"Since we go back that far, you must be familiar with Pat Frank’s “Alas Babylon” and the survival manual he wrote later."

Alas Babylon was the first novel (non school related) that I bought. I think that I paid $0.25 for the paperback. I later read his "Forbidden Area", and I was hooked on reading for life. Recently came across a reprint of Alas, and bought it and reread it. I was never aware of the survival manual, might look for it.

“Alas Babylon” may not have been the first postatomic novel but it is certainly the best known. cxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxgy(my cat just walked across the keyboard LOL)

That the setting is rural Florida panhandle rather than the major cities (which get nuked in the novel) has always fascinated me or when a car’s resale value is based on how much gas is left in the tank. JMO but a lot of the early survival manuals were basically fur-fish-game books about survival in the wilderness rather than how to survive in the midst of societal breakdown.

Pat Frank also recommended buying bricks of .22 ammo to be used for barter. Lately some of those posting on this topic say they are stocking up on cases of vodka pints for the same purpose.

The spot price of gold has fallen somewhat so that’s a good sign I guess but ammo & gun sales are still through the roof. Not related, but U.S. citizens are well armed compared to anywhere else so we won’t see the Islamic jihadis take over at least not without heavy infidel-related casualties.

Best to be prepared.
