Delusional...NewtBots like Jim Jones subjects on KoolAid...[and another one bytes the zot]

What is it about this primary season that causes Republicans to go around the bend? The current beneficiary of the “anyone but Romney” mania is Newt Gingrich, who may actually win the South Carolina primary tomorrow. I find that astonishing. Gingrich has been mostly out of the public view since he retired from Congress 13 years ago. The most surprising feature of this endlessly surprising political year is that, at age 68, Gingrich has made a comeback.

It is hard to make clear-cut statements about the mercurial and often contradictory Gingrich, but one thing we can say with absolute certainty: he will never be President of the United States. Put aside the fact that he lasted only four years as Speaker of the House before resigning in disgrace, leaving Congress with an approval rating around 15%. Forget that he was the father of the earmark. Never mind his notorious lack of self-control and his attacks on free enterprise. Those are all worthy topics for another day, but for the moment let’s just focus on the allegations by Newt’s second ex-wife that hit the press this week. Apart from all the other good reasons why Gingrich will never be President, Marianne Gingrich’s sensational allegations snuffed out any possible hope that Newt can beat Barack Obama in 2012.

I agree with you. If anything, I was thinking FR would support Santorum, who is a good man and has good ideas, but, imho, is not quite ready for this type of position.

Oh, and personally, I like Romney. Of the four candidates left, I believe Romney has the best shot at beating Obama - by far.

I saw that, too. Sorry, but I’d take a 70 year old leader over a 40 year old leader, if all other things (like ideology, etc) are equal anyday. The 70 year old has had 2x as much time to deal with issues, and likely 10x the wisdom. Now, that being said, age doesn’t bring wisdom. But age generally brings experience, which in turn brings wisdom if that’s what you seek after. That having been said, I’ll take a 10 year old who loves wisdom over an 80 year old who sticks their head in the sand. But in general, age is a plus, not a hinderance, IMHO.

The current crop of liars and double dealers who make up our professional politicians are the problem not Christian moms like me. My prayers do more for this country than any of these politicians with their lies, I can guarantee you that.

If that's how you feel, then LEAVE! You don't want a solution, you want to whine and complaing like a spoiled little brat.

The candidates we have are what we have. Nobody chooses them for us, nobody allows or disallows someone to run in the primary.

Either select one of the candidates and get on board or get the hell out of here.

Just as we are trying to rally around someone and charge the hill with courage and steel, you are running around saying "we can't win, its all fixed, our leaders suck."

Grow up!

AND

Speaker Gingrich who led Republicans to: * Voting on each of the Contract with America items * Four consecutive balanced budgets * Over $400 billion of debt paid off * Major welfare reform accomplished * 11 million new jobs for America * Unemployment falling to under 4%.

Interesting “Christin mom” YET you refuse to accept that Gingrich is a repentant man and continue to judge him.
Gingrich says he is a repentant man, as a Christian you should believe him.
You have know idea what has happened in private between all parties, all you can do is view his life since he became a repentant man - that you can judge.

Romneybots have been refuted continuously since 2006, they should have already learned the facts.

We both supported the same candidate until he dropped out and endorsed Newt. I defended him with facts based on his record.

Nobody can honestly defend Mutt Romney on his record and claim to be anything but a flaming liberal.

“But I also struggled to comprehend the Palin devotion.”

I can only cite my own personal reasons for [still wanting] Sarah Palin and they are these:

#1 There was no doubting Sarah’s conservatism. Period. End of story.

#2 Outsider status. It was (and still is) obvious that Sarah was not part of/beholden to any “machine”/party. Sarah Palin is an Independent individual who happened to be running as a Republican and not a Republican who was trying to pass herself off as somewhat independent (in her thinking).

#3 Constitutional orientation. Whenever she speaks, she speaks of founding principles. From what I see of our present and come to understand about our past, I believe the founders had it right and we (contemporary America) have it wrong. Unless we get back to these original intents when it comes to the approach to governance, we are doomed. The candidate who, in any way veers from this message must be scrutinized to the Nth degreee as their held beliefs might well be a swapping out of one kind of tyranny in exchange for another.

I have listened again and again to the arguments about “experience” when it comes to politics and I have come to believe that political experience is as much a hinderance as it is a help. The rap on Sarah was her inexperience. I considered this an asset. She was not “connected”, not bought and paid for.

After Dole...Bush...McCain...and, now, possibly Romney...a conservative has got to ask...HAS GOT TO ASK...what is going on here? Where are these folks coming from? How are these folks rising to such positions of prominence (or, how is it that at critical moments (going up against a Clinton 2nd term/going up against an Obama with economic disaster looming in our near future) how is it that moderates (who happen to be well-well-well connected to all the apparatus of power (who have been pulling the switches for some time, in fact)...how is it these are the candidates foisted on us? Has the Moderate position proven itself to be such a success? For example, when it comes to social spending, has Moderation helped us to rein in spending or the scope and reach of government (when the talk about cuts, they are talking about a decrease on the increase!)?

In my view, party politics has become as much an enemy to America as any “-ism” out there. So, along comes Sarah Palin...and...well...you know...

If He keeps just half of your 15 points, it will
turn this country around.

One thing about the “G”man, when he came up with the
contract with America, he did everything he could
to make it come true. That’s good enough for me.

At least with him, when the media attacks, he will
counter and call them on it.

Romney? Too much like Obama lite, and he’s mormon
which to me is too close to being Raelian, a hundred
year old cult that’s all. No thanks.

Marianne Gingrich is not going away. She has a huge axe to grind and she’s going to just keep grinding it to the delight of the DBM. A constant sideshow of this type will overshadow Newt’s message.

Marianne Gingrich is through. She has fired her only shot, she's a one-trick pony. The wronged woman - HA! She was messing around with Newt while he was still married to his first wife. She had just ended an affair with a married father of three children.

She has been proven to be bitter, angry, vindictive, and perhaps a little unhinged. She's no better than the bimbos who torpedoed Herman Cain. Her allegations against Newt are just that, allegations. Why are her assertions being accepted as gospel by the lamestream media? Because it fits their agenda - to destroy Newt, and get Romney the nomination.

Newt sold out to the global warming ethanol whores.

Newt sold out to the Freddie Mac mortgage fraud whores.

Newt stands 0 chance of ever getting elected.

I am NOT a ROMNEY supporter, I am just pointing out the utter hyprocrisy of the ‘moralists’ FReepers who gave Cain a pass on his transgressions and now are doing the same with Newt.

I support none of the above right now and hope nobody drops out. Newt can’t win, Romney can’t win the nomination, Santorum lost his own state by 18 pts in his last election, and Paul is unelectable due to his foreign policy views.

Newt is not a conservative, and if you read the article it points out many cases where he strayed from conservative positions.

These ARE Newt's issues! And I have also been a Freeper for well over a decade. I was there in the 90's, I remember what Newt did and what happened. I made a reasoned, rational decision to back Newt Gingrich. You disagree, fine. I'm sorry that you made yourself into kitty fodder over it.

Granted it’s probably one of the most important primaries I’ve ever witnessed, but people are SUPPOSED to disagree about who will best carry the conservative torch.

True, but these threads/comments are nothing but whiny nonsense. "No, not Newt, he sucks, he's been divorced, I don't like him, nooooo, he's got baggage."

OK, then, instead of your bitching and moaning, who's your candidate and why is he better? I'm completely uninterested in "this guy sucks." What I am interested in is "this guy is better because...."

I know I'll be waiting a while for that, though. The former just takes a keyboard and some time, while the latter takes actual thought.

Yep, I’d think Santorum should be talking around these opponents by addressing them briefly, and then differentiating himself from the Democrat in a more direct, dramatic way, and it may be that he is being cheated of his time at the debates, but he’ll have to play catch-up real fast because it’s kinda obvious the folks out here seem to want a more aggressive tone and aren’t getting one.

Many people rally to Newt for the same reason they rallied to Sarah. They are both fighters.

That's true. McCain was also a fighter though...but only when it came to fighting against fellow Republicans. I suspect Romney would be the same. What we are hungering for is someone on our side who is willing to take on both the media and Obama. That is the mistake that Bachmann and Santorum have made. We don't want to see them attacking the one guy who is attacking our enemies, we want to find out if they'd also be willing and able to stand strong against our foes instead of playing nice with them as so many other Republicans have tried to do (Bush, McCain, etc).

Romneybots have been refuted continuously since 2006, they should have already learned the facts.

I think the Mittbotts that remain on FR had a plan - lay fairly low, taking potshots at the other candidates not named Romney, making the occasional mild defense of Romney, until he was the overwhelming favorite to win the nomination. Then they would start making posts about party unity and the need to defeat Obama.

Newt spoiled that little plan. So now they are coming out in a full-fledged assault against Newt. They don't have much choice, because Romney is on the brink of an epic fail.

Perry did the conservative movement a huge favor by dropping out and endorsing Newt. It drove home the importance of rallying around one conservative instead of continuing to split the vote and allowing Romney to win primaries with a plurality. Now conservatives have to continue to build that momentum. Newt has actual major conservative achievements on his resume. Mitt has none. It's that stark of a choice.

You, apparently, think instead we need Romney. Do you have ANY IDEA how badly Romney will play come October? He will not energize the base. He will be painted as being on the side of Wall Street instead of Main Street. And this election will be about Main Street.

Marital history is the only thing Mitt has over Newt. Hence the harping on Marianne's charges by the closet Romneybots on FR.

Meanwhile, Newt has released his taxes. Mitt refuses to until April, when he was planning to have the nomination in hand. What does it say about Mitt that he refuses to release that information until we would be stuck with him? Smoke that, Hindracker.

3) Actively protect America against Isalmic Jihad

4) Prayer in the Public Schools — RETURNED
5) Liberal (Activist) Federal Judges REMOVED

6) Business Corporate Tax Rate LOWERED to 12-percent
7) Individuals to have FLAT-TAX option at 15-percent

8) Promote U.S. Energy Independence — DOMESTICALLY

9) Build EFFECTIVE U.S. Border Protection by 2015
10) Illegal Immigrants (especially violent gangs) DEPORTED
11) “English” established as the ONLY official language of the U.S. Government

12) U.S. Military “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” ... RE-INSTATED
13) U.S. Military weapon design-procurement cycle reformed

14) Democratic “Dodd-Frank” Legislation REPEALED
15) Democratic “Sarbanes-Oxley” Legislation REPEALED

Great ideas the only problem is Newt was in bed with the global warming ethanol whores so does his energy plan include continuing that form of crony capitalism?

Removing liberal judges...wonderful idea, but completely UNCONSTITUTIONAL. Or doesn’t the Constitution matter unless Obama is in the White House?

It also occurs to me that a lot of your other great ideas take action by Congress. Or do you want Newt to act unilaterally through executive action like Obama is?

Dear milwguy,

So a guy who has a few affairs, gets divorced a couple of times, and clearly behaved poorly in his private life is less moral than someone who, in his private life, seems to live exemplarily, but who in his public life promoted the murder of unborn babies from the 1970s (his admission) to at least 2005, who made sure that his own DeathCare law guaranteed cheap and easy abortions, who shares every bit of the guilt of every single one of over 50 million abortions committed for the past 39 years?

Sorry, I'll go with the serial adulterer over the serial mass murderer.

I'm just funny that way.
