I’ve heard that the fires were very severe with much damage. Is the worst over?

Presumably ashes from a woodstove. Not a problem here. I put them in a metal ash bucket and throw them out in the snow.

A secondary cause of this fire, I would guess, is stupid environmental practices that leave dry brush all over the place. Once it catches fire, you have a disaster in the making.

You have a good memory, but I don’t live there anymore. So I don’t know, CF.

As a seasonal firefighter in a midwest state I once fought a fire for two days that was started by some guy who threw his woodstove ashes out into a dry field of grass.
Can you say: “Dumb Butt”!

Yeah. You have to adjust your practices to the place where you live. Not a problem most of the time here in Vermont, but not a good idea when things are dry and ready to burn.

So this fire was started by a dumb ash.

One of my relatives was a firefighter for the forestry department out here in So. Cal. He told us of one fire started near Palm Springs where an idiot was mowing his yard in 100 degree plus weather in extremely dry conditions when he struck a rock which sparked and voila - brush fire.

“stupid environmental practices that leave dry brush all over the place.”

Last year I did some consulting for a lawsuit against a large AZ subdivision HOA that has a restriction in the covenants which prohibit homeowners from clearing native vegetation from their lots.
