured. Don’t see Newt’s ego allowing the latter. Don’t get the sense Newt’s been successful with making apologies to his 2nd wife.

That is the only reasonable thing for him to do. Can you name one thing he has done to earn it?
The only thing I can think of that he has done for about the 30 years he has been in congress is blame America for everything he can think of.

Gratuitously insulting a candidate, with whom you may disagree on certain issues, neither refutes his arguments, nor does it advance the cause of any other candidate. All it does, is make it more difficult for Republicans to come together, after the Convention, to defeat Obama.
